Abstract

This research is motivated by the researchers' concern about children,  especially adolescents with autism. Autism is not a mental illness but it is a disorder that affects  the brain, causing it to not function properly. This can be seen in the behavior of children with autism. The purpose of this research is  to find out the experiences of parents of  children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder. This research uses a qualitative research design with a research approach to phenomenology. The result of this research showed that sex knowledge of children with autism spectrum disorder is still limited to  knowledge of differences between male and female sexes. They obtained sexual knowledge education from schools, while some received it from teachers, therapists, and parents. The level of independence is high. Sexual prohibition is important to give children the knowhow to maintain behavior towards the opposite sex. To improve the sexual health education of parents who have children with autism spectrum disorder, they can attend sexual education seminars.

Abstract

This study discusses the use of digital media and the public’s access to information in the fields of education and politics in Pangandaran Regency, West Java. In regards to assumptions of the Social Constructionism Theory (SCOT), people’s understandings about the presence of technology in their life    depend on how they interpret and treat the technology. As to the assumptions related to the public sphere, the potential for digital media to serve as a public sphere could also be questioned. This research uses a case study conducted by applying several data collection techniques, namely; in-depth interviews, observation and documentation studies. This study found that the high use of digital media in Pangandaran is not only the result of easy access but also people's perspectives of technology. Digital media can be an alternative to find educational information.  However, there is still a lack of information which is needed very much by the public about educational scholarships and studies at universities.  Meanwhile, political information is limited due to a lack of effort to disseminate government programs that are directly related to or will directly benefit the public. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that digital media has the potential to become a public sphere with a very limited function, namely a sphere where public interests can be discussed and citizens’ awareness of and participation in education and politics can be increased. In addition, the use of digital media can only be increased if there is awareness among individuals or institutions to utilize digital media so that the quality of digital literacy and political will possessed by all parties including the public, government and members of the Pangandaran Regency Regional House of Representatives will improve accordingly.

Abstract

An important theme of science communication research is research on science article writers. However, not many scholars are interested in doing this research. Based on this fact, we conducted a research on the ideal position of a science article writer. It  turns out that he definition of science writer has changed in Indonesia. Quantitative content analysis of articles reported by The Conversation Indonesia during December 2021 found that the writerss motivated the public to understand and use scientific principles to meet their daily needs. The results of in-depth interviews with three prominent professors at Universitas Gadjah Mada confirm the same fact. They do not just tell the object of research in a certain context. This fact certainly needs to be imitated by other science writers. However, there is a basic recipe that must be practiced by other science writers. The practice of the recipe will make them autonomous and responsible to society. Thus, the article will explain the ways that can be taken to make it happen.

Abstract

Bunga Bondar Village has a unique culture called Marjambar. Marjambar is held   by distributing pastries typical of the local community during religious holidays, which are ahead of Eid al-Fitr for Muslims and one day before New Year for Christians. This study aims to analyze the multiculturalism model that exists in marjambar. This study  uses Mead's symbolic interaction theory. The research method of this study is  a qualitative descriptive approach, while data collection technique is conducted through  observation, interviews and documentation.  A total of eight research informants were interviewed, comprising two Islamic religious leaders, two Christian religious leaders, one traditional leader, one youth leader, two village apparatuses. This research found that in realizing the values of multiculturalism there is a philosophy of life "thick water is thicker, brotherly relations and we are one blood (alkot aek alkotan dope mudar dan hita dongan samudar). The implementation of marjambar local wisdom reflects the value of cosmopolitan multiculturalism in  which  each individual is  free with his cultural life, without intimidation and domination, thus creating an attitude of concern between people of  different faiths and  ethnic groups. In conclusion, intercultural life which exists side by side shows equality between people. The researcher suggests that local governments through schools provide formal and informal education to educators who stay at the forefront of the effort to disseminate local wisdom among students. It is necessary to provide bailout funds to preserve marjambar local wisdom, for example, for  monthly meetings between religious leaders, community leaders, traditional leaders and the community.

Abstract

There are many pornographic sites on social media nowadays. In 2018, The Indonesian Child Protection Commission found that 91.58% of 6,000 adolescents had been exposed to pornography. Adolescents are those   in the age group that is very vulnerable to the effects of pornography. This study aims to identify and examine urban adolescents’ reception of pornography on social media. The selection of urban adolescents as research objects was because they have easier access to social media than other age groups. The sample of this research was taken from adolescents in DKI Jakarta and Surabaya considering that these two cities are among the six cities with the highest number of adolescents in Indonesia. This study uses the reception theory presented by Stuart Hall who suggests that audiences can play an active role in decoding messages. In addition, this study employs a constructivist paradigm with a qualitative approach. The method used was the reception analysis which focuses on production, text, and audience in a framework that can be utilized to analyze the relationship of each element. The informants in this study were adolescents in DKI Jakarta and Surabaya who were aged between 15 and 19 years. Informants' preference was conducted purposively by considering variations based on social and cultural context backgrounds. The results showed that all the informants had watched pornography on social media, either intentionally or not. In addition, four out of ten informants are in an Oppositional Position for rejecting messages conveyed in pornographic broadcasts on social media. Meanwhile, six other adolescents are in a Negotiated Position, where they disagree with pornography on social media but can accept the meaning of pornography because it satisfies their curiosity.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out and explain the forms of communication that are considered effective and efficient by the Bengkulu regional government in the context of overcoming the impact of losses due to this specific disaster. This research uses a post-positivistic paradigm with a case study research method to find out and evaluate the role of the Bengkulu Regional Government in reducing the impact of losses due to disasters. Data collection will be carried out through interviews and FGDs. The results of the study show that disaster communication in reducing the impact of regional losses is carried out effectively through four aspects, namely: (1) Customer Focus, through efforts to build disaster-related information needed by the community through a flow mechanism for delivering disaster information, starting from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) info to the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) and passed on to emergency operation center  (Pusdalops) and the media; (2) Leadership Commitment, through the efforts of leaders who are enthusiastic enough to lead disaster resolution in accordance with their main tasks and functions of disasters. In addition, BPBD Leadership elements always go directly to disaster-affected areas; (3) Situational Awareness, through effective communication based on disaster research conducted   independently to  the results of handling and regional operations (disaster exposure area); (4) Media Partnership, through the involvement of the media in the form of collaborative disaster management such as with state-owned radio station RRI Bengkulu, in addition to using social media accounts such as Instagram and holding press conferences during disasters.
