The journal AL-ULUM (Islamic thought and Educational Journal) published an article on the theme of education, using the language of Indonesia or the United Kingdom that includes the study of literature, conceptual thinking and research results in the field of education. These journals give priority to studies related to Islamic thought and education from different perspectives. This journal serves as a means and medium of communication that is used by researchers, lecturers, teachers, students, and practitioners to examine education and Islamic thought. This journal became the medium of exchange of ideas and research findings from various traditions of interacting learning scientifically.

Abstract

The relationship between religion and science is a complex issue that often arises. In the context of early marriage, religion and science have different paradigms in responding to the age of marriage. The relationship between religion and science from Barbour's perspective is considered important to study in understanding and addressing the dynamics of early marriage age policies in Indonesia. This study aims to explore the relationship between religion and science in formulating marriage age policies in Indonesia. The method used in this study is library research. The results of this study explain that, (1) Ian G. Barbour categorizes the relationship between religion and science into four typologies: conflict, independence, dialogue, and integration. (2) Although early marriage practices still occur due to social, economic, and cultural factors, integrative efforts between religious views and scientific data (reproductive health, child psychology) show that the dialogue and integration approaches are effective bridges between religious values and modern scientific findings. (3) In the context of marriage age policies in Indonesia, the relationship between religion and science tends to move from conflict toward a model of dialogue and even integration. This is reflected in the alignment between state policy, through the revision of Law No. 1 of 1974 into Law No. 16 of 2019, and the MUI fatwa supporting marriage age restrictions for the greater good.

Abstract

Kajian epistemologi bayani menekankan otoritas teks sebagai sumber utama pengetahuan, sehingga relevan dengan pembelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam yang berbasis pada Al-Qur’an dan hadis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan epistemologi bayani dari aspek sejarah, sumber pengetahuan, metode pendekatan, serta implementasinya dalam pembelajaran PAI. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis studi kepustakaan melalui penelaahan literatur berupa buku-buku klasik dan kontemporer, jurnal akademik, serta penelitian terdahulu yang relevan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa epistemologi bayani menempatkan teks wahyu, yakni Al-Qur’an dan As-Sunnah, sebagai sumber pengetahuan utama. Pendekatan yang digunakan meliputi dua metode, yaitu pemahaman literal terhadap teks serta penerapan analogi (qiyas) dalam pengembangan hukum dan pemikiran keagamaan. Penerapan epistemologi bayani dalam pembelajaran PAI tampak pada penggunaan teks Al-Qur’an, hadis, dan literatur keislaman lainnya sebagai pedoman pokok dalam proses belajar-mengajar, baik di madrasah. Selain itu, epistemologi bayani juga berfungsi sebagai sarana internalisasi nilai-nilai religius sekaligus sebagai landasan normatif dalam membentuk karakter peserta didik. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa epistemologi bayani bukan hanya kerangka teoritis filsafat Islam, tetapi juga memiliki relevansi praktis dalam pengembangan kurikulum dan metode pembelajaran. Hal ini memperkuat posisi epistemologi bayani sebagai landasan penting dalam menjaga otoritas teks wahyu, sekaligus menjadi fondasi epistemik yang membedakan PAI dari mata pelajaran lain

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital technology and social media has significantly changed communication, social interaction, and political dynamics in Indonesia. However, these developments have also intensified social and political polarization, often accompanied by hate speech, hoaxes, and politicization of religion. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic education in promoting religious moderation as a response to the challenges of digital polarization. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research was conducted in selected Islamic educational institutions, including madrasas, Islamic boarding schools, and Islamic universities, with purposive sampling of key actors such as educators, students, and community stakeholders. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using Miles & Huberman's interactive model with triangulation for validity. The findings reveal that Islamic education plays a strategic role in strengthening religious moderation through four main practices: (1) curriculum integration of the values of tolerance, peace, and citizenship; (2) digital literacy programs to counter misinformation and ideological propaganda; (3) extracurricular activities that encourage interfaith dialogue and social solidarity; and (4) the role of exemplary educators (teachers, kyai, and lecturers) in realizing wasathiyah values. The study concludes that Islamic education is not only a means of transmitting religious knowledge but also an important agent of social cohesion and national stability in the digital age.
