Abstract

The spatial pattern of Semarang illustrate how the pattern that separates the production zone  with consumption zone. Consumption zone is where we live, while the production zone is where we work, shop, school prayer, and recreation. The condition causes the townspeople have to commute (nglajo) every day from the residence to the production zone. Patterns of community life of the city brought in a mechanical rhythm of having to use a motor vehicle. Be they as a community-based automobile (Hadi, 2001: 100-101). The existence of these problems lead to the birth of the Self-reliant  New Town BSB Semarang. Bukit Semarang Baru (BSB) as an Self-reliant  New Town is an integrated spatial planning, where the provision of shelter is equipped with facilities meeting the needs which are within the scope of one area or also called mixed use zoning. To examine changes in activity and mobility of people in urban space integrated pattern which in this case is the Self-reliant New Town BSB then used a socio-ecological systems approach. Socio-ecological systems see the extent of the interaction between different systems. The link between humans and the environment is realized through a variety of physiological processes, psychological and cultural (Lawrence, 2003). The method used in this study is a mix methods with quantitative and qualitative approaches. A quantitative approach is used to analyze the activity and mobility patterns, and a qualitative approach to explain the socio-ecological system of the community. Results from this study that of the five regular activity performed, shopping activities and religious activities have high interaction, because most people have been doing the activity in the region, while for other activities such as the activity of work, school and activity in leisure time is still done in BSB outside the region. The use of public transport modes BSB still choose a long private vehicle.

Abstract

Limited availability of space in the city center while population number is rapidly increasing causes activity spaces develop in the suburbs. Banyumanik Area is sub-center development of Semarang City which has rapid population growth and developed into new activity centers with the connecting road network that forms the spatial structure. Although new activity and service centers has been established, Banyumanik Area’s residents dependence and number of movements toward city center are still high so indicates that activity centers in this area can’t serve Banyumanik’s residents needs yet. On the other hand, to create sustainable cities that can serve residents needs, Compact City concept has been developed through mixed land use, high density, and efficient public transport. This research aims to analyze compactness characteristics of Banyumanik’s spatial structure, its affecting elements, and its development trend based on experts opinion. This research used positivistic approach with descriptive analysis techniques. The results shows that Banyumanik Area’s spatial structure has not formed compact spaces yet characterized by low density area, mixed land use is growing in a linear form, public transportation has not reach some settlements yet, and dominant used of private vehicles compared to public transport and on foot.

Abstract

Agam Regency and Bukittinggi city are the two neighbouring regions and administratively adjoining territory. In order to improve drinking water services, Bukittinggi city has a lack of adequate raw water sources in its jurisdiction. Most of the raw water source used by Bukittinggi city today and the potential raw water sources are in the Agam Regency. Inter-regional cooperation is considered to overcome the problems of inequality between the raw water source between two regions. This study aims to explore and determine the potential of cooperation, stakeholder support and collaboration object capacity on inter-regional cooperation between Agam Regency and Bukittinggi city in providing the raw water supply. This research is using a Quantitative Methode, selection of sampling using a Snowbowling technique. The primary data were collected through questionnaires using Guttman Scale and Likert, the analyses were performed using scoring techniques and AHP. The analysis showed that the relationship between Agam and Bukittinggi in the raw water supply was dominated by a consulting relationship and the formal cooperation has not materialized. All stakeholders strongly supportted the inter-regional cooperation between Agam and Bukittinggi in the raw water supply. The differing views were appeared in seeing the benefits and challenges of cooperation. Utilization of raw water becomes a priority in inter-regional cooperation, meanwhile the raw water service system and the legality of cooperation are the two priorities aspects in the inter-regional cooperation. The availability of raw water sources which are alocated as the object of cooperation is sufficient to meet the current drinking water needs and the 20 years projected needs to come of Bukittinggi and the population needsin sub-districts in Agam Regency adjacent to Bukittinggi.

Abstract

City is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change because of the large population, the intensive usage of infrastructure and a lot of economic activities. In addition, lifestyle and activity of urban communities, which neglect the impact of energy consumption, tend to increase the concentration of greenhouse gas involved in global warming. Improving the environment and the quality of life become the responsibility of all stakeholders, including the higher education institutions. They are the ones who have the contribution to conserve the environment. Sustainable Campus is a concept that began to develop in the world as a response to the environmental degradation which is integrated into the campus policy. This study proposes to compare the sustainable development policy within the Tertre campus, University of Nantes-France and Tembalang campus, Diponegoro University-Semarang, Indonesia. The material of this study was constituted through the interviews with the main stakeholders, as the key personnel in the field of sustainable development. In summary, we can conclude that the best sustainable development policy in the campus must be integrated into the environmental management, the improvement of the quality of life of the university community, and the strengthening of the economy, as well as engage in partnerships with all the stakeholders.

Abstract

Jayapura port currently functions for the transportation of both passengers and cargo for Jayapura city and its hinderland. Movement of ships and goods continue to increase along with economic growth of the area resulting in inadequate area for container storage. This had become the basis for Papua Province Government to separate the function of cargo port from Jayapura to Depapre district. This study aims to investigate the spatial implication of the movement of the port. The study identifies the role and function of Jayapura and Depapre Port, the burden and benefit of the movement of the port for Jayapura and Depapre, and its spatial implication. The study employs descriptive quantitative approach using analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Analyses showed that Jayapura Port functions mainly to serve exports and supply of consumer goods, while Depapre will provide complementary functions in the early stages while demand for cargo grows from nearby production centers. The burden faced by Jayapura is the increase in distribution cost, along with environmental degradation in Depapre. The benefits include more efficient distribution process in Jayapura and economic development in Depapre. The spatial implications include a shift of land use in the surrounding of Depapre and along the Sentani-Depapre corridor. These shifts will require land use controlling measures in Depapre and along the Sentani-Depapre corridor.
