Abstract

Sibling conflict has some influences on children’s development, positively and negatively. It is not only about the frequency, but also about the strategies used in managing conflict. The main purpose of this study was to adapt and to validate Sibling Conflict Strategy Scale developed by Recchia (2009), so it can be used by parents in Indonesia to identify their children’s strategies. The process of adaptation was guided by the International Testing Commission (ITC) Guidelines model for test adaptation, which include forward – backward translation processes, followed by expert reviews to test language and conceptual equivalence. Then, we conducted the validation process by testing the Content Validity Index (CVI) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Two hundred and six parents in Surabaya who have children in the age range of 52-87 months (M = 71.21) were participated in the pilot study. The result showed that each indicator, dimension, and construct met all the Goodness of Fit criteria (RMSEA < .08; CFI > .9). In addition, the value of Construct Reliability (CR) > .70 and Average Variance Extracted (AVE) > .50 were also obtained. Thus, the Sibling Conflict Strategy Scale can be used as a valid and reliable measurement to measure children’s sibling conflict strategies in Indonesia.

Cluster random sampling is used. Technique of data collection used the discipline scale (30 aitem valid α=0,915) and the scale of quality of school life (31 aitem valid α=0,925). Based on the analysis of simple regression showed rxy = 0.520 with p=0.000 (p<0.05). This results indicate that the proposed hypothesis, the existance of a relationship between quality of school life with student's discipline of moving class. Positive coefficient correlation value indicate more positive quality of school life, the higher discipline, and vice versa. Effective quality of school life contributes 27.1% on discipline and 72.9 % were influenced by others. Keywords: Student's Discipline, quality of school life, moving class

Abstract

Thalassemia is recognized as one of the major health problem in Indonesia. It is estimated that about 10% of Indonesian population are carrier of the mutated gene. Nevertheless Thalassemia is not well-understood by communities. This paper addresses how Javanese mothers view the role of God in Thalassemia. Semi-structured interview was employed to five mothers having a child with Thalassemia residing in Semarang, Central Java. Most mothers with Thalassemia children stated that Thalassemia was a result of bad consequence in the past, known as karma which they held at present. Having Thalassemia children would be perceived as ‘destiny’ and God’s trial to the family. All mothers agreed that acceptance (nrimo ing pandum) of the child’s condition without questioning to God was essential as a way to cope with. This result points to the cultural awareness that exits in community, to the need for health care providers to be sensitive to the health-related religious beliefs of patients and their families.Key words: Javanese mothers, Thalassemia, beliefs, nrimo ing pandum

The research samples were 60 students which were analysed by using multiple regression analysis. The result of first hypothesis showed that the perception of price was related positively and significantly to interest in buying products through online fashion shop on facebook as shown in rxy= 0,934, sig= 0,000 (α=0,05). The second hypothesis test showed that quality of products was not significant with interest in buying products through online fashion shop on facebook with rxy= 0,063 sig= 0,480 (α=0,05). Third hypothesis test also showed that the perception of price and quality of products simultaneously had positive and significat impact on the interest in buying products through online fashion shop on facebook rxy = 0,708, sig= 0,000 (α=0,05). Subjects were taken using proportional random sampling technique. Methods of data collection in this study are using two scales, namely the conformity scale and consumptive behavior scale. The results of regression analysis with simple analytical methods is rxy = 0,333 with p = 0.000 (p <0.05). The direction of the positive relationship between two variables means that the highly the student conformity, the consumptive behavior will be highly. The conformity provide an effective contribution of 10,9% on consumptive behavior
