Abstract

The need for people and goods movement across regions have been increasing susbtantially over the years. Sea transportations plays pivotal role in allowing this trans-national movement.The ferry line connecting Langsa, Indonesia and Penang, Malaysia had been established to help people and good across borders, albeit no longer operating. This study aims to estimate trip generation and attraction between these ports and their surrounding areas, and suggest whether this ferry line should reoperate. In doing so, random forest was utilised alongside linear regression model. Random forest has been increasingly popular among researchers in making estimates or preditions, whether calculating numerical or categorical data. To develop both models, historical trip and socio-economics data were employed. It was found that Gross Domestic Regional Product (GDRP) and population significantly affect trip generation and attraction. Both variables shows positive effect on trip generation and attraction: an increase in either should increase trip generation and attraction. Similar to linear regression model, random forest model show an excellent predictive capability. With a sophisticated model incorporating more variables, it is expected that random forest should well exceed linear regression predicitve capability. As population and GDRP are expected to continue to grow, it is suggested that stakeholders should reoperate this Langsa-Penang ferry line.

Abstract

The concrete compressive strength in existing buildings can be determined by the destructive method (DM) and the non-destructive method (NDM). The non-destructive method can be carried out to determine the distribution of the compressive strength of concrete in structural elements, but the value given is not absolutely representative of the actual compressive strength of the concrete. To find out the actual compressive strength of concrete is to carry out destructive tests such as core drilling oncrete. In general, core concrete is not allowed to have reinforcement, but this is sometimes unavoidable. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the compressive strength of high-strength concrete due to the content of reinforcement in the concrete. This study used a concrete cylindrical specimen with a diameter of 10 cm with a variation of the ratio L/D = 1 and L/D = 2. One reinforcement was placed on 1/4 L and 1/2 L of each specimen horizontally with the number of specimens per variation being 5 specimens. The total number of cylindrical specimens was 30 specimens. In this study, specimens without reinforcement were also made as control specimens. Based on the results, it was found that the value of the reinforcement content factor (C2) was still relevant to be used for the L/D = 2 specimens because it still had a deviation below 5%. Meanwhile, for L/D = 1 multiplication with the value of C2 shows a deviation above 5%. The position of the reinforcement that was getting closer to the half height of the specimens decreases the compressive strength of high-strength concrete.

Abstract

Retrofits and reinforcements are needed in structures that have experienced a decline in performance to continue to meet their strength requirements. Reinforcement of reinforced concrete structures can use the method of strengthening with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) which is made from synthetic fibers. But now there is a new innovation, namely FRP which is made from natural fibers. The use of natural fibers as the basis for composite materials can reduce the negative impact on the environment because the manufacturing process is environmentally friendly and renewable when compared to synthetic-based FRP. Some natural fibers that have been explored and researched consist of bamboo fiber, bagasse, hemp, abaca, and several other fibers that have high tensile strength values. The purpose of this study was to examine the characteristics of natural fibers which include tensile strength and the effect of NFRP material on structural reinforcement by externally bonding methods from various references and also to study the failure modes that occur in the test object. Furthermore, it is presented in a literature regarding the bond strength between NFRP material and concrete. There are several studies on bond strength that have been collected and seen various differences between the studies on the bond strength. Most of the composite process is the attachment of composites to the concrete surface by the hand lay-up method.

Abstract

A pedestrian bridge is a structure linking a pedestrian or bike path over or around a major roadway, railway, or waterway. The truss bridge (TRB) and the bridge with a castellated beam (CBB) are the common models of the pedestrian bridge. Past studies have revealed the structural behavior of TRB and CBB, but the performances of both bridges have not yet been comparatively confirmed. This study examined the TRB and CBB structural performances to obtain the better bridge model due to applied loading. The research was started by establishing the bridge models and employing the load combinations. The analysis resulted in the internal forces and they were used to design the bridges. The design is referred to as the SNI-1729-2020. This research revealed that the TRB exhibited structural performances, i.e., deflection and internal force, better than those of the CBB. Nevertheless, due to the many steel members, the TRB presented a heavier bridge than the CBB.

Abstract

Planning a new urban area as an alternative to a new growth center in an area requires a special strategy in understanding the characteristics and potential of the area. Geographically, Samar Village Refinery Main Shiite District Bener Meriah regency has the opportunity to become a new urban area because it is directly adjacent to North Aceh and East Aceh regencies. The purpose of this study is to examine spatial interaction and the selection of business sectors that will be developed in the Syiah Utama Subdistrict area. The methods used in this research are quantitative methods using Gravity Model theory analysis, Stop Point Theory analysis, and Static Location Quotient (SLQ) analysis. The results of the analysis showed that the potential for faster growth of Syiah Utama Subdistrict towards North Aceh Regency with spatial interaction of 10,496,116 and a functional area limit of 4,199.35 hectares, while the selection of suitable business field sectors developed as base / potential sectors are the agriculture sector, forestry sector, fisheries sector, construction sector, financial services sector, and insurance.

Abstract

Structural strengthening is needed in buildings that experience a decrease in serviceability, inappropriate quality of existing concrete, and unexpected natural events such as earthquakes. One method that has been widely used for structural strengthening is external restraint using synthetic Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP). External restraints on concrete can significantly increase the strength and ductility of concrete. The use of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) material requires a relatively expensive cost and a production process that is not environmentally friendly, so alternative Natural Fiber Reinforced Polymer (NFRP) materials are needed that are environmentally friendly, renewable, and relatively cheaper, such as jute, hemp, cotton, abaca and basalt. This research review aims to determine the behavior of confined concrete with external Natural Fiber Reinforced Polymer (NFRP) and the increase in compressive strength due to confinement. The test is carried out by providing an axial load on the concrete test object which is restrained by NFRP. NFRP restrained specimens are made by wrapping the entire concrete in a circle using natural fibers and adhesives. The results obtained from this research review are the compressive strength of confined concrete using several types of natural fibers such as jute, hemp, cotton, abaca and basalt, it is found that the type of fiber and the number of layers of NFRP affect its compressive strength. NFRP showed a significant restraining effect on increasing the compressive strength and increasing the ductility of the concrete. The increase in strength and ductility will increase with an increase in the number of layers of Natural Fiber Reinforced Polymer (NFRP).

Abstract

Banda Aceh City Qanun Number 2 of 2018 concerning the Regional Spatial Plan for the City of Banda Aceh, there is a city design in the development of bicycle lanes. The current phenomenon can be seen in that the bicycle lane has changed its function from a place for selling street vendors, into a parking lot, and is traversed by motorized vehicles. The purpose of this study was to determine the internal and external factors as well as the strategy for developing a one-lane bicycle lane in the regional spatial plan of Banda Aceh City. The method used in this research is a mixed method research method using SWOT (Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis. The results showed that the internal factor for Strengths with the highest rating of 3.03 is that cycling is environmentally friendly and fun transportation, and the internal factor for Weaknesses with the highest rating of 3.18 is that the Department of Transportation has not supervised the use of bicycle lanes properly. consistent. External factors for opportunities with the highest rating of 3.56 are the development of bicycle lanes that can make cyclists walk according to their paths to reduce the rate of traffic accidents on the highway, external factors for threats with the highest rating of 3, 75 is a bicycle lane widely used for trading by street vendors. The strategy for developing a one-lane bicycle lane in Banda Aceh City in the regional spatial plan based on the SWOT diagram is in Quadrant IV with the Strengths - Weaknesses value of - 0.28 and the Opportunities - Threats value is - 0.02 so that the strategy that can be applied for lane development The one-lane bicycle is a Weaknesses-Threats strategy, there is a need for a regulation that can improve the performance of employees at the Banda Aceh City Transportation Service so that they can monitor the use of bicycle lanes as well as sanctions for businesses or people who use bicycle lanes for other activities to disturb the comfort of cyclists.

Abstract

At present, Kota Jantho sub-district has only one representative tourist attraction with visitors' desires, which is Jantho Panorama Park, which was only developed in 2021. Therefore, the tourist attraction Krueng Jalin that is not properly managed must be developed into an eco-tourism object, so that Jantho City has multiple tourism alternatives that are representative of the population and can have an impact on the economic improvement of the region. This study aims to determine the strategy for developing ecotourism facilities and infrastructure in Krueng Jalin. This study uses a qualitative method approach through interviews and quantitative methods through questionnaires. Resource people and respondents targeted to up to 8 people. Data analysis used Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats (SWOT). The results show that the Krueng Jalin ecotourism facility and infrastructure development strategy that needs to be implemented is to develop the potential for ecotourism packages and propose ecotourism facility and infrastructure development activities in Krueng Jalin to the regional government to participate in Local communities are involved in the planning and construction of ecotourism facilities and infrastructure in Krueng Jalin. Krueng Jalin, established an ecotourism management agency, developed decent work programs or business opportunities for local communities, involved the community in ecotourism management, established zones and visiting hours, provided environmental education to local communities and visitors, arranged income sharing and ecotourism marketing products.

Abstract

Lean construction is a construction implementation method that can minimize waste and maximize value. In the implementation of building construction projects, especially in Banda Aceh City, there are still many contractors who stick to conventional implementation methods, although the government has introduced lean building methods. Traditional methods tend to produce waste and neglected value. This study aims to determine the dominant lean construction factors applied to building construction projects in Banda Aceh City. Construction using funds from the City's Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBK) years of 2015-2021. Respondents in this study were targeted at project managers/construction managers from medium and high-skilled contractors in Aceh province with a population of 1,610 companies. A proportionally stratified random sample is used as the sampling method and 165 companies were selected as samples. The data analysis technique used descriptive statistics, validity test, reliability test, and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) using Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) software. The results showed that the lean construction factors applied to building construction projects in Banda Aceh City included 7 factors namely the implementation method, material control, supply chain, time management, documentation, teamwork, and communication factors with a  variance (percentage of application) of 61.770%. The dominant lean construction factor applied to building construction projects in Banda Aceh is the implementation method factor, with a variance of 17.593%.

Abstract

Reinforcement and repair of reinforced concrete structures using Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites have been widely used. However, the high price is one of the obstacles to applying it. Utilization of natural fiber as a Natural Fiber Reinforced Polymer (NFRP) composite material is an alternative because, in addition to its abundant availability in nature, natural fiber also has low specific gravity, is environmentally friendly, and has a more economical production cost. In this study, natural fibers were used as a substitute for synthetic polymer fibers for strengthening and repairing reinforced concrete structures. This study aims to determine the bond strength between concrete and NFRP. The benefit of this research is to provide an overview of the behavior of the bonding strength of NFRP so that it can be applied to the reinforcement and repair of reinforced concrete structures. The bond strength behavior between concrete and NFRP was tested experimentally. The parameters used were the type of natural fiber (abaka, ramie, pineapple, Samia's silk), the type of adhesive (epoxy, polyester, thixotropic epoxy), and the number of layers of fiber. The test object used the form of a beam (100x100x300) mm and has a single reinforcement of 10 mm in the middle of the cross-section. The width of the NFRP is 50 mm with a bond length of 120 mm. Strain gauges are used on NFRP every 50 mm. In addition, strain gauges are also installed on reinforcement and concrete. A result, NFRP bonding can increase the tensile strength capacity of reinforced concrete beams. Bonding of type-b abaca fiber composite with polyester adhesive is the composite that gives the most significant increase in tensile strength capacity. The Beams with three-layer type-b abaka composite bonded with polyester adhesive experienced the highest increase in tensile strength capacity reaching 47.25%. The results of this study indicate the potential of NFRP as a retrofitting method and further research is needed so that it can be applied to reinforced concrete structures.
