Abstract

Comprehension is the purpose of reading. Without it the reader wastes her time because she is not processing and remembering the text. It is vital to the education of students to implement strategies to develop reading comprehension skills. The students with literacy problems who do not receive help are in danger of becoming adults with limited employment opportunities and other life challenges. The purpose for reading and the type of text determine the specific knowledge, skills, and strategies that readers need to apply to achieve comprehension. Reading comprehension is thus much more than decoding. Reading comprehension result is when the reader knows which skills and strategies are appropriate for the type of text, and understand how to apply them to accomplish the reading purpose. The objective of this research is to know and describe the influence of using Short Story towards students’ ability in comprehending narrative text. This research was conducted by using Experimental method. The total population of this research was 150 students in 5 classes. The samples of this research were 2 classes. In taking the sample, the writer used cluster random sampling technique. In getting the data, the writer used multiple choices test with 40 item test. Based on data analysis and hypothesis, the writer found that the average score of students’ ability in comprehending narrative text who are taught by using Short Story was higher than that of those who are taught through conventional technique (= 71.58 >= 57.42). Therefore the calculation of ttest = 7.01 was higher than ttable with significance 5% = 1.67 and significance 1% =2.39. The writer then concludes that there is a significant influence of Short Story towards students’ ability in comprehending narrative text for the students at the second semester of the eighth class at SMP Negeri I Sumber Rejo Tanggamus in 2012/2013.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the lexical cohesion used in students’ writing, and to find out the highest frequency of lexical ties in students’ writing. In conducting the research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative method. The researcher uses a documentation to collect the data. The data are the students’ scientific writing tasks on fifth semester at STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses the procedure such as recording the data in the data card, categorizing the data based on the types of lexical cohesion, summing up the total number of lexical cohesion frequencies, describing the data and drawing conclusion. The result shows that the types of lexical cohesion in students’ writing are repetition, synonymy, antonymy, and meronymy. Repetiton becomes the prominent types of lexical cohesion used in students’ writing. Meanwhile the hyponymy is the lowest frequency of occurrence in their writings.

Abstract

The function of the right hemisphere is for alertness, recognition of conditions, eye contact, socialization, emotional control, intuition, turn-taking, nonverbal, pragmatic, visiospasial, holistic thinking, art, and creativity. While the left hemisphere function is to speak, read, write, count, and linear-analytical thinking. The process of lateralization or specialization of the hemispheres greatly influences the development of speech (language acquisition). In the process of development, all normal children or experiencing a reasonable growth acquire a language, the first language or the mother tongue in the first years of life. Furthermore, the development of speech and language is an important indicator of children's progress and are very sensitive to disturbances in the development of other areas, ie, areas of cognitive, sensory-motor, psychological, and emotional. Child language acquisition consists of several stages, i.e.: (1) babbling; (2) one-word stages (holofrastis); (3) two-word phases; and (4) telegraphic speech.

Abstract

The main problem in the history learning process seen in grade X students of Adiguna High School Bandar Lampung shows that the learning strategy used has not improved the students' learning motivation. The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of positive reinforcement on the learning outcomes of Adiguna high school students in Bandar Lampung lesson year 2017/2018. In the implementation of this study the authors use experimental methods, with a sample of 37. Sampling technique in this study using cluster random sampling technique, data collection techniques using the test. To test the hypothesis, the authors in this study using the formula ttes. From the research results obtained thit value = 4.45> ttab = 2,00 means it can be concluded "There is influence Positive Reinforcement on the learning outcomes of students of class X SMA Adiguna Bandar Lampung Lesson 2017/2018". The average of learning outcomes in the experimental class is 76.64, while the mean of the learning achievement in the control class is 67.21, it can be concluded from the research result that is the average of the students' learning outcomes in the learning of applying positive reinforcement higher than the average. average learning outcomes of students in learning apply negative reinforcement.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the changes of women‟s roles on how women were potrayed in the past and how they are potrayed today, especially in four influential media. Therefore, the question rised in this paper is “What are the changes of women‟s roles on how women were potrayed in the past and how they are potrayed today, especially in four influential media?”. This paper shows that there are many proofs showing changes and improvements of women‟s roles on how women were potrayed in the media in the past, and how they are potrayed today, especially in four influential media such as women‟s magazines, television and print media cartoons and fairy tales. When women are depicted in the media, they they are tipically subjected to a greater degree of phisical appearance and more rigid standard of beauty which they are expected to embody. It argued that the central media messages concerning women is that women‟s primary value lies in their physical appearance.

Abstract

Pembelajaran matematika dengan pembelajaran matematika realistik, memberi peluang kepada siswa untuk aktif mengkonstruksi pengetahuan atau mereinvent pengetahuan matematika. Dalam proses belajar mengajar sesuai dengan sifat matematika realistik yang berbasis masalah, maka strategi umum pembelajaran meliputi pemberian masalah untuk dipecahkan siswa, pemberian kesempatan siswa untuk mengkonstruksi sendiri pemecahan masalah dan presentasi hasil yang disusul dengan diskusi. Untuk itu situasi pembelajaran sedapat mungkin dibuat menyenangkan, komunikasi dan interaksi yang baik antara guru dan siswa. Hal ini sangat sesuai dengan potensi yang harus dikembangkan secara optimal dan tuntutan kegiatan siswa dalam proses belajar matematika sesuai dengan KBK (Kurikulum Berbasis Kompetensi) kurikulum 2004.Dan dengan pembelajaran matematika realistik ini diharapkan dapat menimbulkan minat sekaligus kreatifitas dan motivasi siswa dalam mempelajari matematika sehingga siswa dapat memperoleh manfaat maksimal baik proses maupun hasil belajarnya.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain data on how far the relationship between motivation to learn with the learning outcomes of students in school. Method used is the correlation with quantitative approach. Can be said there is a positive relationship between motivation to learn with the learning outcomes of students in school by 14.11%. Therefore, to improve student learning outcomes in advance should increase learning motivation.

Abstract

The improving result economic studies learning through cooperative model Learning Contract in X grade student of Vocational High School Yadika Natar. The purpose of this research was to improve the economic learning through cooperative model Learning Contract type in X grade SMK Yadika Natar Lampung Selatan. This research uses classroom action research techniques. The research was conducted in two cycles. Subject of this study is the X grade student of vocational high school Yadika Natar. Which has 30 student. Data sources come from teachers, students dan researchers. Data collection techniques using observation, testing, interview, and documentations. The validity of data using triangulation methods technique and other sources. Analysis of the data used by the qualitative and quantitative analysis. The result show that the use of cooperative learning “Learning Contract” can improve the economic studies learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to know the study of sociolinguistic in linguistics. Sociolinguistic is study that is concerned in the relationship between language and society with the goal of a better understanding of the structure of language and of how languages function in communication. In language, there is a code. A code is a system that is used by people to communicate with each other. When people want to talk each other, they have to choose a particular code to express their feeling. Related of it, this paper is written based on two points of code namely code switching and code mixing as a means of language variation in sociolinguistic, and it is used in daily activities. Person sometimes mix or switch their language when they communicate to the others both in bilingualism and multilingualism. Bilingual (bilingualism) is a person who uses two languages, while multilingual (multilingualism) is a person who uses more than a language. In other words, there is a situation where speaker deliberately change a code being used, namely code switching from one language to another language, or the situation where the people mix two languages when they speak or communicate with the other.

Abstract

The problem raised in this research relates to the level of students' ability in determining the main idea of ​​a discourse. Students are still not fully able to discover, express and explain the main ideas contained in the discourse. Students still tend not to understand the characteristics of a discourse. The purpose of research to determine the ability to determine the main idea of ​​a discourse of VII class students even semester SMP Negeri 12 Bandar Lampung. To achieve the goal, used descriptive research method. The population of this study is all students of class VII even semester SMP Negeri 12 Bandar Lampung, which amounted to 272 students. Sample of this research as much as 11% of population amount, this research sample as many as 11% * 272 = 30 students. The research instrument used to obtain data is in the form of a written test by way of assigning students to find the main idea in a discourse. Based on the data analysis and discussion in this study obtained the conclusion that the ability to determine the main idea for the whole aspect or indicator pertained enough with the percentage 63.26%.
