Abstract

Surakarta has high interest in the development of music such as Jazz music. This issue can be seen from the existence of the largest Jazz music community in Surakarta that actively organizes regular events named SoJazz Society. Surakarta also has an annual routine event named Solo City Jazz. However, all of Jazz music events in Surakarta do not have an appropriate place acoustically based on reverberation time. The purpose of this design is to implementing reverberation time in the interior design of the auditorium and jazz club of Jazz Music Hall in Surakarta. According to the planning location in Surakarta, there is a possibility of  collaboration between Jazz music and Central Javanese music because the city of Surakarta is famous for traditional performing arts. Beside that, Jazz music and Traditional music also have the same reverberation time range. The method used in this design is quantitative regarding to reverberation time. The result of this design are Auditorium and Jazz Club which are designed with the arrangement of centralized speaker and the application of Heradesign, Thermatex, Plasterboard, cloth, carpet and wood materials in this design. Auditorium designed with hexagonal shape, the distance between spectators and performers is not more than 40m.

Abstract

Dutch colonial architecture that developed in Indonesia, throughout the colonial period (around the 17th century to 1942) was a combination of colonial and local culture to respond to the Indonesian climate. Dutch colonial architecture in Indonesia is a work of Dutch colonial heritage in Indonesia during the colonial period. The result was the Dutch East Indies style with a "colonial" image and adapted to the local environment that responded to climate. Colonial architecture grafted architecture from European countries into colonies. The aspects of Dutch colonial architecture in the "Pendopo Puri Mangkunegran" building were studied to find out the elements of Dutch colonial architecture. "Pendopo Puri Mangkunegarn" is a vernacular architecture / Javanese architecture with a pillar structure system, allegedly there is an architectural element from the outside due to acculturation. The results of this study will be encouraged to know aspects of Dutch colonial architecture in the "Pendopo Puri Mangkunegaran" building from aspects of floor plans, structures, materials and other architectural elements. The results of this study are also expected to contribute knowledge in the field of architecture related to acculturation of foreign cultures that have an impact on local architecture.

Abstract

City Parks in terms of social functions can be used as a place for social interaction, a means for sports, play and recreation. As a public facility, city parks must accommodate all groups of people, ranging from normal people, children, disabled people and the elderly. One way to provide facilities for all visitors is to apply universal design principles. Universal design aims to facilitate everyone's life through the creation of products, the built environment and communication to be used by as many people as possible and provide added value for everyone. The purpose of this study is to examine the implementation of universal design principles in Taman Samarendah. The location of the study was in Taman Samarendah, using a descriptive qualitative research method. Seven principles of universal design and Permen PUPR No.14/PRT/2017 becomes the guideline and standardization in this study. The results of this study indicate that Samarendah Park has not fully applied the universal design principles and accessibility standards. The most universal principles of design that are not applied are the principle of tolerance for error and the principle of low physical effort. The principle that is most widely applied is the size and space for approach.

Abstract

A humid tropical climate characterized by high temperatures, relative humidity and solar radiation results in uncomfortable environmental conditions. Discomfort will be worse if the building is in a dense urban area. Densely building masses often weaken the local wind speed which is necessary for evaporative cooling process in tropical climate. In addition, the narrow distance between buildings can reduce access to daylight. Both of these environmental problems were experienced by SDIT Al Uswah Surabaya, which building is located in a densely populated neighbourhood. Along with the development program of educational facilities and infrastructure at the school, improving environmental conditions with passive concept is maintained and prioritized. Embodiment of the environment with the Selective Environment approach is used in this activity. The results of this activity will be in the form of design proposals for improving ventilation and lighting in classrooms. The limitation of expanding openings becomes an obstacle in fulfilling the natural ventilation and lighting requirements. In addition, the design of a three-storey building with a single loaded corridor requires special consideration for the design of sun shading that is safe for elementary school-age children, but still supports passive lighting and ventilation.

Abstract

Aruk is part of Sebunga Village, Sajingan Besar District, Sambas Regency, west-Kalimantan. The Aruk region is directly adjacent to the country of Malaysia and developed into a Pos Lintas Batas Negara (PLBN). The existence of PLBN provides easy access that affects not only the economic and social culture, but also has an impact on the physical changes of buildings in this area. This research was conducted to recognize the physical characteristics of buildings, especially residential buildings located in the Aruk border area. 74 selected buildings were collected through observation which was strengthened by interviews with users. The variables in this study are the function, use of materials and visual form of the building's appearance. Data were analyzed to see the closeness of building characteristics, especially with the year of establishment so as to conclude the character of residential buildings in these locations. The results of the analysis show that buildings that built earlier periode in the Aruk use material that are easily found around locations, especially wood, and have a more complex appearance than the buildings after. These characteristics tend to change in line with the development of this area and increasingly easy access to the region.

Abstract

Bebak, the local building material of East Nusa Tenggara, has long been used as the primary building material, especially as wall material. However, bebak wall construction commonly used today is not yet ideal in terms of its material protection and function. Bebak is a relatively quick damage construction due to termites, which eventually causes the enclosed space's thermal conditions less comfortable. This research is part of the quality improvement program of healthy housing in that region, which focuses on bebak wall protection by plastering the wall with concrete plaster. Two scale models were examined; a wall plastered only on one side, and a wall plastered on both sides. By using a simple construction approach, the research aims to evaluate the bebak protection technique's effects on the construction stability and the bond strength between the bebak composite wall materials. The results of visual evaluations revealed that single-sided plaster on bebak walls could maintain the construction stability and the bond strength of the composite material better than the double-sided one. Furthermore, the evaluation also reveals additional benefits of the plastered walls for the users, such as adaptability and simplicity of modular wall replication to build affordable healthy housing.

Abstract

Indonesia has various ethnic societies that have been migrated from their origin places and settled in other regions. It also occurs where Sorkam community, a coastal ethnic communities originalle placed in Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra, have moved and settled in Bumi Yapemas Indah Housing, South Tambun, Bekasi Regency. This article discusses how specific ethnic communities lives in a modern gated-community in everyday life. It examines how communities using space in everyday lives and and their cultural forms is maintained in translocal living spaces. By Lefebvre’s rhythmanalysis approach, research is conducted with interviews with community leaders and a sample of residents, and also field observation. It is found that the traditional culture of the Sorkam people did not have a direct effect on the architecture and use of space, but the similarity in the culture of the community encouraged the interaction between the rhythms of people's lives. Cultural similarity encourages interaction between the rhythms of people's lives so that the phenomenon of space use is reinforced according to the Eurhythmia concept. The phenomena of using the space include: 1) the emergence of a sense of security and comfort in using spaces 2) utilization of indoor and outdoor spaces as a social space, and 3) adjustment of space according to the culture of the local community. It is hope this article will contribute to the studies of social production of space by specific community.

Abstract

A majority of modern-day Arab-Indonesians are the descendant of Hadramaut immigrants who came to Indonesia. They have stayed and settled in area near each other that are now known as kampung Arab. Most kampung Arab in Indonesia show that Arabs had similar pattern in their way of settling. Surakarta, as the chosen location, has kampung Arab located at Pasar Kliwon. There are theories about how these kampung Arab, including Pasar Kliwon, were developed.  The objective of this study is to explore the four theories of  Kampung Arab Pasar Kliwon development factors and the chronological sequence of those factors. This study is a qualitative research that uses secondary analysis of the previous studies as its method. Data verification utilised triangulation method, using various approaches, such as observation, interview, and participatory mapping. All four theories are considered valid. Based on the history of Kampung Arab Pasar Kliwon development, the factors in chronological order are  economic activities, community, keraton (imperial) government policy, and colonial government policy.
