Abstract

Parkinson’s disease is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases. The motor system is eventually damaged which affects the voluntary movements in a patient. It leads to the death of vital nerve cells in the brain. Women have lesser prevalence due to the hormone called Estrogen which has been playing a significant role in human body. Most of the treatments focus on the balance of Dopamine in the brain which is done with the help of levodopa but the side effects seen in the patients were mild nausea, loss of appetite, heart burn, diarrhea, and many more. The cause of the disease is still unknown but its occurrence is mainly because of genetic and environmental factors. This review focuses on the combination therapy of levodopa and Carbidopa to treat the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

Abstract

Plastic is a broad name given to different polymers with high molecular weight, which can be degraded by various processes. However, considering their abundance in the environment and their specificity in attacking plastics, biodegradation of plastics by microorganisms and enzymes seems to be the most effective process. When plastics are used as substrates for microorganisms, evaluation of their biodegradability should not only be based on their chemical structure, but also on their physical properties (melting point, glass transition temperature, crystallinity, storage modulus etc.). In this review, microbial and enzymatic biodegradation of plastics and some factors that affect their biodegradability are discussed. Plastics have become an important part of modern life and are used in different sectors of applications like packaging, building materials, consumer products and much more. Each year about 100 million tons of plastics are produced worldwide. Degradation is defined as reduction in the molecular weight of the polymer. The Degradation types are (a). Chain end degradation/de-polymerization (b).Random degradation/reverse of the poly condensation process. Biodegradation is defined as reduction in the molecular weight by naturally occurring microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and actinomycetes. That is involved in the degradation of both natural and synthetic plastics.

Abstract

This research revealed that the numbers of available heterocyclic compounds are mainly focused on nitrogen containing compounds, such as quinazolines, indoles, benzimidazole, quinoxalines, coumarins and pyrimidines etc. A mixture of substituted aldehydes (0.01 mol) like acetyl acetone (method 1) or ethyl acetoacetate (method 2), urea or thiourea (0.01 mol) and lemon juice (0.5 ml) were taken into a round bottom flask and reflux for 1 hour at 800C under continuous stirring. After completion of the reaction the final product was recrystalized for purification. Simultaneously toxicity and anti-inflammatory activity were performed. But in case of using ethyl acetoacetate in method 2, the percentage yield was more as compare to using of acetyl acetone in method 1. So the derivatives obtained from method 2 were selected for further toxicity and anti- inflammatory activities.

Abstract

Purpose: Natural remedies from medicinal plants are considered to be effective and safe alternative treatments for diabetes mellitus. Diodia sarmentosa (Rubiaceae) commonly called tropical button weed, has been used locally in the treatment of diabetes. This study demonstrates the hypoglycaemic and anti-diabetic activity of the aqueous ethanol extract and ethylacetate fractions of Diodia sarmentosa in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Methods: 1000g of the leaves (air dried at 250C for 7days) was subjected to extraction using 80% aqueous ethanol and then fractionated with ethylacetate. This gave a percentage yield of 13.299%w/w, 28.30%w/w, and 11.62%w/w for aqueous ethanol extract, ethylacetate soluble and insoluble fraction respectively. Three doses (1000mg/kg, 500mg/kg and 250mg/kg body weight) of the three samples were administered to the test groups while Glibenclamide at dose of 2.5mg/kg body weight was administered to the control group. Comparing the activity of the plant to the standard drug, the activity of all the doses of the aqueous ethanol extract and ethylacetate insoluble fraction was comparable with that of the standard drug (Glibenclamide). Result: As regard to the dose response, the highest activity resides in the highest dose of sample administered (i.e 1000mg/kg body weight) followed by the 500mg/kg and the 250mg/kg body weight (1000mg/kg>500mg/kg>250mg/kg). The aqueous ethanol and ethylacetate soluble fractions caused a significant (p>0.05) reduction in blood glucose of the diabetic rats. Conclusion: Thus, this present study validates the medicinal potential of Diodia sarmentosa in diabetes treatment

Abstract

The emergence of microbial contaminants in non-sterile drugs caused not only the degradation of many products, but also proved to be a potential risk to consumer health. The aim of this study was to test microbial load of non sterile solid pharmaceutical product and investigate the effects of different packaging system on microbial status of pharmaceutical product. A total of 18 sample of solid dosage form packaged in different packaging were procured from market. All samples have been tested for the presence of specific microorganisms, Total aerobic microbial counts (TAMC) and Total yeast and mold counts (TYMC) using compendial procedures. Out of 18 sample 72.22 % (n=13) had shown microbial growth and only 16 % (n=3) of samples were non-compliant. Sample containing herbal ingredients, were the most heavily contaminated, showing a bacterial load > 104 CFU/g. The result showed that all the tested samples were free from E. coli. There was no significant difference (p>0.05) in microbial load of product packaged in different primary packaging
