Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of multiple intelligence strategies in developing the literary appreciation of second-year secondary students in Yemen. The study adopted the quasi-experimental approach, deploying a two-group quasi-experimental design, an experimental and a control group. The sample of this study was represented by the second-year students of secondary school at Al-Farouq Primary Secondary School in Taiz governorate. There were 30 students in the experimental group and 29 students in the control group. The data for two correlated and two independent samples were analysed using a statistical program (SPSS, 28) with arithmetic means, standard deviations, and T tests. The results showed a statistically significant difference between the average scores of the experimental group students in the pre- and post-applications of the literary taste test, in favour of the post-application, with a very large effect size, in addition to the superiority of the experimental group over the control group in the post literary taste test. The results portrayed that teaching strategies based on the theory of multiple intelligence effectively developed the literary appreciation skills of second-year secondary students.

The data analysis was carried out using the comparative language approach. After analyzing the data, this study revealed that there are similarities and differences in the languages’ structures and meanings, indicating that the Arabic language and the Hebrew language are semitic languages. The similarities between حروف الجر in the Arabic language and מילות יחס in the Hebrew language can be found in the use of the noun after prepositions, and meanings if the מילות יחס  and the حروف الجر used in the sentence. The differences between حروف الجر in the Arabic language and מילות יחס  in the Hebrew language demonstrate that the  מילות יחס has many rules in its use, where the word afterwards affects its movement. Such a case does not exist in the Arabic language, and that حروف الجر  draws what follows it  from the nouns, and this does not exist in the Hebrew language because it have no syntax. Subsequently, ל מילות יחס   and حروف الجر have different meanings when used in sentences.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of communication according to al-Jahidz. Communication comes from Latin communication, which is rooted in the word communism, which means the same meaning of something. In other words, a communication event will take place if the people involved in it have the same perception or meaning of what is being communicated. As a term, communication can be defined as the delivery and reception of messages or information between two or more people using verbal (language) and nonverbal symbols. This article uses a descriptive qualitative method, which describes and analyzes in-depth verbal communication according to Al-Jahidz. The data collection technique makes use of primary data sources through documents of al-Jahidz books (al-Bayan wa al-Tabyin, al-Hayawan, al-Risalah Li al-Jahidz, al-Hayawan) and other books that discuss al-Jahidz (Usmaniyah Li al-Jahidz, al-Bukhala’ Li al-Jahidz, al-Malamich al-Adaiyah Li al-Jahidz). The results reveal that Al-Jahidz is an Arabic linguist who discusses the theory of verbal communication which includes: the concept of verbal communication, forms of verbal communication and its characteristics, the effect of verbal communication on the same speaker alongside its relationship to the intellectual level, the influence of physical signs or movements on strengthening and controlling verbal performance, commissions, and their effects on verbal performance, varying performance effects on verbal communication, and preference for speaking over silence.

Abstract

This study aims (1) to describe the specifications of Constructivism-based-based Arabic Textbook, (2) to describe the process of Arabic learning using Constructivism-based Arabic Textbook, and (3) to describe the effectiveness of using Constructivism-based Arabic Textbook for mahârah kitâbah (writing skill). This is a quasi-experimental study using data obtained through Questionnaires and Tests. The experiment was applied to students of the Arabic Language Education study program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, at the University Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara, Medan, in the odd Semester of 2021-2022 academic year. Thirty-two participants were chosen as a sample of a total population of 97 people Questionnaires and tests were employed as the instruments to collect the data, which were further analyzed using the SPSS 16.0 program. The findings can be seen as follows. (1). The specification of Constructivism-based Arabic textbook can be expressed in a sentence, namely: al-Qirâ’atu wa Kitâbatuhs wa al-Tahlîlu ma’a Kitâbatin Jadîdah. It is called “al-Qirâ’ah” because each chapter begins with the jumlah wazhifiy. It is called “Kitâbatuhâ” because students are asked to rewrite jumlah wazhifiy they read. It is called “al-Tahilîl” because students are required to analyze jumlah wazhifiy. It is called “Kitâbah Jadîdah” because students are instructed to construct new wazhifiy related to tarkîb. (2). The learning is known as "Nyari Zoom Analis Dewa", and it stands for "Penyajian Materi dengan Zoom, Latihan Menulis dengan WA” (Literally translated as the presentation conducted through Zoom, the writing practice conducted through WhatsApp) (3). The Constructivism-based Arabic textbook for mahârah kitâbah is considered adequate based on the validators’ assessment and experiment results. The results showed that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. There was an average difference between the Pretest and Posttest. The Pretest result was lower than the Posttest. Therefore, a Constructivism-based Arabic textbook is effective in increasing the mahârah kitâbah.
