Abstract

In this study of teratogenic toxicity tests was carried out on the ethanol extract of tamarindus leaves (Tamarindus Indica Linn) on rats (Rattus norvegicus) during the organogenesis period. This study aims to know the safety and toxicity of the administration of ethanol extract of tamarind leaves (Tamarindus indica L.) to fetus rats (Rattus norvegicus) with macroscopic parameters including number, resorption, weight, and skeleton of the fetus. 15 animals were divided into 3 groups, each group consisted of 5 rats. Group I was treated with 0.5% Na CMC as normal control,  group II was treated with ethanol extract of tamarind leaves with a dose of 14 mg / 200 g BW for 10 days and group III was given a simvastatin tab at a dose of 10 mg / kg BW. Treatment was given orally during the organogenesis period on the 5th to 15th day of pregnancy. On the 16th day, laparatomy of the rat and fetus was removed from the uterus. The results showed that the suspension of ethanolic extract of tamarind leaves did not cause teratogenic occurrence in fetal rats, and the control of simvastatin caused teratogenic due to resorption, less fetal weight, hand and foot defect, and death in the fetus, compared to the normal control group.

Abstract

Gambir (Uncaria gambir (Hunter) Roxb.) is a superior commodity of West Sumatra that has many benefits and has been used as a drug. Plant identification carried out morphologically has many weaknesses, with the development of electronic and genetic technology now a new method of species identification has been developed. plants and animals, namely DNA barcoding technology that uses standard short pieces of DNA Species identification methods have been agreed to using standard DNA barcodes are rbcL genes and matK genes. The purpose of this study is to find out DNA Barkoding candidates between matK and rbcL which can identify gambier (Uncaria gambir (Hunter) Roxb.) Which is good. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique is used to amplify rbcL and matK gene sequences through universal primers. The DNA sequences of the MATC sequence in the GR sample (Riau Gambir) produced a similarity rate of 98.79% with Nauclea diderrichii, for the rbcL sequence GC (Cubadak Gambir) samples produced a similarity rate of 99.81% with Uncaria macrophylla, and GR (Gambir Riau) samples produced the similarity rate was 96.84% with Uncaria macrophylla based on analysis with BOLD Systems. This similarity indicates the low variation in intraspecific genetics for the identification or confirmation of gambir species

Abstract

Continuous sun exposure to the skin will cause skin damage due to the oxidative effects of free radicals. Phenolic compounds in the form of antioxidants can act as sunscreens to prevent adverse effects due to UV radiation. Positive corn silk contains phenols and flavonoids, which are compounds that have the potential to act as sunscreens and anti-oxidants. This research method was carried out by collecting roasted corn hair waste samples to be made dry simplicia, then extraction extraction with 70% ethanol solvent. The extract obtained was then formulated into a cream with a concentration variation of 1, 5 and 10%. Furthermore, an evaluation of the physical quality of the cream preparation and antioxidant activity test using the DPPH method were also tested for the SPF value. The results showed that the evaluation of the quality of the cream preparations met the requirements. The antioxidant activity test of cream preparations is categorized as very weak. Test the SPF value of cream preparations including the maximum protection category in formulation III.

Abstract

Seaweed (Eucheuma cottoni) is a marine biota that is often used as an additive to pharmaceutical products that function as thickener. But seaweed, which is rich in carrageenan, also contains vitamin C which has the potential as an antioxidant. The method used was to test the antioxidant activity of seaweed extract (Eucheuma cottoni) with the DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhdrazil) damping method. The test sample was in the form of seaweed ethyl acetate extract, where the standard standard of comparison of quarsetin and seaweed extract samples was made in 5 variations of concentration. The standard curve produced by quarsetin with concentrations of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 ppm at the maximum wavelength DPPH 514,942 nm. The results obtained by the Kuarsetin standard with regression values y = 6.4765x + 7.567, the correlation value r = 0.99959 and IC50 = 6.48 (very strong antioxidant activity) while the ethyl acetate extract of seaweed with concentrations of 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1400 ppm % inhibition was obtained with regression values y = 0.0104x + 16.708, the correlation value r = 0.9972 and IC50 = 3201.15 (very weak antioxidants). So it can be concluded that the seaweed ethyl acetate extract has the potential for antioxidant activity.
