Abstract

In the era of industrial revolution, education is required to produce graduates who are in line with 21st century skills. One of the learning models that is considered suitable for the challenges of this century is integrative learning. Specifically, this research explores the concept of interdisciplinary integrative learning in Indonesian language learning, starting from the principles, steps, to the impact of learning for students. This research used the SLR (systematic literature review) method. Data was obtained through the Publish or Perish application. From 224 articles found, 5 articles were selected that were in line with this research. Based on the search results, it was found that the principles of learning with the integrative learning model are (1) student-centered learning; (2) integrating various disciplines; and (3) utilizing technology. The implementation of integrative learning in Indonesian language learning can be done by combining various learning methods or various disciplines in learning. Through this model, Indonesian language learning at school becomes more meaningful because students are able to master linguistic insights and can use them in everyday life. In addition, this model also helps students to understand knowledge holistically to solve problems in everyday life.

Abstract

This development study was conducted to create and make an independent curriculum-based teaching tool for trade school students in grade 11 that teaches them how to write play plots. The ADDIE model was used in this development research, which had five steps: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. This study led to the creation of an independent curriculum-based play script writing training program that both subject and practice experts have approved. Field tests were also done to see what the students learned and how they responded. The development study led to creating teaching modules that could be used for learning. These modules got scores of 94.22% from material experts and 96.44% from practitioner experts. The field test found that 50.8% of students learned what they were supposed to learn and that 93.3% of students responded. A score of 83.69% was found in the "very feasible" group based on validation and field test results. Thus, the teaching module developed is suitable for use in learning. However, the percentage of student learning outcomes is a consequence of researchers' limited time in conducting development research. Therefore, drama script writing training is needed based on the results obtained.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the relationship between mountains and women in two Southeast Asian short stories, namely A.A. Navis's Angin Dari Gunung and Leeyee Lim's The Mountain of Longing originated from Malaysia and Indonesia. Although mountains are mostly viewed as a place where nature thrives and a spiritual place in Southeast Asia, they also can be viewed as a place of belonging and provider, especially for women in dealing with others. Seeing this, ecofeminism is chosen and used as the lens to examine the nature-women relationship that exists in the stories. The qualitative method is added to provide the primary and secondary sources that can help analyze the relationship between the mountains and women. The result of the analysis shows a close relationship between mountains and women. It is presented in a narrative of the chaotic life the female characters deal with, with mountains as the relief provider, comfort, and new life to them. This is considered the way mountains nurture women in their way.

Abstract

Based on Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic Indonesia Number 22 of 2022 concerning the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Education and Culture must be translated into textbook teaching resources. The materials in the Indonesian language textbook phase F must apply with a critical perspective or critical pedagogy, as a manifestation of the mandate of the minister of education and culture. Descriptive text material is material where elements of critical pedagogy can be seen. The aim of this research is to look at the elements of critical pedagogy, as well as to see how critical pedagogy is presented in descriptive text material in Indonesian textbooks. This research uses Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis research method. Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis divides it into three dimensions, namely the text dimensions, discourse practice dimensions, and the sociocultural dimensions. The research results show that in text analysis, were found that characterize critical pedagogy. In the analysis of discourse practice, the critical pedagogy that emerges is only half-assed, not complete. As for sociocultural analysis, the results of the PISA ranking and the pandemic which caused an economic recession are the reasons why critical pedagogy did not fully emerged.

Abstract

Android-based learning media has become one of the innovations in 21st-century education. There is a need for new educational technologies aligned with the current demands and challenges of learning, especially in preparing for PISA and AKM assessments. This article describes the development and feasibility testing of the Android-based application 'AMPURASIA' as a learning medium for 7th-grade junior high school students on traditional poetry texts. The research follows the R&D approach, using the Borg & Gall model, which involves seven essential stages: (1) data collection, (2) product design planning, (3) initial product development, (4) limited-scale preliminary testing, (5) initial product revision, (6) field testing, and (7) final product revision. This study employed observation sheets and questionnaires as data collection instruments. In the limited trial, the researcher involved 10 students as subjects, while experts served as validators. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods. The analysis results showed that the learning media was rated 'highly feasible' with an average score of 88% on the product feasibility test. Therefore, the product can be utilized as an interactive learning medium.

Abstract

Edward Said's concept of orientalism in the short story Di mana Kepala JP Coen? (2024) by Dewanto Amin Sadono raises the complexity of the binary opposition of Indonesia and the Netherlands through stereotypical discursive that causes objectivity towards Indonesia women as mistresses and exotic. This study aims to dismantle the contradiction of views between the Netherlands (colonizer) and the Indonesia (colonized) after the colonial period ended. The method used in the research is in the form of a qualitative descriptive method to clarify the data that describe the construction of orientalism. The data collection technique in this study uses reading, observing, recording, and classifying techniques. The results of this study show the development of binary opposition that describes the Indonesia nation as having oriental traits, such as backward, uncivilized, and exotic, while the West is an ideal nation. The complexity of the binary opposition shows the resistance of indigenous women and the power of the Indonesia nation to dominate the postcolonial historical discourse. Short Story Di mana Kepala JP Coen? (2024) is a criticism of orientalism in the continuation of the meaning of representation of East with West as inferior and superior parties. This is a form towards equality and liberation of the colonized from the colonizer.

Abstract

Sanggar Bimbingan Permai Penang Malaysia is a nonformal institution that teaches Arabic to their students who are the children of Indonesian migrants. Same with other educational institutions, Arabic learning at Sanggar Bimbingan is not free from various problems. This research is a case study with a qualitative approach. The research respondents include the principal, teachers, students in grades III, V, and VI, and parents of students. Data was collected through participant observation and interviews. Observations were conducted for 28 days by directly teaching 24 students in three classes, with Arabic classes held three times a week. Interviews were conducted with one principal, three teachers, and two students. Data was analyzed using the Miles & Huberman technique, which involves data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research found linguistic problems including the complexity of Arabic grammar, the vastness of vocabulary, and differences between Arabic and the students’ native languages. Non-linguistic challenges encompass student motivation, environmental support, availability of study time, teaching quality, and inadequate facilities and infrastructure.

Abstract

As a black Nigerian woman who married an immigrant, Chinaza from The Arrangers of Marriage (2009) short story had to go to the United States of America and live with her husband. Being in an unfamiliar environment made her feel isolated, especially with her marriage being an arrangement in which she had no say. This research aims to reveal Chinaza’s lack of agency in gaining her voice and how it affects her alienation in a new environment. By using a qualitative descriptive method, this research applies a postcolonial approach with the help of Gayatri Spivak’s subaltern and Homi Bhabha’s unhomeliness concept. The results show that Chinaza is a subaltern who is silenced and marginalized in both her patriarchal family and her new environment in the United States. In addition, her new life in a foreign country made her feel confined between two cultures, which couldn’t seem to accept her nor was she able to accept completely. The feeling of “unhomely” that Chinaza experienced was not solely caused by living in a foreign country, but also because of her husband urging her to abandon her culture.
