Abstract

Seaweed is a biological resource that is rich in nutrients and bioactive compounds. This study aims to determine qualitatively and quantitatively the bioactive compounds (flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids/terpenoids, saponins and phenols) from extracts and fractions of Eucheuma cottonii. The method used is an experiment by conducting a series of experiments by extracting and fractionating E. cottonii and the data were analyzed descriptively. The treatments used were organic solvents with different polarity levels (methanol, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and butanol) for extraction and fractionation. Parameter analysis consisted of qualitative phytochemical tests (flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids/terpenoids, saponins and phenols) and quantitatively determined the total content of alkaloids, flavonoids, and saponins. The results of the phytochemical test of methanol extract qualitatively produced alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids/terpenoids, and saponins. The n-hexane fraction contains steroids/terpenoids and saponins. The ethyl acetate fraction contains alkaloids, flavonoids and steroids/terpenoids and the butanol fraction contains alkaloids. The results of quantitative analysis of the n-hexane extract fraction showed that the content of saponins was 0.23%, alkaloids and flavonoids were 0.16% and 0.09% in the ethyl acetate fraction, while the alkaloid content was 0.09% in the butanol fraction. Keywords: fractionation; organic solvent; phytocemical; quantitative

Abstract

Lobster is one of the commodities that have high economic value in the world market. Thus, the export opportunities for lobster commodities are still promising. One area that can produce lobster in Indonesia is Bontang, East Kalimantan. The area which is the sea waters is very potential for lobster rearing cultivation. This study was conducted with the aim of analyzing good water quality in lobster rearing cultivation in Bontang, East Kalimantan. The study used 3 floating net cages by taking water samples 4 times and 5 lobsters each sampling. Water quality samples include physics (color, smell and taste, temperature, brightness), chemistry (pH, DO, nitrite, salinity), biology (coliform), heavy metals (hg, pb, cu). Lobster samples were measured by weight. The results showed that Fsignificant > 0.05 so that the water quality parameters had no effect on growth. The cause of the ineffectiveness of water quality parameters is due to the contamination of waters in Bontang, East Kalimantan. Keywords: Bamboo Lobster; Contamination; Floating Net Cage; Heavy Metal.

Abstract

Smoking is the one of the efforts to maintain the quality of smoked fish. Phenol compounds in smoke can act as natural antioxidants to inhibit the lipid oxidation. Milkfish has a high lipid content after protein, that can undergo lipid oxidation during processing and storage. The aim of this study was to observe the effect of antioxidant activity on different smoking methods and storage time for 28 days at freezing temperature on the quality of smoked milkfish. Corn cob liquid smoke was used due to phenol content as an antioxidant. The design used in this study was a factorial completely randomized design which consisted of two factors. The first factor is the difference in smoking methods, corncob liquid smoke (Ac) and Traditional (Tr). While the second factor is the length of storage on day 0 (T0); day 14 (T14) and day 28 (T28). The test parameters observed were analysis of phenol content; PV; TBA; lipid content; and pH. The results of this study showed that different smoking methods and storage time at freezing temperature showed significant differences (P<0.05) on the phenol value; PV; TBA; lipid value; and pH of smoked milkfish. During storage, phenol value; lipid; and pH of smoked milkfish decreased. Meanwhile, the value of PV and TBA increased as a result of the lipid oxidation process so as to produce peroxide from detheorized fat. The PV and TBA values of smoked milkfish are still acceptable by consumers. Keywords: Antioxidant acticvity; Corncob liquid smoke; Milkfish; Traditional

Abstract

This research was aims to determine the effect of coconut shell liquid smoke application on the smoking process on the physicochemical quality of smoked catfish stored at freezing temperature for 14 days. The test parameters used were proximate analysis (protein, fat, and water content), salt-soluble protein, pH, texture (adhesion, springness, cohesiveness, hardness). Analysis of the data in this experiment using a completely randomized design with different storage time treatments (0 days; 7 days; and 14 days) at freezing temperatures. The results of the analysis of variance showed that the application of coconut shell liquid smoke to smoked catfish gave a significant difference (P <0.05) to the physicochemical quality including proximate, salt-soluble protein, pH, and texture. During storage, there was a decrease in the proximate value and salt soluble protein of smoked catfish, while the pH value increased. Meanwhile, texture, adhesion, springiness, and cohesiveness values decreased along with the decreasing proximate value of smoked catfish, and the hardness value showed an increase during storage resulting in a harder texture of fish meat due to protein denaturation. Keywords: Coconut shell liquid smoke; Frozen storage; Physicochemical quality; Smoked catfish nutritional

Abstract

Dham Pulo Village, located in the Aceh Besar district, has been engaged in freshwater aquaculture for 10 years. Fishery activities in this village already have a supply chain of fish seeds produced independently of expansion activities. Technological applications have also been applied, such as fish feed engineering and the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in feeding methods. This study aims to examine the potential of Dham Pulo village as a pilot model for freshwater fishery technoparks and identify supporting factors in the development of village potential management as a technopark tourism destination in Aceh Besar District. This study uses qualitative methods with field observations, including interviews and documentation, as well as data analysis. The results of the study show that indicators of the potential of technopark villages include land and infrastructure capabilities, agroecology, creating added value, employment opportunities, government support, and research and development institutions, which show a value of 75.88% in the high category. Therefore, it can be concluded that Dham Pulo Village has high potential and is feasible to be used as a technopark area. However, to increase the potential and make Dham Pulo Village a technopark tourism village, formal regulatory support from the government is needed. Cultivators are limited in their development of land used for cultivation because it belongs to the government. Keywords: Dham Pulo; fisheries; freshwater; Potential; techno Park

Abstract

Betta fish are freshwater ornamental fish that are very popular and have quite high economic value, but the reproductive process still depends on the spawning season, so an increase in reproductive potential is needed. The experiment was conducted in order to determine the role of each induction Oocite development (Oodev) hormone in the diet to betta fish female final maturation process and morphology gonads. Completely randomized design (CRD) with one factor consisting of 5 treatments and 3 replications. The main factors are Oodev hormone dosage: 0.0 mL.kg-1 fish weigh; 0.5 mL.kg-1 fish; 1.0 mL.kg-1 fish; 1.5 mL.kg-1 fish and 2.0 mL.kg-1 fish. We used 135 female broodstock with an initial weight range ± 1-2.15 g.ekor-1 and at stage II of gonad maturation. Fish were fed three a day at 07.00 am, 12.00 am, and 05.00 pm at satiation level during 45 days. During the final maturation, gonad morphology, survival rates, and water quality were observed. The results show that Oodev hormone induction could improve final maturation up to 266.66%. This result is comparatively higher than 0.0 mL.kg-1 and 0.5 mL.kg-1 fish hormone induction and produces 100% of mature broodstock. Thus, the Oodev hormone induction at optimal dose of 1.16 mL.kg-1 of fish can improve the induction maturation up to 2-3 times faster maturation frequency on the out of spawning seasonKeywords:Female Betta splendens; final maturation; Oodev; feed
