Abstract

The problem underlying this study stems from students’ low IPAS learning outcomes, where the class-wide learning achievement has not yet reached the targets set by the school. In addition, the learning process still tends to be teacher-centered and does not yet utilize learning media capable of connecting the material to students’ real-life experiences. This study aims to describe the implementation of meaningful learning through the Contextual Teaching and Learning model, supported by animated videos, to improve elementary school students’ IPAS learning outcomes. The research method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles in the fifth-grade class at UPTD SD Negeri 4 Bireuen with a sample size of 25 students. Based on the research results, in Cycle I, an average score of 69.2 was obtained with a class-wide mastery rate of 56%, where 14 students were deemed to have mastered the material and 11 students had not. After implementing instructional improvements in Cycle II, the average score increased to 87 with a class-wide mastery rate of 88%, meaning 22 students were deemed to have mastered the material and 3 students had not. In addition, teacher activity increased from 85% to 96%, student activity increased from 84% to 91%, and student response reached 93.81%, falling into the “very good” category. Thus, meaningful learning through the Contextual Teaching and Learning model aided by animated videos can improve elementary school students’ learning outcomes in IPAS.

Abstract

The education system is required to adapt to technological advancements. The demands of 21st-century competencies also emphasize the importance of having 4C skills (Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity). One of the skills that needs special attention is critical thinking skills. The results of the 2022 PISA survey show that Indonesia's PISA scores have declined compared to 2018. The improvement of critical thinking skills is supported by the use of an appropriate learning model, namely Problem Based Learning. This research aims to produce PBL-based E-LKPD on biodiversity material to enhance students' critical thinking skills, which is deemed effective. The development was carried out using the ADDIE model (analyze, design, development, implementation, evaluation). E-LKPD was tested on a limited basis with 36 tenth-grade students from SMA Negeri 9 Surabaya. Data were obtained through the results of pre-tests and post-tests based on five critical thinking indicators, which were then analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. The five critical thinking indicators practiced in the E-LKPD, pre-test, and post-test include interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, and explanation. The results of the study showed that the effectiveness of E-LKPD obtained an n-gain score of 0.92, which is included in the high improvement category, so that PBL-based E-LKPD is considered effective in improving students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential for navigating the challenges of the 21st century. However, PISA study results indicate that the critical thinking skills of students in Indonesia remain low. One approach to fostering these skills is the development of innovative teaching materials, specifically Problem-Based Learning (PBL)-based Electronic Student Worksheets (E-LKPD). This study aimed to develop a PBL-based E-LKPD on the digestive system to train the critical thinking skills of 11th-grade high school students. The research employed the 4D development model, comprising four stages: Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The study evaluated three parameters: validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Validity was assessed by education and subject matter experts; practicality was determined through observations of lesson implementation and student response questionnaires; and effectiveness was measured by the achievement of critical thinking indicators. Research instruments included validation sheets, observation sheets, response questionnaires, and test questions. A limited trial involved 36 students from class XI F-11 at SMA Negeri 3 Sidoarjo. The resulting product features eight key components: Bio-Orientation, Bio-Organizer, Bio-Experiment, Bio-Activity, Bio-Anaeva, Bio-Quiz, Bio-Explore, and Bio-Presentation. The results showed an E-LKPD validity score of 95.83% (highly valid); lesson implementation and student response scores of 99.3% and 100%, respectively (highly practical); and critical thinking indicator achievement rates of 34.8% on the pre-test and 87.8% on the post-test, with an N-Gain score of 0.82 (high category). In conclusion, the PBL-based E-LKPD is deemed suitable as a teaching material for fostering critical thinking skills, based on its demonstrated validity, practicality, and effectiveness.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary schools remains a major challenge, particularly in promoting students' active participation, collaborative learning, and meaningful mathematical engagement within the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum. Although educational game-based learning and the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model have been widely reported to improve learning outcomes and motivation, limited studies have examined how these approaches shape classroom practices during their implementation. This study aimed to analyze mathematics learning problems through a practice-based investigation of classroom instruction using the Cerdasionaire Game integrated with the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model at SD Negeri 008 Sepaku. A qualitative case study design was employed involving one principal, one fourth-grade teacher, and eighteen fourth-grade students selected purposively. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, and document analysis and were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, comprising data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data trustworthiness was established through source and methodological triangulation. The findings indicate that mathematics instruction was initially characterized by teacher-centered practices, limited collaborative interaction, and low student engagement. However, the implementation of the Cerdasionaire Game integrated with TGT transformed classroom practices by fostering active participation, collaborative problem-solving, constructive academic competition, and greater confidence in communicating mathematical ideas. This study contributes empirical evidence by demonstrating how educational games integrated with cooperative learning reshape classroom interaction and support student-centered mathematics instruction in elementary schools, thereby extending current research beyond learning outcomes toward classroom practice.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the metacognitive abilities of students with high self-efficacy in solving plane geometry problems. The research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive research design. The research subject was one seventh-grade junior high school student identified as having high self-efficacy based on the results of a self-efficacy questionnaire. Data were collected through a self-efficacy questionnaire, a plane geometry problem-solving test, and semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through technique triangulation by comparing the results of the written test and interviews. The findings revealed that students with high self-efficacy demonstrated strong metacognitive abilities across the three indicators: planning, monitoring, and evaluating. In the planning stage, the student was able to understand the problem, identify known and required information, and develop a systematic problem-solving strategy. During the monitoring stage, the student effectively controlled the problem-solving process by reviewing each calculation, identifying and correcting errors, and modifying strategies when necessary. In the evaluating stage, the student rechecked the final answers, drew appropriate conclusions, and assessed the effectiveness of the strategies used. These findings indicate that high self-efficacy contributes positively to students' ability to regulate their thinking processes while solving mathematical problems. Students with strong self-confidence tend to be more systematic in planning, more careful in monitoring their work, and more reflective in evaluating the outcomes. Therefore, self-efficacy is an important factor in supporting the development of students' metacognitive abilities in solving plane geometry problems effectively, systematically, and accurately.
