Abstract

This study aimed to collect experts’ opinions and consensus towards the objectives of teaching Arabic collocations. A questionnaire distributed to experts was the technique employed to garner the data. 12 professionals participated in this study, and Delphi's Method was used to analyse the data. In recent years, a great number of researchers have focused their emphases on the teaching of collocations to Arabic language learners. This is because multiple studies have shown that mastering collocational words affects one's proficiency in a second language. However, the precise use of Arabic collocation continues to be a substantial hurdle for students, to the point where it indirectly affects their competency to produce language. Additionally, educators lack direction and do not know where to begin. The study's findings demonstrated that all components of teaching objectives; knowledge, skill, and application met the fuzzy Delphi requirements, which called for a value threshold of less than 0.2 with a percentage of the experts’ group above 75%. This demonstrated that the fundamental components in determining the educational objectives contained critical components required by students according to experts’ agreements.

Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the structures of intransitive independent clauses in the film “Ḏīb” based on the perspective of Kenneth L. Pike’s tagmemic theory. This was a qualitative descriptive study. This study gathered data from an Arabic film entitled Ḏīb directed by Naji Abu Nowar. The data collection techniques used in this study were watching, translating, and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicated that there were four structures of intransitive independent clauses in the film “Ḏīb,” namely: (1) S + P consisted of three parts: The first was S + P. The second was the intransitive independent clause = NP + IVP. The third covered slot containing S + P, class which entailed NP + IVP, role that subsumed S + P, and cohesion without objects. (2) P + S + Adjunct (Adj – NP) comprised three parts. The first was P + S + Adj – NP. The second was the intransitive independent clause = IVP + NP1 + NP2. The third consisted of slot which contained P + S + Adj, class that subsumed IVP + NP1 + NP2, role which entailed P + S + Adj, and cohesion without objects. (3) P + S + Adjunct (Adj – PP) had three parts. The first was P + S + Adj – PP. The second was the intransitive independent clause = IVP + NP + PP. The third involved slot which entailed P + S + Adj, class that subsumed IVP + NP + PP, role comprised of P + S + Adj, and cohesion without objects. (4) S + P + Adjunct (Adj – AP) consisted of three parts. The first was S + P + Adj – AP. The second was the intransitive independent clause = NP + IVP + AP. The third comprised slot containing S + P + Adj, class which subsumed NP + IVP + AP, role consisting of S + P + Adj, and cohesion without objects.

Abstract

This research was conducted to design an e-book based on Flippdf Professional in Arabic listening comprehension for Matriculation Programme. The Matriculation Programme is an Arabic preparation class that is ‎prepared ‎for ‎prospective new students. This program aims to equalize ‎Arabic ‎competencies so that ‎the students can ‎communicate actively with ‎Arabic in academic ‎activities. However, this program ‎still ‎faces ‎difficulties in attaining teaching materials, ‎especially ‎listening comprehension materials which ‎make it ‎difficult for ‎educators to choose themes that are in accordance ‎with student ‎competencies, thus ‎making the learning process ineffective. The ‎development of an ‎e-book based on the ‎Flippdf Professional ‎ was chosen because of its advantages ‎over printed books ‎that can ‎fulfil the needs and learning objectives of listening comprehension. ‎The research design used in this ‎research is Research ‎and Development (R&D) comprised of five ‎stages of the ADDIE ‎model ‎‎(Analyze, Design, Develop, Implementation, and Evaluation). The percentage value of validity from the material ‎aspect was 86%, while the media aspect was 95%, and 91% from ‎the language aspect. Calculation results of trials conducted ‎to determine the effectiveness of the product show that the ttest = -16.42 and ttable = 2,045 ‎with the percentage of error tolerance of α=0,05% it can be concluded that ttable> tcount, and ‎the product developed is effective to increase the student grade.‎ The calculation result of the trials to determine the product's effectiveness for both the Experiment classes was considered effective with sig. (2-tailed) <sig.0.05 = 0.000.

Abstract

This research attempts to explore the use of Arabic authentic texts in teaching reading skills communicatively in the classroom and its impact on developing reading skills and motivating students to learn to read. To address this issue, quantitative research was conducted on 34 students from the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the State Islamic University of Tulungagung. The participants were divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group using four authentic Arabic texts that were taken from online newspapers with appropriate readability. It was made to measure before and after reading using the original Arabic texts. Independent samples of the t-test and the group acquisition method in the pre- and post-test revealed that the use of authentic reading texts has a positive effect on the reading comprehension of second-stage students. From the pre-test to the post-test, there was a significant difference (0.001 < 0.05) before and after the implementation of the authentic reading texts. Also, the authentic texts affected students' motivation to read. Through observation and interview, it is obtained that the proper use that is built in the light of the authentic Arabic texts has a positive effect on the students’ motivation to read, in that the students have the desire to read the texts more than they were, because they are interested in texts that describe the life and real culture from the learned language.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine students' perceptions of an ideal Arabic lecturer’s personality competence. This study used an exploratory approach with the data collection technique deploying an online questionnaire distributed via a Google Form. After completing the online questionnaire, the researchers also selected three students for individual interviews based on their availability and willingness to participate. This study revealed several important findings: First, Arabic language lecturers must act according to the prevailing norms and feel proud of their profession. Second, an Arabic lecturer must be independent in acting without being influenced by interventions from anyone and have a high work ethic. Third, an Arabic lecturer must be neutral in treating students in the classroom. Fourth, an Arabic lecturer must use polite language when delivering materials and not be arrogant, which could create a tense/scary atmosphere during the learning process. Fifth, an Arabic language lecturer must set an example for students, such as getting used to speaking Arabic in everyday life so that students could imprint the lecturer.

Abstract

This paper examined the narrative structure, language style, and chronology of Aşḥāb Al-Kahfi story in Al-Qur'an. The research data were obtained from Al-Qur'ān. The Qur’anic verses which told about Aşḥāb Al-Kahf were collected in Surah Al-Kahf (18) verses 9-26. The results showed that the narrative structure of this story consists of orientation I, sequence of events I, coda I, complication, orientation II, sequence of events II, orientation III, coda II, orientation IV, and resolution. These structures are interrelated and form a logical, holistic, and beautiful story unit that fulfil all elements of Mark Anderson’s and Kathryn Anderson’s narrative-structure concepts. Meanwhile, the dialogue style dominates in the presentation of stories that are in accordance with the journey of the Prophet’s da’wa. The dialogue style used in the presentation of the story is calm and acceptable. This style is intended to defend the call of the prophet's da'wa and refute people’s rejection in the middle Meccan period through the theme of monotheism value and the mention of Allah’s powers. This study contributes to putting the theory of stylistics and narratology in the reading of story verses. Hence, this paper suggests a further study of the story verse covering the narrative structure’s meaning and function as well as aspects of the beauty of pronunciation and story verse meanings.
