Abstract

Public demand for cayenne pepper is high. To continue to meet public demand, superior varieties are being assembled to obtain cayenne pepper plants with high yields. Breeding efforts in assembling superior varieties can be carried out using gamma ray irradiation techniques. This research was carried out with the aim of determining whether there were differences in mutant accessions resulting from irradiation compared to plants without radiation in order to determine whether there were accessions with superior characteristics in growth and yield. The research was conducted at UPN "Veteran" East Java, Surabaya. The research was structured using a Randomized Block Design consisting of 29 mutants (M2) accessions and 1 control plant (P) with 3 replications. Tests were carried out on growth parameters including plant height and number of leaves as well as plant yield parameters including number of fruit, fruit length, fruit diameter, weight per fruit, and total weight of fruit per plant. Data were analysed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey HSD test. The results of ANOVA and Tukey HSD test showed that there were differences in the 29 mutants accessions with control plants. Accessions with superior characteristics to control plants in 6 parameters were MP1-2, MP2-5, and M2-6.Key-words: Cayenne pepper, Growth, Yield INTISARIPermintaan masyarakat akan cabai rawit tinggi. Abstract

Corn is an important source of carbohydrates, so it can be used as an alternative substitute for staple foods after rice. Alluvial soil has quite good potential for agricultural land, however, in its use there are several problems and obstacles such as low pH values, poor soil structure, low base saturation, low permeability and low nutrient availability. Utilizing alluvial soil as a planting medium requires a combination of red mud and chicken manure as an alternative. This research aims to analyze the effect of a combination of red mud and chicken manure on N, P, K nutrient uptake and corn yields on alluvial soil. This research was carried out at the Experimental Garden, Faculty of Agriculture, Tanjungpura University and plant tissue analysis at the Chemistry and Soil Fertility Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Tanjungpura University, starting from August 2023-November 2023. The design used in this research was a Completely Randomized Design (RAL), consisting of 9 treatment and 3 replications so that there were 27 polybags (plants), treatments included A1(100 g red mud + 1,000 g chicken manure/polybag), A2(100 g red mud + 2,000 g chicken manure/polybag), A3(100 g red mud + 3,000 g chicken manure/polybag), A4(200 g red mud +1,000 g chicken manure/polybag), A5(200 g red mud + 2,000 g chicken manure/polybag), A6(200 g red mud + 3,000 g chicken manure/polybag), A7(300 g red mud + 1,000 g chicken manure/polybag), A8(300 g red mud + 2,000 g chicken manure/polybag) and A9(300 g red mud + 3,000 g chicken manure/polybag). The results showed that the combination of red mud and manure had a significant effect on the research parameters and the best results were found in treatment A3(100 g red mud + 3,000 g chicken manure/polybag).Key words: Red Mud and Chicken Manure, Nutrient Uptake N, P, K, Alluvial Soil. Abstract

Pepper is one of the important commodities in Indonesia. The main obstacles In pepper cultivation is basal stem rot. It can be solved by grafting pepper plants on rootstock that is resistant to that disease. Melada plants (Piper colubrinum Link) are considered resistant to stem rot disease and are also resistant to flooding and drought. The aim of this research was to test the resistance of melada plants to drought stress. The research was carried out using a completely randomized design consisting of five treatments with five replications, and every treatment unit consisting of three plants. Melada cuttings are planted in plastic pots. After 5 months, the seedlings were treated with drought stress by irrigating using a Polyethylene glycol (PEG) solution with concentrations of 0%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% for two months. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance. The results showed that drought stress treatment reduced plant growth in the variables  leaves number and fully opened leaf area. Melada plants are resistant to drought stress up to an osmotic pressure level of -4.5 bar, equivalent to 15% PEG. Apart from reducing growth, drought stress causes necrotic damage on the leaves starting from the edges of the leaves.

Abstract

Pepper (Piper nigrum L.) is a spice plant that can be used as a kitchen ingredient for flavoring dishes and can also be used as a vegetable pesticide, medicine and even perfume. This study aims to determine the potential mutations that occur in LD₅₀ chemical mutagen EMS concentration of 0.3% against pepper seeds. This research was conducted in Limbung Village, Sungai Raya District, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan. This research took place from August 23 to November 20, 2023. This research uses an experimental method that is carried out descriptively using an environmental design, namely a complete randomized design (RAL). The total pepper seeds used were 250 seeds, namely 200 pepper seeds treated with 0.3% EMS mutagen (LD₅₀) and 50 pepper seeds without treatment (control) which were used as a comparison. The variables observed in this study were germination percentage (%), sprout appearance (score), leaf color, leaf shape (leaf blade shape, leaf tip shape, leaf base shape, leaf recurrence shape and leaf surface), stem color, stem shape and root length (cm). The results showed that the effect of using 0.3% EMS mutagen is thought to have the potential to increase variation in leaf blade shape, leaf tip, leaf color, stem color and stem shape and root length. However, it did not show the potential for mutation in the shape of the leaf base and leaf surface.

Abstract

Gumawang Hamlet has its own managed cocoa farming, but the income it earns has not increased so it is important for farming to have an objective and transparent performance assessment system. The objective to be achieved in this research is to determine the performance results of the Sidodadi Farmer group farmers when measured using the Balanced Scorecard approach. The method used in this research is the Balance Scorecard approach. Key performance indicators are measured by comparing the level of achievement (realization) with the Budget Work Plan (RKAP) that has been determined for the same year. The performance measurement results using the 7 indicators in the questionnaire show that 4 factors have quite good scores. These 4 factors are as follows: 1) work wisely in land problems with an average of 3.5% weight value 27. 2) work diligently with an average of 3.2% weight value 15. 3) work neatly with an average value of 3.2% weight value 15. 4) farmers master knowledge with an average of 3.2% weight value 15.

Abstract

The research aims to determine gender roles in reproductive, productive and social activities, control and access to resources and benefits in rice farming and factors that influence gender roles in rice farming households. This study uses mixed methods, this research is a research step by combining 2 existing forms of previous research, namely qualitative and quantitative research with 30 rice farmer respondents in Pejambon Village. Gender roles in rice farming households are seen in 1) division of productive labor, 2) division of reproductive labor and 3) social society. The research results show that productive activities are dominated by men or the role of husbands in farming families to carry out work activities. While reproductive activities are dominated by women, gender equality in control and access to resources and benefits proves the dominant role of men. Several factors that influence gender roles include: level of education, economic conditions and culture.

Abstract

Cultivation of cauliflower in West Kalimantan has high prospects for cultivation, especially on alluvial soil. However, cultivation of cauliflower on alluvial soil is faced with the constraint of soil pH which causes land productivity to decrease. Proper cultivation techniques and soil conditioners are needed to increase soil fertility so that land productivity increases. This study aims to obtain the best combination of manure and biological fertilizer doses that affect the growth and yield of cauliflower cultivation of Snow White and Larissa varieties and to determine which cauliflower varieties respond better after being treated. The study was conducted at the Golden River Camp land, Jalan Kalimas Tengah, Dusun Mawar, Kalimas Village, Sungai Kakap District, Kuburaya Regency, West Kalimantan Province. The study was conducted from July to November 2023. This study used a Split Block design. The main plot is the cauliflower variety (V) consisting of v1 = Larissa, v2 = Snow White and the subplot is a combination of manure and biological fertilizer (S) consisting of s1 = chicken manure, s2 = goat manure, s3 = chicken manure + biological fertilizer, and s4 = goat manure + biological fertilizer. There are 2 factors with 4 treatments. Each treatment consists of 3 replications so that there are 24 treatment units with each treatment unit determined by 4 plant samples and among the 4 plant samples determined by 1 destructive plant. The variables observed in this study include the number of leaves, leaf area, fresh plant weight, dry plant weight, flower emergence, crop diameter, and crop weight. The results showed that the interaction between the combination of manure and biological fertilizer on cauliflower varieties had a significant effect on crop diameter. The combination of ameliorants on the Larissa variety did not provide any difference in the growth and yield of cauliflower, while on the Snow White variety, the combination of ameliorants provided a difference in the yield of cauliflower plants. The combination of chicken manure + biological fertilizer and goat manure + biological fertilizer treatments on the Snow White variety gave better results than the treatment of chicken manure and goat manure on the growth and yield of cauliflower.
