Abstract

Students who have high academic grades in school need to be grouped into one class. This paradigm is still inherent in the community and teachers usually use this paradigm to group students who have high academic achievement in the classroom (ability grouping). This research is to provide an overview of the attitudes of teachers, students, and parents with regard to the implementation of ability grouping based on academic achievement. This research is quantitative descriptive study. The study was conducted in one of the public school at  Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia, grade IV and V, involving 6 classroom teachers grade IV and Grade V, 166 students and 166 parents. Data was collected using questionnaires and interviews. Result shows, teacher class A (high achievement) agrees, teacher class B (average achievement) and C (low achievement) do not agree with ability grouping. Most students in grade A, B and C agree with ability grouping. Parents of the class A agree, while the parents of the class B and C do not agree with ability grouping.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kepercayaan diri denganprestasi atlet Tae Kwon Do DIY (Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta). Dugaan awal yang diajukandalam penelitian ini adalah ada hubungan antara kepercayaan diri dengan prestasi atlet TaeKwon Do DIY. Semakin tinggi kepercayaan diri semakin tinggi pula prestasi yang dicapai.Subyek dalam penelitian ini adalah atlet Tae Kwon Do yang menempati juara satu, dua, dantiga dalam kejuaraan daerah Tae Kwon Do DIY yang diadakan di Auditorium UPN Yogyakarta.Skala yang digunakan adalah skala kepercayaan diri berdasarkan aspek yang dikemukukan olehKumara (1987). Prestasi Tae Kwon Do dilihat dari data hasil kejuaraan.Metode analisis data dilakukan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan fasilitas program SPSSversi 11 for windows. Teknik analisis menggunakan chi-square yang menunjukkan koefisien chisquare23,847 dengan p = 0,002 (p < 0,01) yang artinya ada hubungan yang signifikan antarakepercayaan diri dengan prestasi atlet Tae Kwon Do DIY. Jadi hipotesis penelitian diterima.Kata kunci: Kepercayaan diri, dukungan sosial, prestasi atlet.

Abstract

Epistemological understanding is an important part of college students’ intellectual development. The present study examines the structure of epistemological understanding on a sample of students in an Indonesian university. The study also compares epistemological understanding of the social and natural science disciplines. Participants were mostly female (58%), on average 17.9 years, and enrolled in either a social science (fashion design, law, and psychology; N = 575) or natural sciences study programme (engineering, pharmacy, and biology; N = 924). A Likert-type instrument was used to measure three dimensions of epistemological understanding regarding authority as a source of knowledge, the subjectivity of knowledge, and the changeability of knowledge. Eigen values and scree plot in the exploratory factor analysis indicate a four-factor solution. These factors referred to the three hypothesised dimensions, and one additional dimension reflecting beliefs related specifically to factual knowledge. Additional analyses show that knowledge in the social sciences are seen as more subjective and uncertain. Furthermore, while students generally trust epistemic authorities from both fields, the trust towards authority in the social sciences is associated with a belief that knowledge is subjective. The reverse pattern was found for the natural sciences. A possible explanation is that social science students recognised but were uncomfortable with the subjective nature of their discipline, and hence sought certainty from epistemic authorities.

Abstract

An education alternative proposed to generate well qualified human resources is boarding type school which is located in Islamic boarding school. Boarding school students are faced with very different situation than home. Dense activities make the students should be capable of dividing time for school, boarding house and other activities. Overcapacity in the boarding house makes it possible to evoke low supervision situation. That condition enables students susceptible with procrastinate behavior, particularly in academic field. Academic procrastination is a habit which can causes various negative consequences, like time wasting and school tasks abandoning.This research is purposed to study the relation of self-adjustment with academic procrastination to the students of SMP N 3 Jombang. This research used cluster random sampling technique. Researched subjects were 97 students. Researched measuring instrument used self-adjustment scale with 26 items (α = 0,877) and academic procrastination scale with 27 items (α = 0,898). Both scales are arranged with Likert mode scaling and its analysis statistic is used computer program SPSS version 16.0. Simple regression analysis resulted rxy = -0.463, with p = 0,000 (p<0,05).The result shows that there is a negative relation between self-adjustment with academic procrastination. The higher the student self adjustment, the lower the academic procrastination. Determination coefficient is 0,214, means that self adjustment gives effective contribution of 21,4% to academic procrastination. The remainder of 78,6% is determined by other factors which are not revealed in this research.Keywords: Self-Adjustment, Academic Procrastination, Boarding SchoolPermalink :

Abstract

In recent years, research on innovation in organizations, particularly innovative work behaviors, has developed considerably. The objective of the study were to examine the role of individual characteristics such as age, gender, educational background, ethnic’s background, tenure and length in current position which presumably would have an impact on the formation of innovative work behaviors. The study is quantitative study with non-experimental design, conducted on 279 respondents working in a Syariah Bank and a television company. The measuring tool used is the Innovative Work Behavior Scale. Demographic data were asked to be completed in the questionnaire. Data were analyzed using t-test, one-way Anova, and crosstabs analysis. The results show that innovative work behavior differs significantly based on age (χ2(3, 276) = 17.54; p < .001), educational background (χ2 (4, 275) = 8.18; p = .04), and tenure (χ2(2, 277) = 6.98; p = 0.03), but has no significant difference based on gender (χ2(2, 277) = 1.68; p = .20), ethnic background (χ2(13, 266) = 8.12; p = .78) and length in the current position (χ2(3, 276) = 3.81; p = .15). Thus, the results of this study will contribute to enrich the knowledge about innovative work behavior in Indonesia. Furthermore, this result will also be a consideration for dealing with employees to encourage innovative work behavior.

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this study is to describe the development of emergent literacy in kindergarten children and to compare the development of emergent literacy of kindergarten children in the urban and sub urban area of Semarang city. In order to collect data, the Emergent Literacy developmental Test was used (part of the test was adapted from the Get Ready To Read by Whitehurst). In total, 36 children aged 4-5 years participated in the study. The results showed that kindergarten children from urban area scored higher significantly (13.188 ± 3.43) in the emergent literacy than children from sub urban area (10.00 ± 3.146; t(35) = 2.903; p = 0.003).

Abstract

The problems faced by organizations is employee performance tends to decline over time resulting ineffectiveness of the organization. One of the factors that affect performance is job satisfaction. This study aims to determine empirically the correlation between job satisfaction and performance of the civil servant teachers. Subjects were 29 civil service teachers both male and female who become permanent employees and has worked at least 1 year in SLB Negeri 1 Bantul Yogyakarta. Data were collected using the Job Satisfaction Scale and the Performance Scale. Pearson’s product moment correlation were used to test the relationship between job satisfaction and teacher performance. The results showed that there is a significant positive correlation between job satisfaction and performance of the civil servant teachers (rxy= .551; p= .001). The more satisfied the teachers, the higher their performance.

Abstract

Bagi sebagian mahasiswa, skripsi masih menjadi masalah yang berat. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan mereka bisa menyelesaikan kuliah sebanyak sekitar 140 sks dalam 8 semester, tetapi untuk skripsi yang 6 sks ada yang ditempuh dalam 4 semester. Masalah lain adalah penggunaan pendekatan kualitatif yang masih sedikit digunakan karena berbagai macam ketakutan . Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap berapa mahasiswa yang menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dibandingkan dengan yang menggunakan kuantitatif dan mencari penyebab mengapa mereka enggan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif  dalam membuat skripsi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan melihat dokumen yang ada pada Biro Skripsi Program Studi Psikologi Universitas Diponegoro khususnya yan gmaju ujian sepanjang tahun 2006, wawancara dengan para dosen pembimbing dan mahasiswa yang sedang mengerjakan skripsi serta FGD dengan para mahasiswa pengambil mata kuliah Penelitian Kualitatif dan Teknik Penulisan Skripsi. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis secara induktif kemudian dibuat deskripsinya secara naratif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jumlah mahasiswa Program Studi Psikologi Universitas Diponegoro yang menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dalam mengerjakan skripsinya berjumlah 10 orang dibanding 91 yang menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Tentang lamanya mengerjakan penelitian atau skripsi, tidak semua yang menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif pasti lebih lama daripada pendekatan kuantitatif. Sedangkan jumlah halamannya memang rata-rata yang menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, laporannya atau skripsinya lebih tebal daripada yang menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Adapun alasan yang mengemuka khususnya pada mahasiswa yang enggan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif adalah dikarenakan merasa kurang menguasai metode, ketakutan dalam mengumpulkan data (observasi partisipatif), dan khawatir waktunya lama. Mahasiswa lebih suka dengan pendekatan kuantitatif karena menggunakan statistik tidak ada masalah (SMA nya IPA), suadah ada mata kuliah Pembuatan Skala Psikologi dan ingin cepat selesai (lulus).  Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah masih sangat sedikit mahasiswa yang menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dalam mengerjakan skripsi di Program Studi Psikologi Universitas Diponegoro, dibandingkan dengan yang menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan alasan merasa kurang menguasai khususnya dalam pengumpulan data dan takut lama selesainya. Abstract

Sex workers are victims of prostitution because prostitution endangers their physical, social, and psychological health; therefore, a movement/action that empowers the community in protecting the physical, social, and psychological health of sex workers is needed. This study tries to see the views of sex workers on reproductive health and the support of health facilities in their community. The research subjects were female sex workers who work within the scope of localization (complexes) in Bali. The research approach used was a community - based participatory research (CBPR) using the photovoice method as a media to answer the research questions. Participants were 11 sex workers and social workers in Gunung Lawu. The data were analyzed using a participatory analysis and coding system. The results show stigma and discrimination were still exsist. Reproductive health is important for sex workers, but they realize that the control of their health conditions is on the external side namely the customers, pimps, and the availability of health facilities in their environment. Unfortunately, health facilities are also still limited.

Abstract

Drug abuse in Indonesia is increasingly. Drug users not only adults, but adolescent and children. Many drug users who try to express the reasons as the cause of her fall on the drug early. Place of rehabilitation does not guarantee the student to complete recovery if they are not having their own intentions that he would work well. When he got out of rehabilitation, relapse risk can occur when students return along with fellow drug users. To solve problems and maintain health in a risk situation is the need for resilience. Resilience is the ability of individuals in overcoming life's challenges and maintain good health and energy so it can continue to live healthily. Students need emotional intelligence to develop resilience to survive in the face of challenges during the healing process so that they can return to normal life, and not experiencing relapse. The purpose this research is to know correlation emotional intelligence to resilience residents in House of Peace. This research was conducted on 16 resident in the House of Peace. The data collector used are two scales, that emotional intelligence scale (50 items, α = 0,946) and resilience scale (70 items, α = 0,964). Data analysis was performed using simple regression analysis. Results of data analysis showed positive correlation and significant between emotional intelligence to resilience ( = 0,801, p <0,05). The hypothesis of this research is received. The results showed that the effective contribution of emotional intelligence to resilience in this research equal to 64.1%.Keywords : resilience, emotional intelligence, residents House of PeacePermalink :
