Abstract

Socio-political conditions in a region have a substantial impact on architectural identity. Two contemporary events in Aceh: the 2004 tsunami and the Free Aceh Movement and the Republic of Indonesia conflict, impacted socio-political circumstances and architectural identities. This study revisits the architecture after those two contemporary events in Aceh by examining the socio-political processes and dynamics underlying its architectural representations. The research incorporates literature, theoretical data, and Aceh's architectural and urban history. This research also ties socio-political data to architectural phenomena after the two contemporary events. This research frames two main periods of architectural history after two contemporary events, namely Post-Tsunami 2004 and Post-Conflict. In the post-tsunami 2004 period, there are three architectural phenomena:  the shifting perspective of safe and vulnerable places, the new 'Tsunami' typology, and the revival of the old typology. While in the post-conflict period, there are also three architectural phenomena: the search for Islamic architecture, the return of regionalism, and architecture anomalies.

Abstract

Thermal comfort is determined by the thermal environment, personal factors and other factors. Thermal comfort can affect the state of the user in it, such as in the classroom. The purpose of this study was to identify the thermal comfort of students in the classroom and conduct interventions. Classroom users are final year Interior Design students who use the classroom for approximately 8 hours every day. Therefore, the thermal comfort of the classroom is very important to support the student learning process. The method used is observation and simulation. Making classroom simulations using Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, then analyzing them through Comfort Temperature and Predicted Mean Vote. The results show that the thermal comfort of students in the classroom is identified as having poor thermal quality. The results of the intervention show that alternative 2 class A is a classroom that has a better quality of thermal comfort than the other alternatives.

Abstract

The creation of territories on site offices and temporary housing can affect the activities within them. This study explores the criteria for territories in site offices and temporary housing through user comfort and privacy. Qualitative research methods were used, with data collection through primary and secondary sources. Primary data was collected from field studies on projects in East Java, while secondary data was obtained from literature studies. The results of this study are design criteria that can be used as a reference for designing site offices and temporary housing with a territory concept, focusing on spatial comfort and privacy. The study shows that design criteria for spatial comfort are dimensions appropriate to body size to create optimal movement space in limited areas, whereas design criteria for privacy involve specific functions and clear circulation without disturbing users’ privacy.

Abstract

One of the Dutch legacies in Probolinggo is the Heerenstraat Corridor. Despite having high historical value, the buildings along this corridor face major challenges in terms of preservation, mainly due to changes that change the characteristics of the corridor as a Dutch heritage. Therefore, this study aims to develop an effective preservation strategy for old buildings on Jalan Suroyo or the Heerenstraat corridor. The research method is to analyze the condition of the building, identify preservation constraints, and formulate a preservation strategy to ensure the sustainability of the buildings and corridor. This study highlights the lack of awareness, changes in building functions, and the absence of detailed regulations that cause problems in building preservation in Heerenstraat Probolinggo. Physical protection is needed to maintain and restore buildings. Various preservation approaches such as preservation, conservation, reconstruction, and adaptation are proposed as steps to preserve old buildings in the Heerenstraat corridor.

Abstract

This research analyzes and explores theories from various references regarding the design of gender spaces in mosques based on Islam's primary schools of thought. The literature review method in this research uses the Publish or Perish and Google Scholar with the keyword "gender in mosque". From the results of reference screening, 16 journals were found with topic classification based on timeline, school of thought and architectural objects. The results based on the timeline have stable graphs each year, while the religious stream and architectural objects are less stable because of their unavailability. Based on gender space architectural objects was found in 6 papers and only in the Syafi'i and Hanafi schools. Meanwhile, no references were found in the Maliki and Hambali schools. The Syafi'i School of Religion pays more attention to women in worship matters. However, not all apply the same principles because local community customs and customs hamper their application. Meanwhile, in the Hanafi School, gender space arrangements are more varied due to the influence of local culture, politics, and religious modernism.

Abstract

Urban transportation is experiencing rapid growth in line with the increasing population, particularly in cities like Bekasi. Despite advancements in transportation modes in Bekasi, the Bekasi City Bus Terminal, classified as a Type A passenger terminal, still struggles to meet the mobility needs of its residents. The terminal faces various challenges, including traffic congestion, insufficient security and comfort in circulation, limited supporting facilities, poor services, and high environmental pollution levels. Therefore, this research aims to propose a redesign for the Bekasi City Bus Terminal, incorporating sustainable architectural principles. The research methodology involves a theoretical review using content analysis. The study results emphasize the necessity for design criteria that facilitate efficient circulation, transition spaces, and economic functionality in the bus terminal. Consideration of environmental conservation principles and building energy efficiency is crucial in this redesign process.

Abstract

The research that has been conducted has concluded that many villages in Bali are likely to develop into more sustainable ecotourism. One of them is Peliatan Village in Ubud District. Based on the synthesis of ecotourism theories, there are six criteria for ecotourism development, including environmental, community participation, education, economics, socio-cultural, and institutional. The first focus of this research is to find out the importance of community participation as a criterion for ecotourism development. The second is to understand the degree of participation of the Peliatan village community in the development of ecotourism. This research is a mixed-method research, adopting AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) methods to form a hierarchical structure of ecotourism development criteria, in order to understand the priority of community participation as an ecotourism standard. The results show that the criterion of community participation ranks third (slightly more important, with a weight of 0.168) after the environmental standard (weight 0.281) and social culture (0.210). Residents of Peliatan Village participate in each of the activities in their village (planning, development, management, monitoring/evaluation), which plays a very important role in the development of Peliatan Village's ecotourism.

Abstract

Urban parks are integral components of Green Open Spaces (GOS) with a significant impact on community well-being. This study integrates urban parks with an active design approach to promote physical activity. The research aims to identify active design elements within Abhirama Park, located in Sidoarjo Regency. The choice of active design is based on previous research demonstrating its potential to encourage greater community engagement. The results of this identification and analysis can serve as a reference for future developments of Abhirama Park, with the goal of creating Green Open Spaces that stimulate physical activity in an era characterized by sedentary lifestyles driven by digital advancements. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method, involving naturalistic exploration and in-depth examination of the subject. Active design guidelines are used as a framework during the observation and interview processes. The findings reveal the presence of four active design aspects in Abhirama Park: Accessibility, Facilities, Activities, and Management. Each aspect plays a distinct role in promoting physical activity within the urban context.
