Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach in mathematics learning tools for fraction materials based on traditional foods in elementary schools. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design involving a fifth-grade teacher and elementary school students. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The findings revealed that the implementation of CRT through traditional food-based mathematics learning created more contextual, meaningful, and inclusive learning experiences. Traditional foods such as kue lapis, lemper, and apem helped students understand fraction concepts more concretely through cultural contexts closely related to their daily lives. The implementation of CRT also increased students’ engagement, classroom interaction, confidence, collaboration, and appreciation of local culture. In addition, teachers shifted their pedagogical role from information providers to facilitators who connected mathematical concepts with students’ cultural experiences. However, several challenges were identified, including limited instructional time, teachers’ readiness in integrating local culture, and limited culturally responsive learning resources. The novelty of this study lies in integrating culturally responsive pedagogy with traditional food-based mathematics learning tools specifically for fraction materials in elementary schools. This study contributes theoretically to the development of culturally responsive mathematics pedagogy and practically provides an alternative contextual mathematics learning model for elementary education.

Abstract

Among the most historically embedded faith-based educational institutions in the Muslim world, Indonesian Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) collectively enroll over four million students across nearly forty thousand establishments. Yet despite their deep social and pedagogical significance, most pesantren operate under persistent financial fragility, relying heavily on inconsistent tuition fees, charitable donations, and modest state allocations conditions that fundamentally undermine their long-term institutional viability. Productive waqf (wakaf produktif), an endowment mechanism whereby dedicated assets are actively managed through commercial activity to generate recurring income, has increasingly gained attention as a structurally sound response to this chronic underfunding. This article presents a comparative examination of productive waqf management practices across selected Indonesian pesantren, with particular attention to institutional configurations, governance arrangements, asset deployment strategies, and financial performance. Employing qualitative case study methodology alongside documentary analysis, the research draws on evidence from financially high-performing institutions to evaluate effective practices and their potential applicability within less-resourced pesantren contexts. The findings reveal that sustainable financial outcomes are most strongly associated with professionally structured nazhir governance, formal legal certification of waqf assets, and diversified endowment portfolios. Theoretically, this study advances scholarship at the intersection of Islamic social finance and educational management by offering a comparative governance framework with broader relevance to Islamic philanthropic finance.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and reconstruct the concept of ukhuwah (brotherhood) in the Qur’an as a foundation for building harmonious social life within a multicultural society. The background of this research lies in the gap between the ideal values of brotherhood in the Qur’an and the contemporary social reality, which is still marked by conflict, intolerance, and social polarization. This research employs a qualitative approach based on library research, using a thematic exegesis (tafsir maudhu’i) method by collecting and analyzing Qur’anic verses related to the concept of ukhuwah comprehensively. The findings reveal that ukhuwah in the Qur’an has an integrative meaning encompassing theological, social, and humanitarian dimensions, manifested in three main forms: ukhuwwah Islamiyah (Islamic brotherhood), ukhuwwah insaniyah (universal human brotherhood), and ukhuwwah wathaniyah (national brotherhood). Linguistically, the use of various terms such as ikhwah, ikhwan, and akhuhum reflects the depth of brotherhood, including emotional bonds, collective solidarity, and moral responsibility. Furthermore, core values such as rahmah (compassion), wahdah (unity), and ta‘awun (mutual cooperation) serve as the foundation for fostering inclusive and civilized social relations. In the context of a multicultural society, the concept of ukhuwah holds significant relevance as an instrument for promoting social harmony, preventing conflict, and strengthening solidarity across differences. Therefore, reconstructing the concept of ukhuwah in a contextual manner is essential so that it functions not only as a normative doctrine but also as a practical solution to contemporary social challenges.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the era of digital transformation has prompted changes in the learning assessment system, including in Islamic Religious Education (PAI). This research aims to analyze the transformation of PAI learning assessment in the AI era, identify opportunities and challenges in its implementation, and examine its pedagogical implications on the learning process. The research uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with the PRISMA approach. Data was obtained from the databases of ERIC, Scopus, DOAJ, Garuda, and SINTA in the 2021–2025 publication range. Of the 298 articles identified, 18 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results of the study show that the integration of AI in PAI assessment is able to increase the efficiency, objectivity, and personalization of assessments through the use of learning analytics, adaptive assessment, automated scoring, and digital learning platforms. AI also assists teachers in providing feedback more quickly and systematically. However, the implementation of AI still faces challenges in the form of low digital literacy, limited infrastructure, the risk of academic plagiarism, as well as ethical issues and the protection of student data. Therefore, the application of AI in PAI assessment needs to be directed at strengthening humanistic, ethical, and spiritual values according to the goals of Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strengthening of productive zakat and waqf governance through a holistic-integrative Islamic economic approach in Indonesia. The background of this study is based on the substantial potential of zakat and waqf that has not been optimally realized due to weak governance and the gap between normative, rational, and empirical dimensions in practice, particularly within Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKI). This research employs a qualitative literature review method with a thematic content analysis approach, drawing on recent scholarly articles and policy documents. The findings indicate that zakat functions as a short-term redistributive instrument, while productive waqf serves as a long-term development instrument, both of which are complementary. In addition, digitalization enhances transparency and efficiency; however, its effectiveness depends on the quality of governance. The study also finds that zakat and waqf are aligned with maqasid al-shariah and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and that knowledge integration within PTKI provides an important epistemological foundation for their management. The novelty of this research lies in the development of a holistic-integrative Islamic economic model that connects revelation, reason, and social reality within a unified systemic framework. This study concludes that the integration of productive zakat and waqf can improve the effectiveness of socio-economic development, although further empirical validation is required.
