Ethical Lingua is an online academic journal published in February and August by Universitas Cokroaminoto Palopo and managed by the English Language Education study program. The journal publish scholarly articles on the scope of Language Teaching, Learning, and Assessment; Language Curriculum and Material Development; Linguistics and Applied Linguistics; Cultural Issues in Language Education; and Modern and Classic Literature Studies. <![CDATA[The aims of this research are to what extent the implementation of fun English learning in enhancing students’ vocabulary and to find out students’ interest toward the implementation of Fun English Learning to the students at remote school at Limbong. The students are thought in indoor class and outdoor class by applying fun English learning. The researcher used experimental research design, which applies pretest and post-test. The researcher will use two instruments namely vocabulary test and interview. The population of this research is the students at SMP 1 Limbong. There are 98 students was taken from three classes that are class 7, 8, and 9. The researcher will choose the eighth grade students, which consists of 20 students as sample. The results of this research are; 1) the used of fun English learning in teaching vocabulary improved the students’ achievement, 2) the students are interest in learning English by applying fun English learning, Most of them gave positive responses.]]>

Achievement in a target language relies not only on intellectual capacity, but also on the learnerâs attitudes towards language learning. Attitudes could be viewed as a tendency to respond positively or negatively towards a certain thing, idea, person, situation etc. The attitudes that the students should have are attitude towards the language, attitude towards learning the language, attitude towards the language teacher, and attitude towards school in general. This study focuses on discussing about encouraging students to have positive attitudes toward learning English.]]>

<![CDATA[This research is conducted to find out: (1) whether or not the use of Noddy cartoon is effective in improving the writing skill of the first year students of SMK Terpadu Mega Rezky Makassar and (2) the attitude of the first year students of SMK Terpadu Mega Rezky Makassar toward the use of Noddy cartoon in improving their writing skill. The research employs quasi-experimental method with two groups namely control and experimental groups. Each group consists of 30 students. The sample is chosen by applying cluster random sampling technique. The writer uses a test of writing and questionnaire in experimental group. The data obtained through the test is analyzed by using inferential statistic through SPSS version 22.0 program. The Likert-scale is used to analyze data of the studentâs response to the questionnaire. In conducting the research, the writer applies Noddy cartoon episodes as the medium in improving the studentsâ writing skill. The result of this research shows that the use of Noddy cartoon is effective in improving the writing skill achievements of the first year students of SMK Terpadu Mega Rezky Makassar. It is indicated by the significant difference between the result of post-test in the experimental and control groups. The mean score of post-test in the experimental group is 76.77, which is higher than the mean score of post-test in the control group which is only 65.97. Furthermore, the data that are collected from the questionnaire show that the students have positive attitude towards the use of Noddy cartoon in learning writing, which is in scale of 83.20 or categorized as positive.]]>

<![CDATA[In interaction between teachers and students, there are some approaches that the teachers usually apply in teaching process in the classroom but the case here is what kinds of approaches that the students can appropriate. The approach which is not appropriate in the teaching and learning process will have an impact on development of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor students themselves. One of the existing approaches in teaching is persuasive approach, in which this approach can convince the students to adopt the material. This research is qualitative research which uses discourse analysis to analyze the data that the researcher has found. The samples of this research are three classes of sixth grade of Elementary school. The quantities of this class is 25 people for every class and it has been taken in one of course in Makassar, namely JILC. Having done the research, the researcher found that the negative persuasive appeals that to be used in classes and it makes the negative impacts of the studentsâ motivation in teaching and learning process.]]>

<![CDATA[This study deals with enhancing students’ ability in writing descriptive text at the second semester of English students of Cokoaminoto Palopo University. This research is aimed to find out whether the use of scaffolding technique is effective in improving the students’ competence in writing descriptive text. The scope of the research is focused on scaffolding technique in improving writing descriptive text ability of students. The research used pre-experimental method. Population is the second year students of English Students of Cokroaminoto Palopo, the number of population are 240 students. It used random sampling method. The members of sample were 25 students. The research instrument were used collect data, namely descriptive writing (written test). There is significance difference before and after using scaffolding technique as a treatment. The researcher concluded that scaffolding technique is effective in teaching writing to the students because it can improve the students’ writing competence. The researcher applied t-test analysis. The result of data analysis shows that there is significant difference between the pre-test and the post-test. The researcher concluded that using of scaffolding technique is effective in teaching writing descriptive text to the students at the second year of English students of Cokroaminoto Palopo University.]]>

<![CDATA[The study is about the project to revise and re-evaluate the unit of Cross Cultural Understanding curriculum which is taught in the Akademi Bahasa Asing Ballikpapan. The unit is for fifth semester students. The project aimed to provide students' perspectives of cross cultural differences in the workplace with the materials and knowledge that suitable for workplace demands. The information was gained by distributing questionnaires to 2 teachers and 2 employers of multinational companies in Balikpapan. The investigations for teachers were focused on the content, learning activities and materials of the current curriculum. The investigations for the employers were focused on their perspectives on the cross cultural understanding taught in the higher education. The project used Nicholls' cycle model that will be a useful tool to regularly evaluate curriculum based on the situational analysis. As the result, there were some of materials of American business cultural encounter should be revised to meet the companies demands and additional table manners in cultural perspectives should be included in the curriculum. Therefore, the new curriculum will be applied by these materials as the demands of the workplace.]]>

<![CDATA[The objective of this research was to find out whether the use of integrated computer assisted media (ICAM) is effective to improve the vocabulary achievement of the second semester students of Cokroaminoto Palopo University. The population of this research was the second semester students of English department of Cokroaminoto Palopo University in academic year 2013/2014. The samples of this research were 60 students and they were placed into two groups: experimental and control group where each group consisted of 30 students. This research used cluster random sampling technique. The research data was collected by applying vocabulary test and it was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The result of this research was integrated computer assisted media (ICAM) can improve vocabulary achievement of the students of English department of Cokroaminoto Palopo University. It can be concluded that the use of ICAM in the teaching vocabulary is effective to be implemented in improving the students’ vocabulary achievement.]]>

<![CDATA[Register in Sociolinguistics is a form of language used for a special situation in a particular social setting, it also known as variety of language. In hotel industry, there are many kinds of English terms used by the staff both written and spoken. This study was designed to find out the English terms, the lexical meaning and the contextual meaning of the English special terms used by the staff of Front Office department in the Grand Clarion Hotel Makassar. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this study is the staff of Front Office department. The data were obtained through participant observation, semi-structured interview and review of the documents. The result of the study showed that the majority of terms used in Front Office department were in English. The researcher found that there were many kinds of the English terms used by the Front Office department in the Grand Clarion Hotel Makassar. In Front Office department, 85 (eighty five) English terms were found and 36 (thirty six) of them classified as the English special terms. English special terms have different meanings both lexical and contextual. These English terms in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is called register.]]>

<![CDATA[This is a pre-experimental research using one group pre-test and pos-test design, which aims at finding out the effects of Contextual Teaching and Learning approach in improving students’ ability in writing descriptive text at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sabbang. The population of this research is the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sabbang. The total number of the population is 149 of the all eleventh students. The researcher took 20 students as the sample from one class by using cluster sampling technique. This research employed writing test as the instrument of data collection. The result of this test is used to assess to what extent Contextual Teaching and Learning approach can improve the students’ ability in writing descriptive text. After several meetings, this research found out that the use of Contextual Teaching and Learning approach is significantly effective to improve the students’ ability in writing descriptive text. It is supported by looking at the mean score obtained by students through pre-test is 51.55 and post-test is 76.86.]]>
