Abstract

Abstract

UT Radio, an internet-based radio broadcast service, serves as a multifaceted educational platform, offering general educational content, course tutorials, information dissemination about UT, and engaging educational entertainment. This study investigates the evolving landscape of UT Radio, which now includes live streaming on the UTTV YouTube channel and aligns with the podcasting trend. Podcasts, with their captivating packaging and focused episode content, have gained popularity as a medium for information dissemination. The research employs qualitative methods to identify effective practices and elucidate the experiences of lecturers using UT-Radio for teaching and learning. Subjects include lecturers, course materials, and UT-Radio teamwork. Data collection involves observation sheets, interviews, and documentation, with 248 lecturers participating. The questionnaire evaluates broadcaster performance and UT-Radio management, demonstrating high validity and reliability (rα broadcaster performance = .96, rα management of UT Radio = .94, Cronbach's Alpha = 0.79). Interviews with five informants reveal positive perceptions among lecturers, highlighting UT Radio's role in facilitating the learning process. While obstacles exist, such as limited tutor ability to create instructional media and varying usage of multimedia tools, positive enforcement and management practices are evident. Challenges, including internet constraints during remote broadcasts, are acknowledged, and suggestions for more interactive communication with students are emphasized. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the dynamics of UT Radio as an educational tool, emphasizing the need for innovative learning media development to enhance the overall educational experience.

Abstract

The advancement of distance learning in education is significant. Professionals and workers can study remotely without having to take time off from work to attend classes. Low academic self-management, on the other hand, is a common barrier faced by students enrolled in distance education programs. Therefore, Research on academic self-management and its determinants have been carried out. Respondents in this study were 180 (19-45 years old) early childhood department program students who were also teachers and lived in urban, suburban, and rural settings conducted by accidental sampling by online questionnaire. Mezzo's self-management scale and Schutte's brief emotional scale (BEIS) were used to measure academic self-management and emotional intelligence, respectively. Regression analysis was used to process the data. There are respondents from rural, suburban, and urban locations. The study's findings indicate that emotional intelligence has a 32.1% impact on academic self-management, with utilization dimension (38%) and emotional control dimensions (39,6%) having the largest effects. The findings of this study are expected to lead to new recommendations for managing emotional intelligence in the Open University student orientation program.

Abstract

This paper aims to provide an overview of utlisations of PJJ Corner, a feature of Universitas Terbuka’s (UT) digital library, developed through digital preservation projects to support a reading culture in the context of distance education. There are 156 digital references and 466 book collections of distance learning. This paper examines the data on the use of digital preservation in the context of distance learning in the academic context at UT. A total of 125 respondents participated in completing a questionnaire regarding digital preservation for UT's digital library. The results show that 98% of respondents already know about UT's digital library products; 80% of respondents know that there is a PJJ Corner catalog; and only 31% have accessed and utilised the PJJ Corner. Most of the access in the PJJ Corner aims to add insight related to PJJ by 33%, become a reference source by 26%, and be used for research purposes by 16%. The findings highlight the significant role of PJJ Corner in fostering reading interest and supporting academic activities, although its popularity remains lower compared to other features like Ruang Baca Virtual and UTTV. Furthermore, the PJJ Corner is making a good contribution to the development of distance learning in Indonesia through the reading activities that seek information about distance learning fields. The academic community believes that PJJ Corners can assess various reading sources online anytime and anywhere including the most recent resources and current information, as a result of the digital preservation of distance learning reference materials. Furthermore, the digital preservation of distance learning references helps them increase their reading activity for knowledge and research purposes, reference sources, and teaching materials. This study underscores the need for further promotion to enhance the utilization of PJJ Corner and the importance of digital preservation in ensuring long-term accessibility to educational materials. The results are expected to guide other institutions in developing similar initiatives to strengthen the reading culture and knowledge accessibility within academic communities.

Abstract

In light of the burgeoning advancement of digital technologies and the subsequent rise of online courses, this study seeks to explore the commercial potential of an online course titled "Introduction to Instructional Design." This course leverages the innovative approach of microlearning, breaking down complex concepts into manageable modules. Given the growing demand for digital learning tools, the commercial viability of such a course is becoming increasingly significant, thereby presenting a promising avenue for educators, institutions, and course developers. The study employed the ADDIE model for course creation, which entails Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. This approach ensures a comprehensive analysis of the learner's needs and course objectives. The developed course comprises a curriculum of 10 modules, each containing six submodules, alongside video and text-based learning materials. Expert review yielded a weighted mean of 3.42, denoting the course as 'effective.' The findings underline the relevance and potential profitability of such a course in the current digital learning landscape.
