Abstract

This study aims to explore the motives, communication experiences, and meanings of alcoholic beverage consumption among Generation Z in Bekasi City. A qualitative approach with the phenomenological method was applied to understand the subjective experiences of informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five informants selected using the snowball sampling technique. The research findings indicate that the primary motive for alcoholic beverage consumption is rooted in the need for an escape mechanism from various life pressures, such as work stress, emotional conflicts (e.g., heartbreak), family conflicts, and social pressure for conformity. Post-consumption communication experiences are characterized by a paradoxical transformation in interaction quality: creating a more fluid and honest atmosphere, but also potentially triggering conflicts due to decreased self-regulation. The constructed meanings are multidimensional, encompassing instrumental aspects (means of relaxation and networking), identity (part of self-image and group identity), and existential dimensions ("life companion" and temporary escape). This study concludes that alcoholic beverage consumption among Generation Z in Bekasi is more than mere recreational behavior; it is a complex coping mechanism for navigating urban life challenges. These findings provide implications for the development of more contextual public health programs and communication interventions.. Abstract

This study aims to formulate a strategy for developing coffee gastronomy tourism at Javarover Coffee Company, Bekasi. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, where data is collected through interviews with internal Javarover Coffee Company staff, questionnaires distributed to 30 random visitors, and observational data before being further analyzed using the SWOT method and the TOWS matrix. The analysis shows that Javarover Coffee Company’s main strengths are its mastery of coffee processing and the integration of roastery facilities that guarantee the quality of the coffee product flavour. However, Javarover Coffee Company has a weakness in its limited seating capacity. Externally, specialty coffee trends and social media provide significant opportunities for Javarover Coffee Company’s expansion. However, seasonal fluctuations in coffee bean supply and employee-related risks pose separate threats. Through the TOWS matrix, four main strategies are formulated: (1) optimizing the roastery as an educational tourism attraction, (2) developing non-coffee menus and rearranging the layout, (3) utilizing coffee processing equipment to maintain flavor stability, and (4) tightening employee SOPs. These strategies are projected to increase the attractiveness, sustainability, and value of Javarover Coffee Company's gastronomy tourism. Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of TikTok content management by the Gerindra Party on the political information needs of Generation Z. The method used in this study was a quantitative approach with a survey involving 400 respondents from Generation Z. Data analysis was conducted using various techniques, including validity testing, reliability testing, simple linear regression, hypothesis testing (t-test), and coefficient of determination using IBM SPSS. The results indicate that the Gerindra Party's content management on TikTok has a positive and significant impact on meeting Generation Z's political information needs, with a significance value of 0.000, which is less than 0.05, and a calculated t-value of 26.470, exceeding the t-table value of 1.966. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.638 indicates that the Gerindra Party's TikTok content management contributed 63.8% to meeting Generation Z's political information needs, while the remaining 36.2% was influenced by other factors not included in this study. This finding suggests that managing relevant, engaging, and informative content through TikTok can serve as an effective political communication tool to meet Generation Z's political information needs. Abstract

This study aims to analyze audience reception of the child grooming experience narrative shared by Aurelie Moeremans through the Instagram channel Broken Strings Circle. Using Stuart Hall's encoding-decoding theory, this research seeks to understand how audiences interpret the narrative through three reading positions: dominant reading, negotiated reading, and oppositional reading. This study employs a qualitative approach with a constructivism paradigm and reception analysis method. Primary data consisting of audience comments on three posts from the Broken Strings Circle Instagram channel published in January 2026 were collected through non-participant observation and documentation. Results indicate that five audiences occupy the dominant reading position by accepting the narrative according to Aurelie Moeremans' constructed meaning, while seven audiences occupy the negotiated reading position by interpreting the message based on their personal experiences and contexts. No oppositional reading position was found in this study. These findings demonstrate that Broken Strings Circle channel audiences are active audiences with strong emotional connections to the child grooming issue, thus tending to show acceptance and negotiation of meaning rather than rejection of the narrative presented. Keywords: Audience Meaning-Making, Audience Reception, Child Grooming, Encoding-Decoding, Instagram Channel.

Abstract

This study conducts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to examine how border branding framed as border-as-asset and border-as-invisible shapes tourist destination choice in international border regions. Drawing on literature from cross-border place branding, destination marketing, and tourist decision-making, the review identifies two dominant framing logics. Border-as-asset positions the border as a source of uniqueness, symbolic value, and destination differentiation, whereas border-as-invisible reduces the salience of borders to construct a seamless and integrated tourism space. The synthesis shows that these framings influence destination choice, visit intention, and destination preference through several mediating mechanisms, including perceived attractiveness, regional identity, authenticity, safety, accessibility, trust, and electronic word-of-mouth. The review also demonstrates that the effectiveness of each framing is contingent upon territorial context, governance capacity, and tourism type. Border-as-asset is more effective in destinations that rely on heritage, geopolitics, or place distinctiveness, while border-as-invisible is more suitable for integrated cross-border destinations and mobility-oriented tourism. This SLR contributes to the literature by clarifying how border representation operates as a strategic branding resource and by proposing a conceptual foundation for future empirical reSearch on border tourism marketing and destination choice. Abstract

This study aims to determine the motives for use, communication experiences, and meanings of using the Instagram Map location-sharing feature among students at Singaperbangsa University, Karawang. The study employed a qualitative method with Alfred Schutz's social phenomenology approach. Nine students were purposively selected as informants, while data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results indicate that Instagram Map use is driven by motives such as interest in new features, Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), social influences, and previous experiences, as well as the goal of facilitating location sharing, communication, coordination, and shared activities. Users' communication experiences demonstrate the formation of social interaction and closeness, while also raising concerns about privacy and trust. The meaning of Instagram Map use for students is understood as a marker of self-presence, a reinforcement of social interaction and relationships, and a form of trust in location sharing. Abstract

This study aims to analyze ASEAN’s role in addressing marine debris through the implementation of the ASEAN Regional Action Plan among ASEAN member states during the 2021–2025 period. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach through library research. Data were collected from official ASEAN documents, international organization reports, scholarly articles, and other relevant publications concerning marine debris issues. The analysis utilizes Clive Archer’s theory of international organizations, which views international organizations as arenas and instruments of interstate cooperation. The findings reveal that ASEAN functions as an arena by facilitating regional coordination and cooperation in addressing marine plastic pollution and as an instrument through the ASEAN Regional Action Plan, which serves as a regional policy framework for member states. However, the study finds that most of the selected member states, namely Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, had already established national policies related to marine debris before the adoption of the ASEAN Regional Action Plan in 2021. Therefore, ASEAN’s primary role lies in coordinating, harmonizing, and strengthening existing national policies rather than initiating them. This study concludes that ASEAN plays a significant role in enhancing regional cooperation on marine debris management, although the effectiveness of implementation remains dependent on the capacity and commitment of individual member states. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Indonesia's economic hedging strategy in response to investment competition between the United States (US) and China in the ASEAN region during the 2020–2023 period, and to evaluate its impact on the country's bargaining position and economic resilience. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design based on a literature review. The analytical framework integrates hedging theory (Kuik, 2008; 2016) and the economic statecraft approach (Baldwin, 2020), alongside a comparative analysis of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) trends among Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam. The findings indicate that Indonesia has implemented three key economic hedging measures: deepening balanced investment engagement with both the US and China, strengthening domestic regulatory frameworks to mitigate dependency risks, and playing an active role in steering ASEAN's regional economic agenda. This strategy has successfully enhanced economic resilience and autonomy ("power of autonomy"), although its effectiveness in influencing regional dynamics ("power over others") remains lower than that of Singapore and Vietnam. In conclusion, economic hedging has proven effective as a mechanism for mitigating geopolitical risks while strengthening Indonesia's economic autonomy. However, to maximize its bargaining power and economic leadership in the region, Indonesia needs to improve bureaucratic efficiency, accelerate policy execution, and orient investment toward high-value-added sectors. Abstract

This study examines how China frames the discharge of Fukushima nuclear wastewater into the Pacific Ocean as an environmental security threat, utilizing the perspective of securitization. Employing a qualitative approach and a single-case study design, the research draws on various secondary data sources—such as academic literature, official documents, and credible media reports—to trace the construction of the threat narrative, the dynamics of contested meanings, efforts to institutionalize the discourse, and audience responses to the issue. The findings indicate that the discharge of Fukushima wastewater is no longer viewed merely as a technical matter of nuclear waste management. The issue evolved into a security concern after being constructed through narratives highlighting potential risks to marine ecosystems, public health, and food security. This construction of a threat was reinforced by statements from government officials, state-owned media coverage, and policies restricting imports of Japanese fishery products. These measures subsequently fostered strong political legitimacy within China. The study’s findings demonstrate that the concept of security in international relations is defined not only by the existence of objective threats but also by the social and political processes that shape how risks are understood and interpreted as security threats. Keywords: Audience Acceptance, Environmental Security, Institutionalization, Risk Construction, Securitization.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of criminal offenses resolved through Runggu in relation to the Indonesian Criminal Code (Law No. 1 of 2023), to examine the effectiveness of Runggu in resolving criminal cases, and to analyze the process of criminal dispute resolution through Runggu in Lau Garut Village, Mardingding District, Karo Regency. This research employs an empirical legal research method with a sociological juridical approach. Data were obtained through interviews with the village head, customary leaders, perpetrators, victims, and local community members, supported by literature review. The data were analyzed qualitatively using legal pluralism theory, living law theory, and restorative justice theory. The results of the study indicate that the existence of Runggu as a living law is still recognized and practiced by the Karo community in resolving certain criminal offenses, particularly minor offenses that do not cause widespread harm. Resolution through Runggu is still possible as long as it does not conflict with positive law provisions and does not involve serious criminal offenses under state jurisdiction. Runggu is considered effective because it is able to resolve conflicts quickly, simply, and at low cost, while prioritizing the restoration of social relationships between perpetrators and victims through the concept of dame adat (customary peace). The resolution process is carried out through deliberation involving the village head, customary leaders, families of both parties, and the Rakut Sitelu structure. The resulting decisions generally include restitution, compensation payments, customary apologies, and other customary sanctions aimed at restoring social balance in the community. Thus, Runggu plays an important role as a restorative justice-based mechanism for resolving criminal offenses that remains relevant and effective in maintaining order and harmony within the Karo indigenous community in Lau Garut Village. Keywords: Criminal Offenses, Karo Customary Law, Legal Pluralism, Living law, Restorative Justice, Runggu.
