Abstract

The online tutorials for undergraduatestudents at Universitas Terbuka has 30% of contributions to the grade of the final exam, which is why students are expected not to depend solely on independent learning without any supporting facilities. With 339 undergraduate students of SIPAS NON-TTM PGSD and PGPAUD, the researcher used the unified theories of acceptance and use of technology to analyze students acceptance and technology usage, and using multiple regression as the statistical tools to test out the influence of performace expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions towards the behavioral intention of undergraduate students of PGSD and PGPAUD in using online tutorials.It was found that facilitating conditions had the most significant influence towards behavioral intention, while performance expectancy was right after. Lower influence was found in social influence, while the effort expectancy doesn't have any significant effect on behavioral intention of undergraduate students of PGSD and PGPAUD in using online tutroials.

Abstract

Vocational high school in Indonesia is familiar with the concept of dual system education program. There are two places of learning such as school-based learning and work-based learning. A few vocational education institutions have claimed that during carry out work-based learning, they ask students to master some competencies through self-regulated learning without a learning environment that planned. Therefore, this article aims to give an integrative learning design framework for online learning as an effort to guide educators and instructional designers in designing and developing online learning environment that meet with the students need. Shifting roles of educators and instructional designers in online learning, each component within integrative learning design framework for online learning, as well as the features of online learning model are discussed here. So that, educators and instructional designers who want to design online learning model could not only avoid mistakes but also reduce the failure.

Abstract

Artikel ini menyajikan hasil studi selama tiga semester mengenai kepuasan mahasiswa dengan instruksi daring di Universitas Terbuka, Indonesia. Makalah ini membahas bagaimana kinerja tutor mempengaruhi persepsi mahasiswa dalam belajar secara daring. Penelitian ini mempelajari lebih jauh dari penelitian sebelumnya tentang kepuasan mahasiswa dengan e-learning. Peneliti melakukan serangkaian survei selama tiga semester. Empat puluh satu siswa berpartisipasi dalam studi ini. Secara keseluruhan, siswa menilai instruktur online sebagai cukup memuaskan. Tingkat kepuasan mahasiswa agribisnis dengan tutor online di UT terutama puas (63%). Lebih dari sembilan belas persen memiliki tingkat yang sangat puas. Berdasarkan analisis komponen utama, penelitian ini mengungkapkan enam struktur dari tingkat kepuasan dengan tutor online; (1) perantara diskusi (62,20%), (2) strategi tutorial (79,18%), (3) umpan balik pada pendapat siswa (84,69%), (4) tetap pada jadwal (89,12%), (5) membuat ringkasan (92,24%), dan (6) menyediakan bahan pembelajaran yang menarik (94,64%). This article presents the results of a three-semester study of undergraduate students’ level of satisfaction with online instruction at Universitas Terbuka, Indonesia. The paper discusses how tutor performance affect student’s perception of online learning.The study expands on earlier research into student satisfaction with e-learning. Researcher conducted a series of surveys over three academic semester. Forty-one students participated in the study. Responses were consistent throughout, although there were some differences noted in the level of student satisfaction with their experience. Overall, students rated their online instructor as moderately satisfactory.The satisfaction level of agribusiness students with online tutor at UTwas mainly satisfied (63%). More than nineteen percent had a very satisfied level.Based on principal component analysis, this study revealed six structures of satisfaction level with online tutor; (1) moderating discussion (62,20%), (2) tutorial strategy (79,18%), (3) feedback on student's opinion (84,69%), (4) keep on schedule (89,12%), (5) making summary (92,24%), and (6) providing attractive learning material (94,64%).

Abstract

Group administrators Learning Pendas’s students is an important part of the system for implementing distance learning services in each Open University Distance Learning Program Unit. However, the description and research related to the role of the board of education officers is still very limited. To achieve this, descriptive qualitative research has been carried out with participatory action research (PAR) strategies for all PGSD and PG-PAUD student management and service activities carried out by pokar administrators throughout the Banten region under the auspices of UPBJJ-UT Serang. The results of the study showed that the administrators of the pendas program had a role in the implementation of distance learning system services at UT Serang UPBJJ especially in promotional activities, new student recruitment, New Student Study Orientation, distribution of teaching materials, PKP / PKM tutorials and compulsory and examination and Diploma Submission Ceremony (UPI).

Abstract

Common diseases mostly occur due to lack of basic health information and knowledge to public at large. Therefore, basic health information and knowledge is very much important to reduce the outbreaks of different diseases especially in rural communities which is possible through proper education. Education is a natural and an inborn part of any community or society. High quality and healthy volunteers can be generated in a society by right education with full support of any kind of facility.The objective of this paper is to gather and identify information and knowledge about basic health from students and teachers. In this paper, first we study current basic health (information & knowledge) situation of teachers and students in high schools of District Swat (70% mountain rural areas and 30% urban areas), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan. Secondly, find out the willingness of high school teachers and students for basic health information and knowledge using information communication technology (ICT) i.e. through a proposed “Virtual Education for Basic Health (VEBH)” model at high school level. For this purpose a pilot research survey was conducted in seven tehsils of district Swat which contained 119 high schools, including 77 male high schools and 42 female high schools.The respondents are willing to learn basic health information and knowledge through virtual and commented that it will be better for rural mountainous areas of Swat especially for female health. VEBH model will make the students aware about common diseases and ensure future healthy society.

Abstract

SMS technology with its characteristics is a potential mobile-device technology to be implemented as media in distance education, either as academic administration or as learning support service. Thi sarticle aims to explain about design and develop a model of learning support service (tutorial system) based on SMS technology by using latihan mandiri (LM=independent exercise) as its source. The results showed that Gammu is reliable enough to be used as a back-end SMS gateway, but it must be an adjunct to GampSMS which based on PPONSEL and Ajax as its front-end. In order to fulfil Agribusiness Study Program needs, there are some modifications of GampSMS function are done. Some advancement of GampSMS functions are request for students grade, SMS-LM feedback, group discussion in a course in each Regional Office and SMS to tutors email. SMS tutorials are well-liked and accepted by students who live in rural and remote locations, and they much loved up-reminder of information provided by Head of Agribusiness Study Program, and request other learning formats such as summaries and othres; but the SMS Services is rejected by students who live in urban area where Internet facilities are good and they are already computer literate; because they feel its very annoying since they can access all information through Internet easily. SMS for academic service should be kept available, and it is primarily designated for remote and isolated students, because they do not have any other means to obtain learning assistance. To improve the quality of student learning, creativity in implementing SMS tutorial must be explored. Teknologi SMS berdasarkan karakteristiknya merupakan teknologi komunikasi perangkat bergerak yang amat potensial untuk digunakan sebagai sarana/media pengajaran dalam PTJJ, baik sebagai sarana pengelolaan administrasi akademik ataupun pemberian layanan akademik yang berupa layanan bantuan belajar. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan tentang perancangan dan pengembangan suatu model layanan bantuan belajar yang berbasis teknologi SMS dengan menggunakan Latihan Mandiri sebagai sumber bahan ajarnya. Pengembangan sistem SMS ini juga melibatkan seluruh mahasiswa S1 Agribisnis yang teregistrasi di tahun 2011 semester 1, sebagai peserta dan responden untuk proses evaluasi program. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perangkat lunak bernama Gammu cukup handal untuk digunakan sebagai pintu gerbang layanan SMS, namun harus di sertai dengan pengggunaan perangkat lunak GampSMS yang berbasis PPONSEL dan Ajax sebagai aplikasi tatap mukanya. Modifikasi terhadap beberapa fungsi pada GampSMS dapat dilakukan untuk memenuhi keperluan spesifik yang dibutuhkan oleh program studi Agribisnis-UT. Beberapa fungsi modifikasi tambahan tersebut adalah SMS permintaan nilai, SMS-LM pemrosesan umpan balik, diskusi kelompok dalam matakuliah/UPBJJ, dan SMS ke email pengampu. Sistem tutorial melalui SMS amat disukai dan diterima oleh mahasiswa yang berdomisili di pedesaan dan lokasi terpencil, dan mereka amat menyukai fasilitas sistem pengingatan yang diberikan oleh Ka. Prodi Agribisnis, dan meminta format pembelajaran yang lain seperti ringkasan dan sebagainya. Namun sistem ini ditolak oleh mahasiswa yang sudah melek komputer dan berada di perkotaan dengan fasilitas Internet yang baik, karena dirasa mengganggu fungsi ponsel mereka. Penerapan layanan SMS untuk layanan bantuan belajar sebaiknya tetap diberikan, karena bermanfaat bagi mahasiswa yang tidak punya sarana lain untuk memperoleh layanan bantuan belajar, dan perlu adanya kreativitas lain dalam penerapannya guna meningkatkan kualitas belajar mahasiswa.

Abstract

Tutorial online (tuton) pada pendidikan jarak jauh seharusnya memungkinkan proses belajar yang asinkronus. Saat ini, sekitar 60% dari seluruh mata kuliah yang ditawarkan di Universitas Terbuka sudah dilengkapi dengan tuton. Tingkat partisipasi pada tuton, yang dicerminkan dari paling tidak ada satu mahasiswa yang registrasi pada tuton mata kuliah tersebut, mencapai 98%. Meskipun demikian, tingginya prosentase ini tidak otomatis mencerminkan tingginya tingkat partisipasi mahasiswa pada aktivitas tuton di mata kuliah. Agar dapat berpartisipasi dalam tuton, mahasiswa disyaratkan untuk melakukan registrasi mata kuliah dan mengaktifkan fasilitas tuton. Dalam artikel ini, dilaporkan hasil analisis terhadap aktivitas mahasiswa pada dua kelas tuton (kelas A dan kelas B) untuk mata kuliah Filsafat Ilmu yang ditawarkan di Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan pada semester pertama tahun 2012. Data memperlihatkan bahwa seluruh mahasiswa sudah mengaktifkan tuton tetapi hanya 50% -80% mahasiswa yang aktif dalam tuton. Sementara itu, hanya 60%-75% mahasiswa yang paling tidak pernah satu kali login pada tuton, 30%-48% aktif berdiskusi, dan 20%-72% mengirimkan tugas. Data ini menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa belum sepenuhnya memanfaatkan tuton. Wawancara dengan peserta tuton memperlihatkan bahwa kesulitan pada koneksi internet dan ketidakbiasaan terhadap sistem yang digunakan merupakan dua kendala utama bagi peserta untuk aktif dalam tuton. Online tutorial in open and distance learning is supposed to provide asynchronous learning process. At present, around 60% of all courses offered by Universitas Terbuka are complemented with online tutorials. The participation rate for the course complemented with online tutorials which reflected with at least one student login in the online tutorials is high, 95-98%. However, this percentage does not guarantee that participation in the online tutorials is equally high. In order for students to be able to participate in the online tutorials, they have to first register the course and activate the UT online facilities. To analyze student activities in online online tutorials, data from two online tutorial classes in Philosophy of Science online tutorials offered in the first and second semester of 2012 at Department of Education are used. The data showed that all of the students have activated the online tutorials facilities but only 50%-80% of the students were actively engaged in the online tutorials. Furthermore, only 60%-75% students were at least login the online tutorials once in the eight week period, 30%-48% students engaged in discussion, and 40%-72% submitted assignments. This findings show that students have not taken full advantage of the online tutorials. Interviews with the students showed that difficulties in the internet connection and unfamiliarity with the system are two main constrains for student to be actively engage in the online tutorial.

Abstract

Salah satu jenis tutorial yang dikembangkan Universitas Terbuka (UT) adalah tutorial online, yaitu bentuk alternatif tutorial yang mempercepat proses interaksi antara mahasiswa dengan tutor. Tujuan penulisan artikel adalah menganalisis upaya untuk meningkatkan aksesibilitas dan intensitas mahasiswa dalam tutorial online. Responden penelitian adalah mahasiswa Program Studi Agribisnis FMIPA-UT yang dipilih dengan sengaja berdasarkan tingkat keaktifan dalam tutorial online. Teridentifikasi ada 90 mahasiswa yang aktif, dan dikirimkan kuesioner kepada mereka. Jumlah kuesioner yang telah diisi dan dikirim kembali adalah 38 kuesioner. Kuesioner dikirimkan kepada responden melalui pos, e-mail, dan disisipkan dalam tutorial online. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode sensus, data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan regresi berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aksesibilitas dan intensitas mahasiswa dalam tutorial onlineadalah rendah, ditunjukkan dengan jumlah waktu akses < 1,7 jam per minggu, dan frekuensi akses (1-11 jam per minggu). Artinya, responden belum memanfaatkan tutorial online dengan optimum sebagai media pembelajaran. Sebagian besar responden mempunyai interaksi yang sedang. Mereka lebih banyak terfokus pada bagian utama dalam tutorial online, yaitu forum diskusi, sementara beberapa bagian lain dalam tutorial online belum dimanfaatkan. Upaya untuk meningkatkan aksesibilitas dan intensitas mahasiswa dalam tutorial online adalah: 1) meningkatkan sosialisasi pelaksanaan tutorial online kepada mahasiswa; 2) mengembangkan materi inisiasi yang menarik; 3) pembekalan tutor; 4) kerja sama UT dengan penyedia jaringan internet di daerah untuk memperluas akses mahasiswa terhadap tutorial online. Universitas Terbuka (UT) - The Indonesia Open University - provides online tutorial as one of the techniques for improving interaction process between students and tutors. This article is aimed at analyzing efforts which can improve the students accessibility and intensity to the online tutorial. Respondents were purposively selected based on the level of students activity on the online tutorial at Agribusiness Study Program. Of the 90 people who were sent the questionnaire, 38 people returned the completed questionnaire. Questionnaires were distributed to students by way of postal mail, e-mail, and inserted on the online tutorial program. Data were collected by census method, analysed by descriptive and multiple regression analysis. The findings indicated that the students accessibility and intensity to the online tutorial is still low, indicated by the number of low access time (<1.7 hours per week) and low access frequency (1-11 hours per week). The respondents were not use online tutorial program optimally as a medium of learning. At most, respondents had only medium interaction in the online tutorial. They were mostly focused on the main part of the online tutorial, e.g. the discussion forum, while many other parts were less explored. Efforts to improve the students accessibility and intensity to the online tutorials are: 1) Improving socialization of online tutorial; 2) developing interesting initiation materials; 3) tutor briefing for improvement; and 4) cooperation of UT with internet service providers in the region to expand alternative access of online tutorials for the students.

Abstract

Communication process needs to be built in an online-tutorial to liven up students interaction and participation in a discussion forum. One of the strategies tutors can do to enhance student participation in providing feedback in a discussion forum is by giving additional questions. This paper is the result of research in the form of action research on online tutorial in the subject of Fisheries Resources Management 2009.1 period that is conducted by providing two questions in five initiations, and one question in three initiations. The purpose of question giving is to obtain information about the differences in the number of student responses who were given one question and two questions. In addition, this article also examines students and experts perceptions on the quality of tutor questions and the result of expert assessment on the quality of student responses. The assessment is based on the comprehension, substance and benefits. Research results showed that the number of responses from student given with two questions is higher and significantly different compared with the number of responses from students given one question. In general, the first question and the second question assessed by students and experts are of good quality. The second question is assessed as an applied question, while the first question is considered as a theoretical question. The second question is considered to have better quality than the first question in the aspects of easiness/simplicity to understand, relevance to up to date issues on the field and the ability to train students in finding the best solution of a problem in the field of fisheries. Proses komunikasi dalam tutorial online perlu dibangun untuk menghidupkan interaksi dan partisipasi mahasiswa dalam forum diskusi. Salah satu strategi yang dapat dilakukan tutor untuk meningkatkan partisipasi mahasiswa dalam memberikan tanggapan di forum diskusi adalah melalui pemberian tambahan pertanyaan. Tulisan ini merupakan hasil penelitian dalam bentuk action research terhadap kegiatan tutorial online pada mata kuliah Manajemen Sumber Daya Perikanan masa 2009.1 yang telah dilakukan dengan menerapkan pemberian dua pertanyaan di lima inisiasi dan satu pertanyaan di tiga inisiasi. Tujuan pemberian pertanyaan adalah untuk mendapatkan informasi tentang perbedaan jumlah tanggapan mahasiswa yang diberi satu pertanyaan dan dua pertanyaan. Selain itu, artikel ini juga mengkaji persepsi mahasiswa dan pakar terhadap kualitas pertanyaan tutor dan hasil penilaian pakar terhadap kualitas tanggapan mahasiswa. Penilaian didasarkan pada ketercernaan, substansi dan manfaatnya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan jumlah tanggapan mahasiswa yang diberi dua pertanyaan lebih tinggi dan nyata berbeda dibanding jumlah tanggapan mahasiswa yang diberi satu pertanyaan. Secara umum, pertanyaan pertama dan pertanyaan kedua dinilai mahasiswa dan pakar memiliki kualitas yang baik. Pertanyaan kedua dinilai merupakan pertanyaan terapan, sedangkan pertanyaan pertama dinilai sebagai pertanyaan yang bersifat teori. Pertanyaan kedua dinilai memiliki kualitas yang lebih baik dibanding pertanyaan pertama dalam aspek kemudahan untuk dipahami, kerelevanan dengan masalah yang up to date yang terjadi di lapangan dan kemampuan untuk melatih mahasiswa dalam mencarikan solusi terbaik dari suatu permasalahan di bidang perikanan.

Abstract

Agribusiness Study Program at Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Sciences, Univeritas Terbuka, has several practical courses. Practical work is mandatory and must be followed by every student. Formative evaluation of the implementation of practical work conducted in order to identify the characteristics of students participated in the practical work and to obtain some input and feedback from students about the quality of the implemetation of practical work that has ever done. This article describes the results of such of formative evaluation, especially in term of the students' perceptions of the quality of practical manual, the quality of the practical work implementation in the field, as well as the obstacles faced. Eighty students from the entire 402 Agribusiness Study Program students who took the practical course at semester 2011.2 or 2012.1, from UPBJJ-UT Serang (Java) and UPBJJ-UT Pontianak (outside Java) were selected purposively. Only 53 out of 80 students who are willing to become informants of this evaluation .Evaluation results show that the characteristics of the students participating in practical work generally younger age, more women, residing far from UPBJJ-UT, has been working and educated at the high school. Most of students (over 80%) perceived the quality of practical guide as complete and clear in accordance with course competencies. This high quality of practical guide demonstrated by compliance of practical substances with the substance of learning materials (86.79%); completeness of practical guide component (84.90%), clarity of information in the practical guide (75.85%), and compliance of the substance of the practical guide with course substance, objectives and practical procedures (71.70%). Most of students too (81.76% ) perceived the implementation of practical work as very good and unhindered . The students felt that the implementation of practical work run well because it is supported by the meaningfulness of practical guide (86.79%), adequacy and affordability of practical work location (91.15%), ease of practical work procedures (92.45%), availability of equipment and practical materials ( 92.45%), ease of documentation of practical activities (94.34%), the availability and suitability of the educational background of the practical work instructors (94.34%), as well as good skills of the instructors in managing practical work (90.10%). While the lack of good quality of practical observation instruments and non standardized practical work financing is considered by students as factors that hinder the practical feasibility. Program Studi Agribisnis FMIPA-Universitas Terbuka memiliki beberapa mata kuliah berpraktikum. Praktikum bersifat wajib dan harus diikuti oleh setiap mahasiswa. Evaluasi formatif terhadap penyelenggaraan praktikum dilaksanakan dengan maksud mengidentifikasi karakteristik mahasiwa peserta praktikum dan mendapatkan masukan serta umpan balik dari mahasiswa tentang praktikum yang pernah dilakukannya. Artikel ini menjelaskan hasil evaluasi formatif terhadap penyelengaraan praktikum tersebut, terutama persepsi mahasiswa terhadap kualitas panduan praktikum, kualitas keterlaksanan praktikum di lapangan, serta hambatan yang dihadapi. Delapan puluh orang mahasiswa dari keseluruhan 402 orang mahasiswa PS Agribisnis yang menempuh praktikum pada semester 2011.2 atau 2012.1 di UPBJJ-UT Serang (Jawa) dan UPBJJ-UT Pontianak (Luar Jawa) dipilih secara purposive dan hanya 53 orang mahasiswa yang bersedia menjadi informan evaluasi ini. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa karakteristik mahasiswa peserta praktikum umumnya berumur muda, lebih banyak perempuan, bertempat tinggal jauh dari UPBJJ-UT, sudah bekerja dan berpendidikan setingkat SMA. Kualitas panduan praktikum dipersepsikan lengkap, jelas, dan sesuai dengan kompetensi mata kuliah oleh sebagian besar mahasiswa (lebih dari 80%). Baiknya kualitas panduan praktikum tersebut ditunjukkan oleh keseuaian substansi materi praktikum dengan materi BMP (86,79%); kelengkapan komponen panduan praktikum (84,90%), kejelasan informasi dalam panduan praktikum (75,85%); dan kesesuaian substansi panduan praktikum dengan substansi MK, tujuan dan langkah-langkah praktikum (71,70%). Kualitas pelaksanaan praktikum dipersepsikan sangat baik dan tanpa hambatan oleh 81,76% mahasiswa. Keterlaksanaan praktikum berjalan dengan sangat baik karena ditunjang oleh kebermaknaan panduan praktikum (86,79%), kememadaian dan keterjangkauan tempat praktikum (91,15%), kemudahan langkah-langkah pelaksanaan praktikum (92,45%), ketersediaan alat dan bahan praktikum (92,45%), kemudahan pendokumentasian kegiatan praktikum (94,34%), ketersediaan dan kesesuaian latar belakang pendidikan instruktur (94,34%), serta baiknya keterampilan instruktur dalam mengelola praktikum (90,10%). Sementara kurang baiknya kualitas instrumen pengamatan praktikum dan tidak bakunya pembiayaan praktikum dianggap oleh mahasiswa sebagai faktor yang menghambat keterlaksanaan praktikum.
