Abstract

This article analyzes the collaboration between teachers and parents through distance learning in natural science education and analyzes the role of elementary school teachers. The method used was a survey with a sample of 48 student parents. Data analysis used quantitative analysis, which emphasized the influence of the teacher's and parents’ role on the successful natural science learning at school for school-age children. Data analysis showed that the correlation value between the teacher's role variable and students’ learning outcomes was 0.635 and the t-count value was higher than the t-table. Hence, it could be said that there was an influence between the teacher's role and the student’s success in the classroom. The correlation value of the parent's role on students’ learning success was 0.375 and the t-count value was 2.582, which meant that it was higher than the t-table. Therefore, it could be ascertained that the influence of the parent's role on students’ success in learning was significant. The results of the measurements indicated that there was an influence of the role of teachers and parents on students’ success in school-age children's education in natural science learning. Understanding of scientific concepts was still rigid by following reference books, limited tools, materials, and time, and the implementation of science concepts did not yet refer to the environment of school-age children. Based on the results, it could be resumed that the collaboration of teachers and parents needed to be improved in accordance with the teaching purposes of natural science learning subjects for school-age children to improve online and distance learning.

Abstract

This article discusses a study about students’ learning activities and learning outcomes through the Discovery Learning model. The implementation of the Discovery Learning model can improve individual discovery abilities and make the learning activity passive into active. The research was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with a research design model of Kemmis and Mc. Taggart. The research was conducted at SDN 11 Mandau. The population involved 21 sixth-grade students, which consisted of 11 male and 10 female students. The research used quantitative descriptive analysis. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, and evaluation tests at the end of the cycle. In the pre-cycle, the criteria for students’ learning activities were 38.09%. After implementing the Discovery Learning model, there was an improvement. In the first cycle, the criteria for students’ activities were 76.19%, and in the second cycle, students’ activity was 95.23% active to follow the learning process. Whilst, students’ learning outcomes in the pre-cycle were obtained at 42.85% with students’ completeness of 65.25. In Cycle I, it was obtained that students’ completeness was 71.42% with an average score of 75.50. In Cycle II, students’ learning completeness increased to 90.47% with an average of 84.25. On this occasion, the implementation of the Discovery Learning method in natural science learning subjects could increase students’ activities and learning outcomes in the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This article reports the effect of the STAD-typed cooperative learning model on students' mathematics learning outcomes in class V of SDN 040529 Ajibuhara Tiga Panah Karo in the academic year of 2020/2021. The research approach used in this article was quantitative. The sampling technique used was saturated sampling and involved a number of 31 students. The results indicated that students’ learning outcomes using the STAD model were categorized as very good with an average score of 80.64. It was achieved the normality testing with a significance value of 0.20, thus, 0.20 > 0.05 from the data of class V was normally distributed. In the correlation testing, the correlation coefficient was 0.371 with a significance of 0.040, which means rcount (0.371) > rtable (0.355). Hence, there was a positive correlation between the STAD model and students' mathematics learning outcomes, which was 2.150 > 1.826. Thus, Ha is accepted. It shows that there was a positive and significant effect of the STAD learning model on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

COVID-19 has spread all over the world and made all human activities limited. Social distance has been applied as a precaution against virus contagion and also applied in the learning activities. Online learning is applied as a learning method during the pandemic, but there are some obstacles occurred like a low ability to supervise and observe students’ progress when teachers conveyed character building for students. The research in this article is to analyze teachers’ strategies to apply character building through online learning methods and analyze teachers’ outcomes measurement to evaluate students’ character improvement. The research used a descriptive qualitative method with a study case design. The result showed that teachers’ strategies to apply character building through online learning methods are (1) using virtual communication media, (2) giving good examples or becoming a good role model for students, (3) doing intensive training and adaptation, and (4) maximizing the synergy between parents and teachers. Teachers’ outcome measurement to evaluate students’ character improvement could be seen from (1) the observation by the learning subject teachers and homeroom teachers and (2) students’ kindness reports from school counsellors and the school rules department. A recommendation for the next researcher is about the improvement of students’ character after implementing online learning at schools.

Abstract

This article discusses the students’ mathematics learning outcomes by using the Realistic Mathematics Education learning model for the fifth-grade students of SD Kartika 1-2 Medan and describes the obstacles faced by using the Realistic Mathematics Education learning model to improve students’ mathematics learning outcomes. The results indicated that there was an improvement of the fifth-grade students’ learning outcomes on Mathematics learning subjects at SD Kartika 1-2 Medan. It was proven from the research outcomes conducted on the pretest, students who achieved a maximum score were 5 students or 21.73%, while students who did not complete were 18 students or 78.27%. After the research was continued in the first cycle, students who achieved a complete score were 14 students or 60.86%, while students who did not complete were 9 students or 39.14%. Related to this, there was an improvement in the first cycle compared to the pre-test. Nevertheless, it did not qualify predetermined completeness category. Hence, it was continued to the second cycle, students who achieved a complete score were 20 students or 86.95%, while students who did not complete were 3 students or 13.05%. Thus, there was an improvement in cycle II compared to cycle I and had qualified the predetermined completeness. In addition, the teachers’ activities in the first cycle of observation achieved an average of 60%, and in the second cycle, it increased to 78%. Meanwhile, students’ activities in the learning process achieved 58%, and in the second cycle, it increased to 84%.
