Abstract

The phenomenon of acculturation between Dutch and Indonesian cultures occurs a lot in colonial cultural heritage objects. This condition is a description of a Dutch building during the colonial period. Differences in climate are fundamental between the Netherlands and Indonesia, colonial buildings in Indonesia exist as a form of adaptation to the climate in Indonesia. Adaptations to colonial buildings in the form of openings, roof shapes, and ceiling heights. Acculturation can be seen in spatial patterns, and column shapes. The method in this study is descriptive qualitative, and data collection is a literature study related to colonial architecture. The objects in the field have colonial architectural characteristics in the exterior and interior elements. The purpose of this research is to analyze the architectural elements of colonial architecture in Indonesia. The results of the research can add insight into the forms of adaptation to climate in colonial architecture.

Abstract

Bandung has a unique landscape and is also a historic city with colonial architectural characteristics. The formation of Bandung City, could not be separated from the influence of colonialism, marked by the construction of Jalan Raya Pos. Colonial city planning was carried out by making a master plan, some with the south-north axis of the landscape concepts, but philosophically the south-north axis has been applied since the Regent of Bandung built the pendopo area. This fact raises the question of whether the concept of colonial buildings also adopts the concept of Sundanese philosophy. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach and inductive logic analysis to produce generalized conclusions. From the results of this study, it was found that there was an influence of environmental contextual aspects, considerations of morphological forms, and political aspects in designing the landscape of colonial buildings in Bandung city.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the challenges of implementing green building concepts for residential buildings from the developer's point of view. Nowadays, housing provision in Indonesia highly depends on the property developer. Hence, the role of property developers in implementing green building concepts in residential buildings is incredibly significant. Data collection was conducted by sending questionnaires to various developers in Indonesia. The result shows that the main challenges in executing the green building concept are the lack of forceful regulations followed by a lack of market technology and training. In addition, during the implementation process, it was discovered that all developers had applied certain green building strategies, such as green area provision, site selection close to public facilities, natural lighting design, and ventilation design.

Abstract

Semiotic architecture is a bridge between architects and users who convey architectural information. The application of semiotic architecture to street art gallery buildings can be used as street art introduction images to users. Unfortunately, there is no research on the relationship between semiotic architecture and street art that can be used as design criteria parameters. Therefore, the urgency of this research is to find out which components of semiotic architecture are most suitable for the identity of street art galleries. The method of this research is studying the characteristics of street art and then analyzing it with three semiotic architectural theories from Yousafi, Uluğ and Huang & Zhou. This research produces the design criteria of a street art gallery, namely the use of polychromatic colors, the use of dominant walls, designing space without partitions, materials that give the impression of a street, and incorporating public street art interaction content.

Abstract

Batik museum is a place to preserve batik as part of the Indonesian local culture in the future. Currently, several batik-producing cities have their own batik museums, one of which is the Surakarta Batik Museum. The building uses a regionalism architectural design approach that is relevant to its function, namely elevating the local culture of Surakarta. The successness in applying the regionalism architectural approach can be seen in the implementation of building elements. This study aims to examine the successful application of the regionalism architectural approach to the Surakarta Batik Museum which is based on three regionalism architectural factors. The research uses qualitative methods with the acquisition of primary data and secondary data. The results of this study explain the success in applying the regionalism architectural approach to the Surakarta Batik Museum.

Abstract

The physical change of Sarinah in 2022 captivates the residents of Jakarta. In the previous era, this building had lost its glory due to the lack of focused planning for renovations, especially when Jakarta's development accelerated with the presence of many new modern buildings. This writing uses a qualitative descriptive method with a historical approach. The analysis of architectural typology on the building facade is conducted by exploring the history to find out the origin of events, functions, and simple forms of a building. The aim is to provide an overview of the importance of giving more attention to the renovation of historic buildings. Changes in building facades can show a different identity from one urban space related to the political and socio-cultural context. Determination of cultural heritage status provides benefits for its preservation by increasing the potential of buildings to revive memories and the continuity of urban modernism.

Abstract

The Skouw PLBN needs to address and develop a number of things in order to draw more tourists, including local cuisine, cultural arts facilities, and sports facilities. To find out the urgency, an assessment was carried out with the parameters of the SDGs with three main pillars, namely the balance between aspects of the economic, social and environmental fields. Field observations and literature studies served as the data collection method. The global action plan's SDGs implementation is based on the 5 P principles (People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership). The 4 Ps must be examined for the SDGs' accomplishment in order to understand social and economic problems in society. The outcomes include a number of strategies on the topics of food accessibility and availability, healthy living, education, gender equality, as well as community involvement to collaborate with the government to develop the Skouw PLBN region in a social and economic sustainable manner.

Abstract

The strategy for designing a rehabilitation center for abandoned children needs to pay attention to several criteria based on the characteristics of neglected children. The design criteria are arranged to get psychological comfort so that children can grow up with more productive activities, one of which can be through the application of the concept of a healing environment. The research aims to examine the theory of healing environment that fits the criteria of a rehabilitation center for neglected children as the basis for a design strategy. The research uses qualitative methods with comparative study techniques and theoretical reference comparisons. The result of the research is a design strategy based on the concept of healing environment which combines indoor and outdoor elements by exploiting the potential of the tropical climate related to natural lighting and ventilation.

Abstract

Thermal comfort is essential when designing a building that will serve as a work activities place. A comfortable work environment will increase worker productivity. This study is a form of correction to non-machine weaving production house to obtain an optimal ventilation system for achieving thermal comfort. This research uses quantitative in non-machine weaving production house in Pekalongan. The data collected are thermal measurement data and air intensity in the workspace directly from morning to evening for two days. Measurements using a thermometer, hygrometer, and hot wire anemometer. Measurements were carried out in two conditions to compare the air intensity in the workspace. The measurement results will be analyzed using the recommended standards. The observations show that natural ventilation is not optimal in a horizontal building and an open space with an inner court. The fan's type and shape affect the airflow arrangement in the room.
