Abstract

The Pendawa farmer group located in Candirejo Village, Sibiru-biru, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra has processed cocoa beans into milk chocolate bars. The aims this activity is to find and increase the melting point temperature of milk chocolate bar products that have been produced by farmers. The low melting point causes the chocolate produced by the Pendawa farmer group to not last long and easily melts at room temperature in a short time. Some of the innovations the team provided were the addition of vegetable oil (coconut oil) and the addition of a tempering process before the chocolate was molded/frozen. The tempering process aims to change the shape of the crystals in chocolate. Based on observations, chocolate with coconut oil added has a good aroma and a shinier appearance compared to chocolate without coconut oil added. In addition, milk chocolate bar products with the addition of a tempering process have a higher melting point temperature than non-tempered products. Products with the tempering process also show a denser form than non-tempered chocolate bars.

Abstract

Deli Serdang is one of the largest centers in North Sumatra for cocoa commodities. Cocoa is strong life support for residents in Candi Rejo Village, Sibiru-Biru District, Deli Serdang Regency, especially for residents in the Pendawa Farmer Group. The abundance of cocoa harvest also causes an increase in the amount of cocoa husk waste. Still, some of the problems that arise cannot be overcome due to the limitations of science and technology. Until now, the abundant cocoa husk waste has just been piled up without any efficient processing. With training and socialization on making compost made from cocoa husk waste effectively and efficiently, the community and farmers in the Pendawa Farmer Group have increased their knowledge and ability to utilize cocoa shell waste as organic fertilizer independently. The use of compost made from cocoa husk waste is expected to increase soil fertility and create a bio-entrepreneurial spirit in the Pendawa Farmer Group.

Abstract

There are cassava farmers in Pendawa 1 Farmer Group located in Candi Rejo Village, Sibiru-biru District, Deli Serdang Regency. The resulting cassava is usually processed by women into Opak crackers (chips from flour with cassava). In the process of making Opak, it will produce cassava peel waste. The farmers have never treated the cassava peel waste, besides that cow dung waste is also left piled up near the cow cage. The main factor that underlies the farmer's not to carry out waste treatment because they do not have a place or area to process the waste. Thus, this problem must be addressed immediately so that the farmer group can carry out circular agriculture in agriculture and animal husbandry. The purpose of this activity is to form or develop a group of farmers who are economically and socially independent, help create peace and comfort in community life and improve the skills of members of the Pendawa 1 Farmer Group in managing waste into compost. The result of this activity is to build a simple composting house with a special design measuring 6m x 4m as an area to process waste into compost.

Abstract

"Activist Farm" is a sheep and goat farm that was established aimed at increasing the income of farmers and has the concept of integrating livestock whose target is to meet the protein needs of the community and the fulfillment of livestock seeds as a center for goat and sheep production in North Sumatra province. The limited knowledge and skills in raising livestock such us to procurement of feed ingredients, ration formulation and maintenance management encouraged coaching team from University of sumatera utara to provide assistance / coaches. Several technologies from research results of the university can be applied, so that they can motivated farmers to increase their business, increase farmer income and in order to support protein resilience during a pandemic. As a solution in overcoming this problem, it is necessary to increase knowledge and skills in the cultivation of goats, the introduction of alternative sources of feed ingredients (feed ingredients based on agricultural by-products, plantations, food processing industries) and livestock waste processing to support the productivity of goats to reduce production costs, making complete silage feed, making probiotics and formulating goat and sheep rations. The specific target of this activity is that farmers are able to determine potential alternative feed to be given for goats, are able to make probiotics for fermentation, complete fermentation and formulate rations, understand good farm management and efforts to improve biosecurity in supporting livestock health and the environment. The service method is packaged in the form of lectures, discussions, demonstrations, training and pilot projects. Service activities are summarized in a guidebook in the form of a Goat and Sheep Maintenance Management Module. From this activity, it is targeted that there will be cost efficiency (savings in animal feed costs because it can utilize alternative sources of feed ingredients), formulating and making independent concentrate feed, savings in the cost of purchasing probiotics and organic fertilizer fermentation methods.
