Abstract

Language and culture are intertwined aspects that cannot be separated. Language is a manifestation of a developing culture. English is an universal language that is utilized in all countries as the language of communication. Learning it encourages students to speak and engage with people from all over the world, even if their cultural backgrounds are extremely different. Furthermore, the rapid development of the modernization era has decreased young people's enthusiasm for local wisdom. Given that local wisdom is the identity of a nation. Therefore, it is necessary to create an integrated English learning context with local wisdom in order to create a solid integrated learning in order to raise the profile of Pancasila students. The researcher wishes to conduct a literature review on the integration of local knowledge in English learning in order to raise the profile of Pancasila students. Learning English in integrated with local wisdom is one of the most authentic techniques of learning. In addition to employing teaching materials from the student's environment, this can raise the profile of Pancasila students in line with the Kurikulum Merdeka. This integration can assist teachers in becoming more creative in establishing teaching materials for English learners. It is expected that this step would shape and develop students' feelings of love and pride in the preservation of local wisdom in the nation.

Abstract

This conceptual paper presents a literature review of language landscape studies on the interaction of multilingualism, multiculturalism, and globalization in the reality of English learning education (ESL). Language has a great influence on human life through the forms of expression it conveys. Likewise in the social life of the wider community in general. In addition, language also plays an important role. In addition, the central government has rules and guidelines that affect local governments. The same applies to government language policies. Language policy is followed by language planning, which leads to social change. The areas of language policy include education, economics, politics, regional languages and literature, and law. All of that is inseparable from the language policies regulated by the governments of each country or region that use the language environment in the public sphere. Therefore, English cannot be used without another language, although it is subject to national and regional language policies. As a result, the use of English in public places requires the use of language equivalents in multilingual public forms, both in historical and cultural contexts, such as signage. However, because the unit of analysis in the linguistic landscape is the symbol, it provides the linguistic context of a particular region (roads, villages, buildings, countries, and environments), the linguistic landscape in this social conception, or the diversity of populations. English cannot be the only language used to represent signs. In the public sphere, taking into account the rise of bilingualism, the dominance of the national language, and a common language policy. However, the diversity of English is still growing. In short, English as used in this study of the linguistic landscape in the public sphere is a contradiction between language practice and language policy, and public understanding. Keywords: Language Policy, Linguistic Landscape, Era of Super Diversity, Foreign Languages (English).

Abstract

The study aims to be analyzed observed meaning in poetry written by English Department at of Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Mathla’ul Anwar University. It applied Halliday Systemic Functional Grammar to identify and analyze the occurrences of processes in the poetry. Gerrot and Wignell (2008:6) explain that the theory of grammar is needed to know the text working. By using the theory, the reader will understand the text clearly. One of the ways to convey meaning is by analyzing the transitivity pattern in the poetry. Transitivity is represented experiential meaning that are meaning about the world experience and what is going on in the clause. The authors applied descriptive analysis method, it was in order to elaborate the appearing process types of transitivity in poems and to describe the percentage of process types. After determining the type of process for each predicator, the percentages were counting and comparing one to another independently in each poem. Further, the choice of processes and patterns lead to the discussion on the purposes and effects. The examination on the transitivity analysis shows that the processes employed to meaning behind the poems using transitivity are material, mental, relational, verbal, and behavioral processes. The processes tell particular significant to the process of meaning. For instance, material processes frequently dominated the meaning of the poems. The other transitivity processes resemble the purpose and effect based on their meanings. Hopefully, this paper might serve an example of how to examine the language patterns in a literary work to further observe the purposes and the effects of the patterns.
