Abstract

Pregnancy-induced hypertension often progresses to pre-eclampsia as one of the biggest contributors to maternal mortality. Mineral and nutritional factors have an important role in the etiology of pregnancy-induced hypertension, especially pre-eclampsia. A mineral factor associated with hypertension is calcium. This study attempts to analyze the relationship between calcium levels and the occurance of pregnancy-induced hypertension. A cross-sectional study design was used to measure or observe independent variables (calcium levels) and dependent variables (hypertension in pregnancy). The number of samples was 43 second-trimester pregnant women taken by consecutive sampling technique. This study used primary data by examining blood pressure and calcium levels contained in the blood serum of pregnant women. Univariate analysis results showed that 30% of pregnant women experienced pregnancy-induced hypertention, and 44% of pregnant women had insufficient calcium levels. The results of the bivariate analysis proved that there was a significant correlation between maternal blood calcium levels and the occurence of hypertension in second-trimester of pregnant women (p value 0,000).

Abstract

Education in preparation for childbirth and the postnatal period through antenatal classes has long been known and was first aimed at reducing anxiety and labor pain. Recently, education for preparation for childbirth and the postnatal period through antenatal classes is increasingly being promoted and its goals are also growing. However, there is no clear information about what forms of education for preparation for labor and the postnatal period in the antenatal class have been researched by experts. The study aimed to systematically map the research conducted in this area, as well as to identify existing gaps in knowledge. Scoping Review with reference to PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) by using three databases for article searches, which are MEDLINE, ProQuest and EBSCO. We found 18 relevant research articles which published 16 different education programs for labor preparation and postnatal period. The educational material presented includes preparation for childbirth, the postnatal period and decision making. The delivery methods used included the start time of education, the number of meeting sessions, the duration of the meeting, the use of a special room for, the number of members per session, the participation of couples in sessions, learning methods, routine exercises in class, implementation of exercises at home, educators or facilitators who convey, the implementation of visits to the delivery room, and the use of supporting information technology. Education preparation for labor and the postnatal period in the literature uses a variety of delivery methods and material topics. Existing research measures different outcomes and shows quite diverse effectiveness on labor and postnatal periods. The next researcher is expected to conduct research on education programs for childbirth preparation and the postnatal period by referring to the latest evidence based and using RCT research methods and a large sample size and multi-center.

A  sample of 38 families who had family members with mental disorders was selected for this study  by multistage random sampling. The dependent variable was mental disorders recurrence. The  independent variables were emotional expression and self-efficacy. The data were collected by  questionnaire and analyzed by logistic regression. The recurrence of mental disorders increased with high emotional expression (OR=  12.25; CI 95%= 1.65 to 90.96; p= 0.14) and poor self efficacy (OR= 7.42; CI 95%= 5.08 to  51.06; p=0.042).  The recurrence of mental disorders increases with high emotional expression and  poor self efficacy, it is hoped that health workers can provide psychoeducation so that the caregiver can provide care to family members with mental disorders.

Abstract

In 2019, the coverage of breastfeeding in Indonesia has yet to reach the target set by the government. The low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding will harm the baby, mother, family as well as the country. Rawat, et al (2018) stated that one of the causes which lead to the breastfeeding failure in the primiparous first week of childbirth is that the mother finds it difficult to get a proper breastfeeding latch and feels that her breast milk is not sufficient. Another study conducted by Jacobs, et al. proved that the majority of respondents felt that their milk production was low, so they decided to provide complementary milk. Oxytocin massage has shown to increase relaxation, induce more comfortable and high-quality sleep, reduce pain and stress and help to increase the oxytocin and prolactin hormone. This study aims to determine the family's participation in postnatal oxytocin massage during the COVID-19 pandemic and is categorized as a descriptive observational research. For this purpose, 70 postnatal mothers from Maternal and Child Health Centers and Independent Midwife located in Bantul, Sleman, and Gunung Kidul were taken as respondents. The data were collected from May until September 2020. The samples taken were family and postnatal women from the first day postnatal until third day who then were evaluated for up to 1 week. The results showed that family’s participation in conducting the oxytocin massage was mostly carried out by the husbands (91.4%). However, other family members were also recorded to participate including biological mothers (2.9%), mother-in-law (1.4%), and the participants’ sisters (4.3%). Thus, we can conclude that husband's participation is very important in giving postpanatal oxytocin massage during COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Postpartum mothers with an indication of episiotomy will experience a higher level of pain. This birth canal trauma is acute and is expected to recover in a short period of time, can be measured, and without serious complications. The aim of this study was to identify the healing process of postpartum maternal perineal wounds. The intervention was carried out on 31 postpartum mothers with the selection using purposive sampling technique. Maternity cool gel pad (MCGP) which was applied to the perineal wound care intervention on the 2nd and 3rd day after delivery showed the wound healing process was observed using the REEDA measuring instrument and analyzed using the T one sample test. The repair of the wound repair scale from the mean REEDA score (10.81 ± 2.98) occurred in all wounds of the study respondents at post intervention (5.32 ± 1.73). Maternity cool gel pad intervention assisted the wound healing process in post intervention data (P <0.005). The results of this study can be indicative of an inflammatory response locally in perineal wounds, but further research is needed to observe the impact of perineal wound healing with a combination of methods that can help evaluate the perineal wound repair process that can be done by mothers independently at home.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBreast cancer is the disease that many women fear the most. Breast cancer significantly affects the psychological states of the patients, including self-concept. Patients with breast cancer commonly experience a negative self-concept due to the disease and side effects of the treatment. However, problems of self-concept among patients with breast cancer are rarely investigated by nurses. Furthermore, no measurement tool specifically measures the self-concept of breast cancer patients. The purpose of this study was to examine the validity and reliability of the self-concept questionnaire. This study used a case study research design to measure the self-concept of breast cancer patients using a newly developed questionnaire, namely the Merlin Breast Cancer Self-Concept Questionnaire. This questionnaire will be tested on breast cancer patients undergoing treatment in the hospital. The result showed a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.909 for the validity and 0.500-0.790 for the reliability of the instrument. Merlin Breast Cancer Self-Concept Questionnaire was evident to be a valid and reliable instrument to measure self-concept among breast cancer patients. This questionnaire is feasible for use to measure self-concept among breast cancer patients. Implication for practice: This questionnaire will greatly help the clinic nurse in measuring the patient's self concept. Psychological problems especially self-concept can be examined to improve
