Abstract

Anemia in adolescence is one of the most common health problems worldwide, with an increasing prevalence. Anemia can cause psychomotor and cognitive disorders, affecting learning performance. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between anemia and learning performance among adolescent girls at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 in Gorontalo. This quantitative study employs a cross-sectional design. The subjects of this study were 120 adolescent girls, selected using the purposive sampling technique. Respondent characteristics included age; parental education, occupation, and income; as well as the respondent's pocket money. Data were obtained through interviews using a questionnaire, and anemia status was assessed through Hb tests using a digital hemoglobin test. Learning performance was assessed using the learning outcome report. Data analysis was conducted using a chi-square test and multivariate analysis with logistic regression. The results showed that the prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls was 8%. The analysis results indicated a significant relationship between anemia and learning performance (p-value = 0.013), with an odds ratio (OR) of 3.111, meaning that adolescent girls with anemia were at three times higher risk of having poorer learning performance compared to those without anemia. It can be concluded that anemia is associated with the learning performance of adolescent girls; thus, more care needs to be given to the health of adolescent girls in educational institutions.

Abstract

The number of elderly people in Indonesia is expected to increase from 26.83 million (9.92%) in 2020 to 63.32 million (19.9%) in 2045. Judging from the risk of disease that will be experienced by the elderly and its effect on the dependency ratio of the elderly population, then the government provides integrated healthcare center services for the elderly. The Kassi-Kassi Health Center has the highest number of elderly people in Makassar City, but an average of <70% indicates that the elderly are still less active in utilizing the posyandu. This study aims to analyze the determinants of the utilization of elderly integrated healthcare center services at the Kassi Kassi Health Center in Makassar City. The method used in this research is quantitative with a type of analytic survey and cross-sectional design. The research sample was 110 elderly people in the Kassi Kassi Health Center working area. Data were analyzed by Chi-square test. The results of the analysis showed that knowledge (p=0.000), healthcare beliefs (p=0.019), and illness perception (p=0.050) were related to the utilization of elderly integrated healthcare center services. Meanwhile, the availability of health facilities (p=0.186), distance (p=1.000), and waiting time (p=0.702) were not related to the utilization of elderly integrated healthcare center services. So it can be concluded that knowledge, beliefs, and perceptions of pain are related to the utilization of elderly integrated healthcare center services at the Kassi Kassi Health Center in Makassar City.

Abstract

Insulin resistance plays a crucial role in maternal metabolic adaptation during pregnancy. Underweight pregnant women have metabolic conditions potentially affecting insulin sensitivity and glucose homeostasis. The Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) quantitatively measures fasting glucose and insulin levels, providing insights into metabolic health during pregnancy. This study aims to determine the differences in HOMA-IR between underweight and normal-weight pregnant women. The research employs a case design with a quantitative approach, using non-probability sampling techniques including quota and purposive sampling. The total sample comprises 24 participants, divided into 12 underweight pregnant women and 12 normal-weight pregnant women. Statistical analysis shows significant differences between groups: glucose levels (p <0.001), insulin levels (p = 0.018), and HOMA-IR values (p <0.001), all indicating significant findings (p <0.05). The study found differences in glucose and insulin levels between the two groups. Insulin and glucose levels tended to be higher in underweight pregnant women, indicating insulin resistance involvement with higher HOMA-IR levels compared to normal-weight pregnant women. This study can serve as a basis for understanding the patho-mechanism in underweight pregnant women.

Abstract

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) has a global prevalence of 60%-90% among computer users where the total number of sufferers is estimated to reach > 60 million individuals per year and continues to appear one million new cases in the world. Based on the results of preliminary studies conducted on Computer Science students FMIPA ULM, it is known that the duration of computer use in a day for all respondents (100%) is >4 hours, this causes CVS sufferers among students to increase. The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation of eye visibility, duration of computer use, and length of rest to CVS complaints in students majoring in computer science. The study used a cross sectional quantitative design with a population of 193 students and a sample of 72 taken through proportional random sampling. The research instrument used a questionnaire adapted from previous research for the variables of duration of computer use, length of rest, and CVS complaints, while the eye visibility variable used a tape meter. The results of Chi-Square testing showed that there was a correlation between eye distance (p-value = 0.018), duration of computer use (p- value = 0.002), and duration of rest (p-value = 0.001) with CVS complaints. Students are advised to adjust their eye distance with a computer screen as far as 50-100cm, take a break for 10 minutes when working in front of a computer for 1 hour, and adjust work patterns so that they are not long in front of the computer.

Abstract

Diabetes (36.5%) is the second most common comorbidity suffered by COVID-19 patients after hypertension (49.8%) in Indonesia. COVID-19 patients with diabetes have a 52.1% higher risk of being hospitalized. This study aims to determine the effect of diabetes on the recovery time of COVID-19 patients since being admitted to the hospital. A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 339 confirmed RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 patients. The Cox Proportional Hazard regression test was used to analyze the relationship between diabetes and the length of recovery for COVID-19 patients. The survival probability for a COVID-19 patient without diabetes to recover from hospital stay for more than 12 days is 19.3% and 32.6% for diabetic patients. The median survival to recovery in patients without diabetes was 9 days (95% CI 8.56-9.44), whereas in patients with diabetes it was 10 days (95% CI 8.94-11.06). The average length of recovery needed for COVID-19 patients without diabetes was 13.13 days, and 20.38 days for COVID-19 patients with diabetes. Multivariate analysis showed no significant correlation between diabetes and recovery time with p-value = 0.302 (HR 1.216; 95% CI 0.839 – 1.762). COVID-19 patients with diabetes have a longer median recovery time than patients without diabetes. However, there is no significant relationship between diabetes and recovery time.
