Abstract

Optimal hydration plays a vital role in maintaining athletic performance, particularly in precision-based sports such as Petanque, which require concentration, energy stability, and high mental endurance. However, athletes’ understanding of proper hydration practices remains limited, increasing the risk of dehydration, reduced focus, and performance decline. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of hydration education delivered through digital and printed media in improving the knowledge and fluid consumption behaviors of Petanque athletes under the Federation of Petanque Indonesia (FOPI) South Sulawesi. The research employed a quantitative approach using a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 35 athletes selected through total sampling. The educational intervention was implemented via an educational website and an athlete hydration handbook, while data were collected using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The findings revealed a significant improvement in athletes’ knowledge and hydration behaviors after the intervention, confirming the effectiveness of the educational program in fostering positive behavioral changes. The results emphasize the applicability of health behavior change theories in sports nutrition education and demonstrate that interactive, media-based education can effectively enhance both awareness and practice. Theoretically, this study contributes to expanding the application of hydration education in non-cardiorespiratory sports, while practically, it provides a foundation for developing structured training programs that highlight the importance of fluid balance as a key determinant of athletic performance and overall well-being.

Abstract

Optimal muscle recovery is essential for basketball athletes to maintain performance and prevent injury. Cryotherapy and dynamic stretching are two popular recovery methods, but the comparative effectiveness of the two still needs further research. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of cryotherapy and dynamic stretching on reducing muscle soreness in young basketball athletes after intensive training. This research method is a quasi-experiment with a pre-test post-test design in two groups. The sample of 22 basketball athletes BKMF FIKK UNM was divided into cryotherapy (n = 11) and dynamic stretching (n = 11) groups. Muscle pain levels were measured using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) at 30 minutes, 24 hours, and 72 hours post-test. Analysis using independent t test, and ANOVA. Results showed that both groups experienced a significant decrease in VAS scores at all measurement times (p<0.001). At 72 hours post-test, cryotherapy showed lower VAS score (3.39 ± 0.42) than dynamic stretching (3.81 ± 0.50) with significant difference (p=0.047). There was a significant effect of intervention type (p=0.000), measurement time (p=0.000), and their interaction (p=0.005). This study shows that cryotherapy and dynamic stretching are effective in reducing muscle pain, but cryotherapy is superior in the final phase of recovery.

Abstract

Flexibility muscle hamstrings for futsal athletes have role important to support performance physique like acceleration and running fast , and prevent injury . This study aims to determine influence Nordic Hamstring exercises against improvement flexibility hamstring muscles in futsal athletes at Jakarta State University. This study used approach one group test -posttest design. A total of 15 samples study get treatment exercise Nordic hamstring s as many as 16 meetings . To find out influence from exercise nordic hamstring against improvement flexibility hamstring muscles using instrument sit and reach with tool flexometer . Research results disclose there is significant difference in a way statistics on flexibility hamstring muscles before and after do exercise Nordic hamstring (p = 0.001 or p < 0.05). With thus can concluded that exercise nordic hamstring effect positive to improvement flexibility hamstring muscles in futsal athletes at Jakarta State University. This study recommends use exercise Nordic hamstring as part from exercise programs for flexibility extremities down and up performance in futsal athletes .

Abstract

Hemoglobin serves as a key determinant in oxygen transport to peripheral tissues, thereby directly influencing aerobic capacity, typically assessed via maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂ Max). In basketball, a sport characterized by a unique integration of aerobic and anaerobic demands, maintaining optimal hemoglobin concentration is critical for sustaining high-level performance. This study aimed to examine the association between hemoglobin concentration and VO₂ Max in competitive basketball athletes. A quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. Twenty basketball athletes (12 male, 8 female), aged 19–23 years, were recruited through purposive sampling. Hemoglobin concentration was assessed using digital hematology analysis, while VO₂ Max was estimated through the Multistage Fitness Test. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s product–moment correlation with a significance threshold of p < 0.05. The mean hemoglobin concentration was 14.73 ± 1.27 g/dL, and the mean VO₂ Max was 51.89 ± 5.32 mL·kg⁻¹·min⁻¹. Statistical analysis demonstrated an exceptionally strong positive correlation between hemoglobin concentration and VO₂ Max (r = 0.993, p < 0.001), indicating that higher hemoglobin levels are closely linked to enhanced aerobic capacity. These findings underscore the pivotal role of hemoglobin monitoring in athlete fitness evaluation and suggest its potential utility as a biomarker for targeted performance optimization strategies in basketball.

Abstract

This study used a survey approach to determine the fitness and health conditions of retired martial artists and the relationship between the two. A total of 33 subjects, consisting of 17 retired male martial artists and 16 retired female martial artists, participated in this study. The instruments used in this study were a fitness test battery and the General Health Questionnaire 12 (GHQ-12). The fitness test battery consisted of five test items, namely Body Mass Index (BMI), sit and reach (flexibility), 1-minute push-ups (arm and chest muscle strength), 1-minute sit-ups (abdominal muscle strength), and a 12-minute run (cardiovascular endurance). The data analysis techniques in this study used descriptive statistics, percentage formulas, and correlations. The analysis was performed using MS Excel and JASP. Nearly half of retired martial artists, both female and male, had poor physical fitness levels, while the majority of retired martial artists showed signs of psychological distress. There is a relationship between fitness levels and the psychological health of retired martial artists. The results of this study indicate the importance of developing educational programs for retired athletes to maintain physical fitness and psychological health in future studies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of coach communication on the performance of team sports teams by considering the mediating role of coach-athlete relationships. The design of a correlational quantitative research with 300 athletes from 30 team teams (soccer, volleyball, basketball). The instruments used included the Coach Communication Scale (α = 0.892), the Coach-Athlete Relationship Questionnaire (α = 0.876), and the Team Performance Scale (α = 0.845). The analysis used multiple regression and bootstrap mediation (5,000 samples). Coach communication had a positive effect on team performance (β = 0.38, p < 0.001), with the coach-athlete relationship as a partial mediator (Indirect effect = 0.12, CI 95% [0.06–0.19]). Effective coach communication improves team performance directly as well as through quality interpersonal relationships. Adaptive and empathy-based communication strategies can be used as the basis for coach development programs to increase the effectiveness of team sports teams.
