Abstract

Background: Hand Foot Mouth Disease (HFMD) is an acute infectious disease. The epidemic of HFMD has been reported in some countries in the Pacific region, every three years in America, and almost every year in China. This study is conducted to determine risk factors that correlate with HFMD in children under five years old in Dusun Sengkrakan, Lawang. This study is a cross-sectional study with an analytical observational approach.Method: The sample size was determined by total sampling, including 54 mothers with children under five years old in Dusun Sengkrakan, Lawang. The result was then analyzed with a statistical package for the social science (SPSS).Results: This study shows that there is a significant correlation between children’s age (p = 0.012) and HFMD occurrence, meanwhile, sex, birth weight, gestational age, exclusive breastfeeding, number of siblings in the house, and mother’s age have no significant correlation with HFMD occurrence. Children's age is the most dominant factor among other independent variables [p = 0.017; OR 2.849 (95% CI: 1.203 – 6.750)]. The result of this study is expected to raise public awareness of promotive and preventive measures against HFMD for the public purpose of preventing HFMD outbreaks in Indonesia

Abstract

Background: Improving the education system of patient-centered health information is particularly important for vulnerable populations. The magnitude of the attributable breast cancer burden is very essential to be a concern to developing a good management strategy. Improving the patient’s understanding of their conditions may enhance the quality of life following breast cancer. The study aimed to review the effectiveness of audio-visual education through digital media platforms to improve the quality of life among people with breast cancer.Method: These 1643 articles from eight databases i.e., Scopus, PubMed, MEDLINE via EBSCO, the Cochran Library, Springer Link, Wiley Online Library, BioMed Central, and Sage Journals were searched by a combination of medical subject heading (MESH) term, and unique references were examined. All studies evaluating audio-visual education of women with breast cancer delivered by digital media platforms were included. Results: The search yielded 14 articles with various digital media platforms, such as web-based, applications, e-mail, videoconference, YouTube, and WhatsApp. All studies reported improving quality of life, except one study using WhatsApp as the platform. Audio-visual interventions were variably effective in enhancing the quality of life of patients depending on their characteristics. Audio-visual interventions appear to be effective in improving quality of life amongst breast cancer person. Nevertheless, its effectiveness depends on the frequency and intensity of audio-visual delivery. Meanwhile, the contents of education materials must be adjusted to the administration method. Audio-visual modeling via digital platforms may facilitate improving quality of life and can be an important consideration in future health-education interventions.

Abstract

Background: Measles and rubella are infectious diseases caused by viruses. The average number of measles cases found in infancy to four years old was 1.125 cases (41.8%) in 2021, with 366 and 13 cases for East Java and Malang, respectively. To eliminate measles and rubella cases in 2023, the high coverage of measles and rubella (MR) vaccination must be met at least 95%. Since 2021, the Bareng Primary Healthcare Centre in Malang has shown the lowest MR vaccination, with 217 children vaccinated (33.23%).Method: This study used a quantitative research method with observational analysis and a cross-sectional study design with a sample size of 68 people. The sampling technique used was proportionate random sampling. Then, data were done through univariate and bivariate analyses using the Spearman rank correlation test. Results: Based on the univariate results, most respondents were aged 27 to 35 years (55.9%) with secondary education (Senior High School/Vocational School/Islamic Senior High School) (55.9%) and had no income (41.2%). Based on the results of the bivariate analysis, intention and attitude correlated (0.000) with subjective norm (0.000) and perceived control over behavior (0.000). Variables significantly related to mother’s intention in giving measles-rubella vaccination were attitude over behavior, subjective norm, and perception of control over behavior. It is expected that the result of this study could raise the mother's intention to participate in counseling and socialization by providing accurate information about the MR vaccination.

Abstract

Background: Health cadres play a crucial role in community development, serving as primary health managers responsible for mobilizing communities and fostering self-help initiatives to improve health outcomes. Despite their significance, challenges such as poor communication leading to missed visits by mothers with toddlers hinder program execution. Understanding and addressing these challenges is essential for establishing a resilient healthcare system that optimizes cadre contributions.Method: A qualitative, phenomenological approach was employed in this study. In-depth interviews were conducted with 11 diverse participants, including the Head of the Public Health Center, the Coordinator of Health Cadres, Health Cadres, and Community Members. Informant selection utilized purposive techniques and snowball sampling, with an interview guide containing open-ended questions as the research instrument. The data analysis followed a descriptive approach based on the Miles and Huberman model. Results: Challenges faced by health cadres varied across regions, encompassing factors such as differing community participation levels, heavy administrative tasks, and conflicts among cadres. Despite these challenges, most cadres exhibited high commitment, motivation, and familial support, mitigating potential issues. Each cadre adopted a unique approach to anticipate and address challenges associated with their roles. Regular coaching from Public Health Centers and implementing simplified administrative systems were identified as potential strategies to enhance cadre performance.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a developmental disorder that occurs in children caused by malnutrition, frequent infections, and poor psychosocial simulation. Stunting can be influenced by some factors such as infection, exclusive breastfeeding, early initiation of breastfeeding, and adolescent pregnancy. This study aims to review the association between adolescent pregnancy and stunting incidence.Method:  This scoping review used the PRISMA-ScR framework by searching for articles from relevant databases such as Pubmed, EBSCO, and Wiley. The article search obtained ten articles for further analysis. The article was analyzed based on the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). The keywords used were Teen Pregnancy* OR Adolescent Pregnancy* OR Teen Pregnancies* AND Nutritional Deficiency* OR Undernutrition* OR Growth Disorder* OR Stunting*. Besides, the researcher added a filter, namely articles published in the last five years (2018-2022), articles that are open access, and original research articles. Results: Based on the results of reviewing the ten articles, it can be concluded that adolescent pregnancy is significantly associated with stunting incidence in adolescents with low education levels and poor economic conditions leading to poor health awareness and nutritional status. Future studies are expected to further evaluate the relationship between adolescent pregnancy and stunting incidence

Abstract

Background: The use of contraception is one of the efforts to prevent unwanted or mistimed pregnancies. Therefore, it has become a family planning program for motivating families to have ideal plans for pregnancies in time and with a desired number. However, although nationally, 58.7% of married women aged 15-49 years old used contraception in 2019, the percentage of contraceptive users remained the lowest in Papua, with only 13.7% of married women of the same age group using contraceptives in addition to 20% of the women having the unmet need for contraception. This study aims to analyze the determinants of the use of contraception in women of childbearing age in Papua Province.Method: This study employed data from the 2020 National Socioeconomic Survey (Susenas) with a cross-sectional approach. Respondents were 666,866 married women aged 10-54 years. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression analysis were performed using SPSS with a 95% confidence interval (p < 0.05) to express statistical significance. Results: Residence, educational status, pregnancy, employment, age at first marriage, number of children, cell phone ownership, and health insurance were significantly correlated with contraceptive use (p < 0.001). Residence in an urban area, junior high school education, pregnancy, marriage at less than 20 years of age, having more than two children alive, and ownership of a cell phone and health insurance were associated with an increased chance of using contraceptive methods among married women of reproductive age in Papua. The chance to use contraception was the highest for married pregnant women of reproductive age, and the women, in this case, were 35 times more likely to use contraceptives compared to unpregnant ones.

Abstract

Background: Newborns mostly require breast milk. Women who choose to work are equally responsible for maintaining breastfeeding. Prior studies have identified variations in the time and intensity of breastfeeding before and after returning to work. Disparities exist in the assistance provided for women to breastfeed in the workplace, with past studies revealing insufficient facilities. This study intends to examine women's views on the support for breastfeeding in the workplace.Method: A scoping review was carried out using the PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect databases, following PRISMA procedures. The papers were selected based on specific criteria: they had to be cross-sectional and qualitative studies focusing on women's opinions of breastfeeding in the workplace. Additionally, the articles were to be written in English, give the entire text, and have been done between 2019 and 2023.Results: Ten publications were examined from different workplaces. The research examines different forms of work and workplaces. Women's views on breastfeeding support focus on instrumental support, such as inappropriate or unavailable lactation rooms, work hours and policies, lack of breastfeeding groups, facilities for breastfeeding and breast milk pumping, insufficient storage, inadequate childcare facilities, and lack of caregivers at home, which impede exclusive breastfeeding. Emotional support refers to the assistance provided by colleagues in the workplace. Form of information support, namely the absence of communication and information support. There is a common belief that breastfeeding is seen as a personal issue connected to one's knowledge and self-confidence. Cross-sectoral collaboration needs to be involved, including family, workplace commitment, and government support to support the success of breastfeeding in the workplace.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is inadequacy in physical growth. Stunting can be detrimental to children under five as it causes low intelligence, decreased endurance, and inhibited growth and development. This will increase risk of infections and non-communicable diseases in adulthood. The optimal implementation of family roles supports the improvement of nutritional status in toddlers so it can reduce the incidence of stunting.Method: This systematic review is written in accordance to the PRISMA guidelines. The process includes analysis on online articles from databases of ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar for the past five years the period from 2019 with the keywords "stunting and parents or family".Results: There are researches from eight articles related to the role and support of families in preventing stunting. Based on several syntheses reviewed, it was determined that culture can be an inhibiting factor in preventing stunting. Still, with local wisdom, it can also be a catalyst in reducing stunting itself. Culture is one of the specific nutrition interventions that can reduce the prevalence of stunting by emphasizing aspects of a mother as the “center of life”, family roles and support, and the role of fathers in preventing stunting. Families have an important role to play in preventing and managing the problem of stunting. Families play an important role in preventing stunting at every stage of life from fetus in the womb, to newborn, toddler, teenager, married, pregnant, and so on. Therefore, efforts to empower families are necessary.

Abstract

Background: According to research, Indonesia faces challenges as a result of a low level of knowledge of adolescent reproductive health (ARH) due to limited exposure to information media. Access to information and knowledge among adolescents influences their risky behaviors towards ARH. This quantitative and cross-sectional study aims to examine the relationship between ARH behaviors and access to information and knowledge among unmarried Indonesian adolescents aged between 10 and 24, both male and female. This study collected secondary data from the 2019 Program Performance and Accountability Survey (PPAS). The independent variables were access to information and knowledge about ARH, whereas the dependent variables were ARH behaviors. In addition, the confounding variables were adolescent characteristics (i.e., age, gender, and level of education) and family characteristics (i.e., social economy and location of residence).Method: The data were analyzed using a multivariate logistic regression statistical test. Results: The findings revealed a significant relationship between ARH behaviors and access to information about ARH from various information media (p-value = 0.001) as well as between ARH behaviors and knowledge of ARH (p-value = 0.001). The findings suggested that health promotion for ARH should be enhanced by providing access to information from various social media commonly used by adolescents, which can increase knowledge about ARH and influence adolescent behaviors toward good reproductive health.
