Abstract

Education serves not only as a medium for transferring knowledge but also as a process of shaping values and character that are manifested in real behavior. One of the fundamental character traits that must be nurtured in higher education is discipline, particularly in the context of globalization and the competitive tourism industry that demands professionalism. This study aims to analyze the achievement of students’ discipline character in the Cultural Tourism Department through the Travel Industry Practicum, based on five key indicators: obedience, compliance, loyalty, regularity, and orderliness. The research employed a quantitative descriptive approach using a questionnaire instrument adapted from Patmawati (2013). The population consisted of 75 students from the 2021 cohort, with a sample of 43 respondents determined through Slovin’s formula and convenience sampling. The findings reveal that during the initial phase of the practicum, several weaknesses were observed in students’ discipline, such as tardiness, uniform neatness, and consistency in task completion. However, after completing the practicum over one semester, all discipline indicators showed significant improvement, reaching the “very good” category with an average score of 4,66. These results indicate that practical field experience combined with institutional guidance effectively strengthens students’ internalization of discipline values. In conclusion, the Travel Industry Practicum is not only a vehicle for applying academic theory, but also serves as an effective strategy for character building. The results of this study make an important contribution to strengthening Thomas Lickona's noble character education framework through its application in higher education, particularly in the field of tourism. These findings can serve as a strategic basis for policy formulation and curriculum development oriented towards the formation of disciplinary character, so that higher education can produce graduates who are not only academically competent but also excel in work ethic and character values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of Augmented Reality (AR) technology as an interactive learning medium and its impact on student learning outcomes at SMK Nusatama Padang majoring in Accounting. The background of this study is based on the importance of learning innovations that can improve the understanding of abstract accounting concepts through interactive visualization. The research method used was a quasi-experimental with a pretes-postes control group design. The research subjects consisted of two classes: the experimental class using AR media and the control class using conventional methods. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent t-tests. The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference between the learning outcomes of students in the experimental class and the control class with an average post-test score of 77.4 for the experimental class or 80% of students categorized as having completed and an average for the control class of 63.28 or 40% of students categorized as having completed. These results showed that the average for the experimental class was higher than the class that did not use AR media. These findings indicate that the application of AR technology can effectively improve students' conceptual understanding and learning interest. In addition, the use of AR also provides a more engaging and immersive learning experience, which encourages active student involvement in the learning process. Based on these results, it can be concluded that AR technology is a potential alternative learning medium for application in vocational education, particularly in accounting learning. This study recommends the integration of AR into the curriculum and teacher training to optimize its use in the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

Language is an essential part of cultural heritage that represents the values, knowledge, and collective identity of a society. This study aims to examine the forms and meanings of lexicons used in the coronation tradition of Datu Rajamuda in the Sultanate of Sumbawa as representations of culture, value systems, and power structures within the Samawa community. It also seeks to reveal how language functions as a medium for preserving local values and strengthening collective identity within the royal cultural context. The study employs ethnolinguistic and anthropolinguistic approaches with a descriptive qualitative method through observation, in-depth interviews, and field documentation at Bala Kuning Palace, Sumbawa. The data were analyzed interactively through stages of data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing to obtain a deep cultural understanding. The findings reveal 35 lexical data, consisting of 9 single-word forms and 26 phrase forms, each carrying lexical and cultural meanings. Lexicons such as kantar, badong, ai kadewa, and cilo datu rajamuda function not only as tools of communication but also as symbols embodying philosophical, moral, and spiritual values that reflect legitimacy of power and the social order of the Sultanate of Sumbawa. Each lexicon demonstrates the integration between language, custom, and value systems that have been inherited across generations. Culturally, the lexicons in the Datu Rajamuda coronation tradition reflect religious, social, and moral values such as loyalty, empathy, responsibility, and purity as the foundation of traditional leadership. This research emphasizes that language in the Samawa cultural context plays a vital role as a medium for preserving identity, social legitimacy, and character education based on local wisdom. Thus, the Datu Rajamuda coronation tradition is not merely a customary ritual but a manifestation of harmony between culture, religion, and social order that sustains the continuity and cohesion of the Samawa community amid modern changes.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role and optimization of teachers’ linguistic competence in shaping and developing language attitudes and character among early childhood learners. The data were collected from teachers’ spoken interactions with children during learning activities, transcripts of in-depth interviews with teachers and principals, classroom observation notes, and lesson plans and teaching materials. The informants were selected using purposive sampling. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation, while data analysis employed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that teachers’ linguistic competence plays an essential role in shaping children’s language attitudes and character, particularly by using language that instills politeness, discipline, and mutual respect. Effective linguistic competence also supports character development through appropriate word choice, tone, and responses that foster positive communication, respect, and self-confidence. The optimization of teachers’ linguistic competence is supported by continuous professional training, a conducive school environment, and principal support that strengthens teachers’ ability to use language effectively in early childhood education.
