Abstract

This article aims to demonstrate the acculturation of Islam and Javanese culture in the Liwan Room of “Gedhe Mataram” Mosque, Kotagede. Islamic and Javanese culture’s acculturation in the building, especially mosque, important known to add insight about the tolerance between two cultural elements that can occur in the architecture’s world. Liwan room is part of the space of a mosque which functions as a prayer area. Liwan Room at the “Gedhe Mataram” Mosque, Kotagede has a distinctive design considering this mosque is the first and oldest mosque in Yogyakarta. The development of Islam in Java, especially in Yogyakarta, resulted in the transformation of local civilizations. Islam and Javanese culture itself are two different elements and have their own value. The entry of Islamic culture to Java had an impact on the acculturation of Islam and Javanese culture, where Javanese culture had already lived during the time of the Javanese Hindu kingdoms. The method used is a qualitative research method with a philosophical approach supported by observation and library studies. As a result, there is an acculturation of Islam and Javanese culture in the Liwan Room of “Gedhe Mataram” Mosque, Kotagede in layout, interior elements and ornaments in the Liwan room.

Abstract

The knowledge of building housing by the Rejang clan in Gunung Alam Village by trial and error using local materials as well as a simple way of reflecting the uniqueness of the form of shelter in the Rejang clan community residing in mountainous rural areas. The focus of this research is to identify the relationship between the form of shelter and the realization of anticipation of occupancy as its role as adaptive shelter in earthquake prone areas. This research is a qualitative descriptive study describing the form of occupancy of the Rejang Clan by exploring the configuration of the building and its structural system to understand the form of occupancy of the Rejang Clan as an adaptive building in earthquake prone areas. The adaptability of the Rejang clan as a shelter in earthquake-prone areas has been implemented through the form of houses on stilts which have a ratio of widths and lengths of buildings 1: 2 with symmetrical and simple spatial arrangements. Ratio of balanced heights in each structure. However, the use of nails has been found in homes and the addition of space that forms a new mass behind the original mass of housing with brick material becomes a risk in the event of an earthquake in the future. Even so, the Rejang Clan occupancy in Gunung Alam Village is still strong to be inhabited by the Rejang Clan and is adaptive in responding to earthquake shocks.

Abstract

Cultural heritage areas in the form of historic urban villages are part of the country's wealth that deserves to be preserved. The value and authenticity of settlements is the focus of conservation measures. Protocol Hoi Ana in 2009 explained the dimensions of cultural heritage. This dimension is divided into two: first, dimensions that are visible, in the form of visual, visible, building material, location, place settings, and others. Second, the dimensions of values contained in cultural heritage, in the form of history, spirit of place and others. The authenticity and whereabouts of historic villages in a city have so far decreased in number and seem to disappear with frequent cases of fires that damage this cultural heritage area. From the data collected, there are various causes of fires in the historic urban village. The main focus is related to the low level of public awareness, among others: negligence due to the fall of candles, transformer explosions, excessive use of currents, low awareness of the causes of electricity theft practices which often lead to short circuits which cause fires that cause casualties, damage to urban areas and historical buildings in it. The historic city village is a property of the nation and state. The community has the same responsibility in a community to save and preserve it. This paper reviews various literature studies related to the role of the community in preventing the danger of fire in cultural heritage areas that have been home to tens or even hundreds of years. With the existence of knowledge and sense of ownership by the community, it is hoped that fire prevention management in the historic township can be applied and its sustainability carried out.

Abstract

City branding is an effort to build an identity about a city and providing opportunities for the realization of regional development both in terms of economy and tourism. Branding can be realized through all forms of parts of the city that have distinctive characteristics that are influenced by physical and non-physical characteristics. “Solo the Spirit of Java” means that “Solo is the soul of Java” which reflects the depth of meaning of the cultural, artistic and historical roots of Solo. Since branding was established and legalized, several things have been done by the city government, one of the efforts are regarding physical characteristics is clearly visible in several buildings including cultural heritage buildings. Javanese iconic elements are deliberately preserved as a form of preservation and branding. This research was conducted to identify the application of Javanese iconic elements in hotel buildings in Surakarta. The method used in this study is collecting secondary data and observing to identify the application of Javanese iconic elements in buildings. The results illustrate that the application of Javanese iconic elements in hotel buildings is not optimal. It is because the visual view of building has not been able to attract attention, so it does not have a strong character. This needs more attention to all relevant stakeholders to improve the image or character of the building so that it can become a city branding that can strengthen the identity of Surakarta City through physical characteristics.

Abstract

Pekanbaru is a city that is growing rapidly and becomes one of the cities that is frequently visited. But the tourist attraction by the city of Pekanbaru are still lacking. Besides that in the geographical triangle, the water region in Riau Province is bigger than the land area, so the water region in Riau Province has a very high potential. But education about marine life and conservation areas that support biota protection in Riau province is still very least. Therefore, we need a public facility that is equipped with recreational, educational, and conservational needs. To actualize these public facilities, then will be designed an Oceanarium in Pekanbaru City. Oceanarium is a reservoir in a giant aquarium for the conservation of plants and marine biota that serves as a means of education, research, preservation, marine development, and exhibited as a means of recreation. The theme of the Oceanarium in Pekanbaru is Biomorphic Architecture. Biomorphic Architecture is part of architectural design that proposes all ideas taken from organic life, by form, system, or movement. Through the concept of Ocean Life Dynamics, the characteristics of building functions can be made as recreational facilities, conservation, and education about life under the sea.

Abstract

Child institutionalization (orphanage) is considered as a crime due to child segregation from their family to a residential care institution. In Indonesia, about 94% of 500.000 children are still having at least one biological parent and they live in orphanages. There are several bad impacts in orphan mental health such as less confidence, indifferent, reserved, and suffering dramatic developmental delays. Therefore, there is a need to develop the design of a facility to reunite the orphans and their family as an act of deinstitutionalization. This facility context is integrated to and managed by (kampong) community center as a way to decentral and deinstitutionalize orphanages, which need the role of community as a mediator for orphans to reunite with their community and family. Since this article writes the research part as well as proposing a solution of design, inductive-abductive-deductive methods are used. According to data gathered and analyzed, main design problems formulated are how to design spaces (design of open space, counseling room, and integration to other facilities) that encourage family reunification.  Therapeutic Courtyard is the design concept synthesized based on those problems. First strategy is to create a playground theme to a central courtyard as a tool to encourage family interaction. Second is a counseling room as space that provides a sense of relief. Third solution is putting natural elements as a space enclosure as well as creating therapeutic effects.

Abstract

Pacet is one of the natural attractions in Mojokerto Regency, East Java. According to the Mojokerto Regency Spatial Plan for 2012-2032, the area of Pacet is a prioritized area for tourism development. Most of tourist areas in Mojokerto, especially in Pacet, have an increase of 30% -70% of visitors since 2015, one of which is Padusan Pacet Tourism Wana. However, it is unfortunate that the increasing number of tourists is not followed by the development of tourist accommodation. Based on the natural potential of Pacet with a cool and pollution-free atmosphere, the application of the Ecotourism concept to Resort Hotel buildings is expected to benefit the surrounding environment in Pacet. The application of Ecotourism to the design of Resort Hotels will be focused on the natural potential of Pacet (Natural Area Focus). In addition, in the future, there will also be land conservation and plants to preserve the natural ecosystem of Padusan (Contribution To Conservation). This concept incorporates local cultural elements of Pacet (Cultural Respect) in Mojokerto District to attract tourists to stay at Resort Hotels in Pacet.

Abstract

This paper focuses on identifying tourism potentials of kecamatan Pracimantoro, Wonogiri. This area has not been recognized as tourist destination despite the fact that some part of the area has been acknowledged as UNESCO’s Geopark. While UNESCO encourages the geopark to contribute to the economy of local people, this opportunity has not been realized fully by the people of Pracimantoro. Our research aims to identify Pracimantoro’s potentials for tourism so that the result can be used for tourism planning. By compiling potentials found in each village of Pracimantoro, and putting them into categories, we conclude that there are two main potentials for tourism in kecamatan Pracimantoro: Geopark and culture.
