Abstract

Autism is one delay in child development. It is the result of complex and varied brain development disorders, one of them is disturbance in sensory system (sensory integration) in children. The disturbance causes the children to be unable to adapt optimally, thus, it affects behavioral and psychological responses of children with autism in their environment. The number of children with autism increases from year to year, including in Surakarta. A rehabilitation centre is therefore needed in this city. This rehabilitation centre for children with autism is uses a functional recovery for behavior, occupation, and nervous system (neurons), and sensory systems of children who experienced the disorder to regenerate its form or function. This rehabilitation centre will accommodate medical, therapeutic, and educational activities by using  special environmental designs planned according to the sensory needs and specific stimuli needs for each different autistic child. The design concept of this rehabilitation centre focuses on the sensory needs of children with aurism. It will be applied through building physical elements in the form of inside and outside spatial elements. Both elements will be designed with various considerations of the choice of attributes or architectural elements, such as: design principles, shapes, scales, colors, building materials. These considerations will create specific effects for each individual with different levels of sensory perception disorder. This rehabilitation favility will provide 5 special zones for autistic children which are categorized  based on the level of disturbance and condition of the children. The categorization is expected to play a major role in accelerating the process of healing and development of children physically, psychologically, intellectually, and socially. Consequently, it can  establish a child with autism into an independent, creative, exist, and skilled human as other normal children.

Abstract

The location preference for each individual is different because influenced by various factors. Nowadays, various dynamics of these factors have changed and resulted in the displacement of housing to meet better living. This paper tries to explore various theoretical studies regarding the tendency of location selection by low-income communities. This theoretical study was compiled from various studies consisting of results of studies, and results of previous research publications related to the topic of this study. The research method is carried out by data processing techniques derived from literature studies, the discovery of important keywords and theoretical frameworks for the final part of the writing this paper. The factors that influence the choice of location selection between general public and low income communities are almost same but different priorities. Accessibility that makes it easier for residents to access various locations to be addressed is a priority in choosing location selection for the people, while low-income communities prioritize consideration of the distance of location selection to workplaces. Another low-income people choose to live in the downtown area for the convenience of living close to job providers, while others choose to live on the outskirts of the city with consideration of affordable land.

Abstract

The sustainability for cultural heritage is a vital thing for present time and future. Recently, traditional house which is  a javanese cultural heritage is slowly gone in Jagalan, Kotagede.  Homestay in jagalan kotagede as a living museum which has a characteristic of cultural properties area has changed. As Jagalan characteristics seems arousing little interest, it makes Jagalan loses heritage spirit and also leads to the unorganized local people. These are due to the economical, social and political matters. Thus, the effort to achieve harmony will be done, including area planning, traditional home stay building, local art, culinary road characteristics, Jagalan potential and adaptive side to the earthquake effect. The official announcement of “Jagalan Tlisih” by Sultan Hamengku Buwono X will be able to make everyone realize that the sustainability of cultural heritage is important. Jagalan Village should be supported by maintaining the potential within, in order to accomplish the realization of cultural tourism village. moreover, traditional building which is counted as  potential legacy needs to be preserved and maintained. Abstract

Colomadu is a locality of Karanganyar Regency located quite far apart from the Karanganyar Regency (exclave). Existing issues in the region of Colomadu becoming the background of planning and designing Budget Hotel in Colomadu with Energy Saving Architecture approach, as for instances, the existence of competition between hotels; a tendency of the tourist to stay in affordable lodgments with comfortable facilities; most of the hotels in Colomadu have not applied the concept of energy saving; as well as the Colomadu area good prospects and strategic location Budget Hotel since it is close to the International Airport of Adi Sumarmo and bounded by regions with capability to support  activities in the Budget Hotel. The problem of the design is how to implement energy saving concept (focus on lighting and air conditioning system) on the building as an effort to minimize the expenses of energy use, but the facilities granted stay comfortable and affordable. The purpose of this design is getting a building design that provides lodging facilities with affordable, comfortable, and apply the concept of energy saving. The method used is the method of designing architecture with the Energy Saving Architecture approach. The results obtained, i.e. the design  Budget Hotel with Energy Saving Architecture approach which is applied to the lighting and air conditioning system, such as determining the position of the openings and performing control of sunlight by providing massive walls, overhang, and secondary skin on the exterior of the building simulated with Autodesk Ecotect Analysis 2011 as well as the use of the roller blind or curtains in interior building, simulation system for Dialux 4.12 artificial lighting, and simple calculations to determine the system of artificial air conditioning (AC).
