Abstract

Comics are popular among teenagers in which senior high school students included. One type of comics, digital comic, has recently become a global trend, which beneficial to be utilized as an effective learning media. In order to take benefits from this great opportunity, this research was aimed to develop a digital comic on immune system topic. This study was conducted at SMAN 13 Jakarta using research and development method. Samples were consisted of students and biology teacher class XI, media expert, and material expert. A total of six steps proceeded including need assesment, objective formulation, material development, instruments development, media development, and try-out and revision. During the try out test, all samples were involved as users. The product received a very good interpretation from all samples with feasibility ranged from 81,3-90,9%. This result implied that this digital comic was qualified as learning media on immune system topic for class XI.

Abstract

Web-based learning has been widely used as learning resources. Developing these learning resources is believed to provide beneficial for students. Therefore, this research was aimed to develop a web-based learning source for General Biology Course. It was developed by Joomla software version 1.5.6. This program was run and supported by Xampp version 1.6.1. in which Apache 2.2.4.. MySQL 5.0.37., and PHP version 5.2.1. were also included to offline program running support. The research was conducted on September – November 2012 in General Biology Course, Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Science, State University of Jakarta. Material contents developed in this web were limited to animal structure. Samples were consisted of students, media expert, and learning material expert. Data were obtained through questionnaires. According to students, the material classified as very good (82.5%), whether 5 five other components including content (79.48%), visual design (70.33%), structure and navigation (76.94%), and interaction (78.67%) were categorized as good. Based on media expert assessment, the web content was classified as very good (81.25%), while the other components including web material (75%), visual design (70%), structure and navigation (70.83%), and also interaction (80%) were categorized as good. Lastly, this product was assessed by the learning material expert who categorized good for the following components: web material (75%), content (78.13), visual design (75%), structure and navigation (79.19%). The only component which got fair score was interaction (50%). Although most of the components were classified as good, some aspects of this web must be repaired.

Abstract

Bilingual student worksheet in Biology Lessons was currently not available in SMAN 68. Such worksheet is useful for increasing student engagement during learning process, encouraging students to apply the knowledge into daily living activities, and also helping student to understand English in Biology. Therefore, this research was aimed to develop bilingual student worksheet with contextual approach on human reproductive system topic. It is held at SMAN 68 Jakarta on February to May 2012. This research and development consisted of three stages: need assessment, development, and feasibility test. The result of feasibility tests showed that 88.4% obtained from material expert, 80% from media expert, 95.5% from linguist expert, 85.14% from Biology teacher, 71.96% from the smaller group student, and 77.6% from the larger group student. Based on the results, it was concluded that the worksheet can be used as teaching material for senior high school student in Biology lesson on human reproductive system topic.

Abstract

Biotechnology includes topic about gene and nuclear cloning is a very challenging subject to study at high school. Without proper Media aid, misconception will more likely to occur among students. The use of Inquiry-based Interactive Multimedia was expected to reduce the misconception about cloning process since it is visualized more clearly. This study was aimed to measure slope misconception of student and to analyze the application of Inquiry-based Interactive Multimedia to minimize student misconception on Biotechnology subject. The research was conducted at MAN 8 Jakarta on May 2012 using a quasi experimental method and pretest-posttest control group design. A total of 40 science students were taken equally from IPA 1 and IPA 2 classes at grade 10 to become experimental and control groups. They were selected by simple random sampling. A test of multiple choice questions with five alternative answers was used as the study instrument. To detect for any misconception, the test result was measured by Certainty of Response Index (CRI). Using this technique, there were 8 % misconception found on the pre-test and 7% on the post-test. As the conclusion, the use of Inquiry-based Interactive Multimedia was effective to minimize student misconception on Biotechnology subject.

Abstract

Learning activities determines the achievement of learning aims and objectives. One of the objectives can be reflected in higher students learning result. The improvement may occur using Two Stay Two Stray Technique of Cooperative Learning Model since students are encouraged to learn together and help each other in groups. The research aimed to determine the effect of Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) technique of Cooperative Learning Model on Students Biology Learning Outcomes on the ecosystem topic. This research was carried out at SMAN 2 Tangerang on May to June 2012 using a quasi-experimental method. Two science classes at grade 10 were selected by purposive sampling technique, class X-7 as the experimental group and class X-8 as the control group. An overall of 36 students of each class was selected by simple random sampling. Data obtained by using instruments of multiple choice question test and affective Attitude Scale. The result of Normality testing of Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and homogeneity testing of F-test showed a normal distribution and homogenous data. The average Biology study result of experimental group was 79.1 while of control group was 74.3. Based on the result, it can be concluded that Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) technique of Cooperative Learning Model affected Students Biology Learning Outcomes.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the effect of the use of bilingual student worksheet toward students learning outcomes on the human reproductive system topic. This research was conducted at SMAN 68 Jakarta on April-May 2012. The method was quasi-experimental with posttest-only design. The Simple random sampling technique selected 30 students grade 11 of IPA 4 included in experimental group and another 30 students grade 11 of IPA 3 as control group. This research used instrument of multiple choice test with five alternative answers. Prerequisite Testing for normality of Kolmogorov Smirnov and homogeneity testing of F-test showed a normal distribution and homogenous data. The hypothesis testing on cognitive learning result using t-test at α = 0.05 indicated that tcount (2.35) > ttable (2.00) which rejected the H0, whether the hypothesis testing on affective learning result using t-test at α = 0.05 showed that t count (3.84) > t table (2.00) which rejected the H0. Based on the results, it can be concluded that there was an effect of using the bilingual student worksheet toward students learning outcomes on the human reproductive system topic.

Abstract

Diseases can be caused by pathogenic microorganism that appears due to unhygienic attitude. Hygiene attitude have to be integral part of human life. The increasing of hygiene attitude can be reached by continuous education. The right knowledge that can forms and increases hygiene attitude is microbiology. The aim of this research is to know the correlation between knowledge of microbiology and Biology Education Students’ Hygiene Attitude. It was conducted at Jurusan Biologi FMIPA UNJ on April-May 2012. The method of this research that used is descriptive method with survey technique. The samples of this research are 50 Biology education studentsof class 2008. Samples were taken by simple random sampling technique. Prerequsite tests that used were normality test of Kolmogorov-Smirnov by SPSS 16.0 and Test of Homogenity of Variances (levene statistic) by SPSS 16.0. Statistic test which used was nonparametric technique by correlation test of Spearman Rank by SPSS 16.0. Result of the research shows that there is correlation between knowledge of microbiology and Biology Education Students’ Hygiene Attitude.

Abstract

Inaccurate selection of learning method is believed to be one of factors causing low learning result on biology subject. This study conducted by action research method was aimed to find out the effect of cooperative learning type Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) on organ systems topic to increase biology learning result of 11th grade sciene student of SMAN 40 Jakarta in the first semester in academic years 2012/2013. Data obtained from cycle one and two showed that the average learning result increased from 73.10% to 85.80% along with the improvement on learning achievement increased from 61% to 94.4%. Increase result of several student activities assessed in the cycle 1 and 2 were also identified. Average percentage of overall student activity was slightly elevated from 75% to 86%. Similarly, better accomplishement in enthusiasm (53% to 92%), willingness to ask (38% to 81%), and team work (81% to 92%). Based on those result, it was concluded that the result of Biology learning on Organ System topic can be increased using cooperative learnig type STAD.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to know the influence of Simas eric (Skimming, Mind mapping, Questioning, Exploring, Writing, Communicating) cooperative learning model on difference gender on the XIth grade student’s metacognition skills of Biology in State Senior High School 6 Malang. This research was quasi-experimental with non-equivalent pretest posttest control group design. The sample used was XI MIA 1 and XI MIA 2 class of the State Senior High School 6 Malang. The data had been collected by observation of students’s metacognition skills. The data analysed by Anacova techniques showed that Simas eric learning model on difference gender effect on the XIth grade student’s metacognition skills in State Senior High School 6 Malang. The result of the research showed that Simas eric learning model influenced the XIth grade student’s metacognition skills, the difference gender and interaction of learning model and gender did not influence student’s metacognition skills.

Abstract

One of factors effecting biology learning result is a selective learning media. A proper media application will solve problems occurred during the learning process. This research was aimed to find out the effect of application of ular tangga game media on biology learning result of senior high school student on human reproductive system. It was conducted at SMA Negeri 99 Jakarta on April to May 2014 using a quasi-experimental method. Two groups of grade XI student selected by purposive sampling then divided into experimental and control group consisted of 30 students. Ular tangga media and powerpoint applied respectively in experimental and control group. The result of cognitive learning test was statistically tested using t-test with α = 0.05. Based on the calculation, it was found that the p value =0.002. Since p < α, the H0 was rejected. This result showed that there was an effect of ular tangga media application on Biology learning result of the topic. As the conclusion, ular tangga game media effected cognitive learning result of students at SMA Negeri 99 Jakarta.
