Abstract

This paper discuss about segmental phonemes in Rejang Musi Dialect. The interviewees are four native speaker of Rejang Musi dialect in Rejanglebong region. Primary data was collected from the population by using interview techniques with listening method. The collected data transcripted used phonetic alphabet, analized by minimal pair, data grouping, and data cultivation to found alophone. To make vowels map and consonant map was done observation on shape of mouth and tongue position. This research report that 26 segmental phonemes exist in Rejang Musi Dialect. The 26 phonemes is consist of seven vowels, that is /i/, /u/, /e/, /Ɛ/, /Ə/, /o/, and /a/, and 19 consonant, that is p/, /b/, /t/,/d/, /k/, /g/, /ŋ/, /?/, /s/, /h/, /c/, /j/, /l/, /m/, /n/, /ň/, /w/, /r/, and /y/.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the discourse of women's beauty and marginalization of women's beauty in the novel The Curse of Beauty by Indah Hanaco. This study uses a qualitative data analysis research method. This study uses critical discourse analysis by Sarah Mills to examine the beauty discourse that SPG faces in the story of the novel. The results show SPG became a tool to attract buyers' interests. the owners of capital have made the female body an important tool in every social and economic process, to provide the erotic appeal of products through the imaging of mass media. It means, women's bodies have been disciplined through the concept of beauty by the mass media. Thus, the female body represented in the SPG story experiences marginalization of women's beauty. Thus, the female body represented in the SPG story experiences marginalization of women's beauty.

Abstract

This study examines the personal violence in the short story "Jakarta, Suatu Ketika" by Seno Gumira Ajidarma. This Short story "Jakarta, Suatu Ketika" is part of his anthology Iblis Tidak Pernah Mati published in 2001 by Galang Press. The purpose of this study is to describe the intrinsic elements in the story. The approach used in this study is a literature sociological approach. The method used in this research is the descriptive method. Through this method, the researcher explained the facts of violence occurred which related to the problem studied. The reserach findings show if there is personal violence that dominates in the short story "Jakarta, Suatu Ketika" personal violence is violence focussing on the actual physical realization  Penelitian ini mengkaji kekerasan personal dalam cerpen “Jakarta, Suatu Ketika” karya Seno Gumira Ajidarma. Cerpen “Jakarta, Suatu Ketika” merupakan bagian dari kumpulan cerpen Iblis Tidak pernah Mati karya Seno Gumira Ajidarma yang terbit tahun 2001 oleh Galang Press. Tujuan penelitian ini mendeskripsikan unsur-unsur intrinsik cerpen “Jakarta, Suatu Ketika”. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan sosiologi sastra. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif. Melalui metode ini, peneliti memaparkan fakta-fakta kekerasan yang berkaitan dengan permasalahan yang diteliti. Hasil penelitian menggambarkan apakah dalam cerpen “Jakarta, Suatu Ketika” terdapat kekerasan personal yang mendominasi, kekerasan personal yaitu kekerasan yang bertitik berat pada realisasi jasmani aktual

Abstract

This article aims at describing the using of metaphors and pragmatics patterns in Minangkabau language. The usage of such words with metaphors and pragmatics might be found in many every day living contexts. This research is a qualitatif research. The data collected during an intensive survey by using the listening method (metode simak) followed by tapping technique. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that a culture could influence the using of metaphors in line with the using of pragmatics. The native speakers of Minangkabau language have the ability to understand what they are spoken about even by using the metaphors. Exactly, there is no much doubts of when and where they turn to change the use of literal meanings to the metaphorical ones and vise versa in their every day language, as well as they understand the tw o kinds of meaning perfectly according to context in which the speech act taken place

Abstract

Classical Malay literature in prose is classified in the form of folklore. The plot of folklore describes phenomena and object that exist, by explaining aspects of composition and structure, or aspects of the processes and changes. In other words, in order to determine the origin of an object or objects in folklore,  the phenomenon of the object or objects must be recognized first.  It is known as  original motifs of folklore. Folklore based on structuralism approach sought to facilitate understanding in terms of language or text used. In a fairy tale actors and its properties can be changed, but actions and their role remains the same. Vladimir Propp divided 31 functions of folklore by linking the events and actions of different that have the same meaning, or imply the same conduct. Folklore of the Asal Usul Pulau Halang has sixteen Vladimir Propp's functions. The function in this folklore  was developed starting from the first function, the function of IX, the function of X, the function of XII, the function of XIV, the function of the XV, the function of XVI, the function of the XIX, the  function of XX, the function of XXI, the function XXIII, the function of XXIV, the function of XXV, the function of the XXIX, the functions of XXX, and the functions of XXXI.   Karya sastra Melayu klasik yang berbentuk prosa tergolong  pada bentuk cerita rakyat. Alur cerita rakyat menggambarkan fenomena dan objek-objek yang ada, dengan menjelaskan aspek komposisi dan struktur, atau aspek proses dan perubahannya. Dengan kata lain, untuk mengetahui asal-usul suatu benda atau objek dalam cerita rakyat, terlebih dahulu mengenal fenomena benda atau objek tersebut. Berkaitan dengan hal tersebut, maka dikenal cerita rakyat bermotif asal-usul. Cerita rakyat berdasarkan pendekatan strukturalisme diusahakan untuk mempermudah pemahaman dari segi kebahasaan atau teks yang digunakan. Dalam sebuah cerita dongeng para pelaku dan sifat-sifatnya dapat berubah, tetapi perbuatan dan peran mereka tetap sama. Vladimir Propp membagi 31 fungsi dengan mengaitkan berbagai peristiwa dan perbuatan berbeda-beda tetapi mempunyai arti yang sama, atau mengisyaratkan perbuatan yang sama. Cerita rakyat ―Asal-usul Pulau Halang‖ memiliki enam belas fungsi Vladimir Propp. Fungsi dalam cerita rakyat ―Asal-usul Pulau Halang‖ dibangun mulai dari fungsi I, fungsi IX, fungsi X, fungsi XII, fungsi XIV, fungsi XV, fungsi XVI, fungsi XIX, fungsi XX, fungsi XXI, fungsi XXIII, fungsi XXIV, fungsi XXV, fungsi XXIX, fungsi XXX, dan fungsi XXXI.

Abstract

This article discusses Indonesian—Poetry translation. The purpose of this article is to describe the strategies of translating poetry of Chairil Anwar by Raffel Raffel in “The Complete Prose and Poetry of Chairil Anwar”, a book written and edited by Raffel Raffel. In order to reach the purpose, the poetries of the source language are compared with the poetries of the target language in order to find out the strategy used in the translation. The method applied in this study is a qualitative descriptive analysis of the meaning. The data were analyzed by using some strategies of translation theory in general given by Newmark, Vinay and Dalberhet, Baker, and Hoed and the strategy of translating poetry by Lavefere. The result of the analysis shows that the general translation strategy used in the translation of Chairil Anwar Poetries are modulation translation, calque or literal translation, descriptive equivalence translation, generic words translation, additional translation and interpretation translation. Meanwhile the strategies of translating poetry used by Raffel are metrical translation, rhymed translation, blank verse translation, and interpretation translation. Penelitian ini membahas penerjemahan puisi bahasa Indonesia kedalam bahasa Inggris. Tujuannya adalah mendeskripsikan strategi penejemahan puisi-puisi Chairil Anwar oleh Raffel Raffel dalam bukunya yang berjudul The Complete Prose and Poetry of Chairil Anwar. Untuk mencapai tujuan penelitian ini, puisi-puisi Chairil Anwar dalam bahasa Indonesia dibandingkan dengan terjemahannya dalam bahasa Inggris. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan strategi penerjemahan secara umum yang dikemukakan oleh Newmark, Vinay dan Dalberhet, Baker, and Hoed dan strategi penerjemahan puisi oleh Andre Lavefere. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa strategi penejemahan umum yang digunakan dalam menerjemahkan puisi Chairil Anwar adalah strategi penerjemahan modulasi, calque atau penerjemahan literal, kesepadanan deskriptif, penerjemahan dengan kata generik atau kata yang lebih umum, penerjemahan dengan tambahan dan penerjemahan dengan pengurangan. Sedangkan strategi penerjemahan puisi yang digunakan oleh Raffel adalah penerjemahan metris, penerjemahan rima atau sajak, penerjemahan bait secara bebas, dan penerjemahan interpretasi.

Abstract

This research discusses about the meaning components of household appliances in bahasa Talang Mamak Dialek Langkah Lama (BTMDLL), based on semantic field theory. The aim of this study is to describe about the meaning components of the household appliance lexemes in BTMDLL and its semantic functions. A descriptive method was used in order to get the data from the field research by recording, interview and writing. The results show that the meaning components of the BTMDLL household appliance lexemes can be known from the special meaning of each lexeme. The meaning components of each household appliance lexeme of BTMDLL has its own semantic function.

Abstract

The topic of this research is the lexical variations in Riau Malay language family. This study aims to describe the calculation or determination of the percentage of linguistic variations contained in Riau Malay language family in the three isolects (Tualang, Kesumbo Ampai, and Pelalawan) and lexical variations contained in Riau Malay language family in the three isolects. The three isolects are in the neighboring districts of Siak, Bengkalis and Pelalawan.. This research uses dialectometry method with quantitative and qualitative approach. The quantitative approach observes the percentage of language variations, while the qualitative approach describes the lexicon variations. From the calculation of dialectometry, the vocabulary distance of the three isolects in Riau Malay language family indicates that (1) the interisolects of Tualang and Pelalawan are considered to be no difference; (2) the interisolects of Kesumbo Ampai and Pelalawan are considered to have different speech, and (3) the interisolects ofTualang and Kesumbo Ampai are considered to have different speech. Meanwhile, the variation of lexicons in Riau Malay language family in the three isolects of 200 glosses are 64 varied glosses.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji tentang representasi falsafah Jawa dalam cerita rakyat “Terjadinya Terowongan Air angge” di ecamatan Sukorejo, abupaten Ponorogo. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan representasi falsafah Jawa dalam cerita rakyat tersebut. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian berupa kata-kata dan kalimat, baik berupa narasi cerita maupun percakapan tokoh dalam cerita. Objek penelitian ini adalah cerita rakyat “Terjadinya Terowongan Air angge” di ecamatan Sukorejo, Kabupaten Ponorogo. Sumber data adalah cerita rakyat “Terjadinya Terowongan Air angge” yang telah dibukukan dalam Kumpulan Cerita Rakyat Kabupaten Ponorogo oleh Kasnadi dan Hurustyanti (2016). Teknik yang digunakan yakni baca, simak, dan catat. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah tim peneliti. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tiga representasi falsafah hidup Jawa, yaitu (a) tentang ketuhanan; (b) tentang sosial bermasyarakat dan kemanusiaan; dan (c) tentang alam sekitar.

Abstract

Koba Malin Deman (KMD) merupakan cerita rakyat yang disampaikan dengan cara dinyanyikan. Cerita KMD menceritakan perkawinan antara manusia dengan bidadari. Yang menarik dari Koba Malin Deman versi Melayu Riau ini adalah bersatunya antara manusia dan bidadari hingga akhir cerita. Metode penelitian yang dipergunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan pendekatan feminisme dengan teori feminisme eksistensialis. Metode deskriptif  dipergunakan untuk mendeskripsikanbentuk-bentuk ketertindasan perempuan terhadap hegemoni patriarkat di ranah domestik, sedangkan teori feminisme eksistensialis dipergunakan untuk menganalisis perjuangan perempuan menjadi subjek.Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa teks KMD memperlihatkan bias gender. Perempuan dalam cerita ini menjadi objek sekaligus subjek. Ketertindasan perempuan dikarenakan adanya pelabelan stereotip negatif dan perempuan sebagai objek penilain dan pengamatan laki-laki. Subjektivitas perempuan ditunjukkan dengan cara menjadi perempuan intelektual sehingga bisa membebaskan diri sendiri dan membebaskan diri dari lingkungan ideologi patriarki. Dalam pandangan kaum feminis, perjuangan perempuan untuk menjadi subjek belum bisa dikatakan sebagai subjek yang absolut. Posisinya dalam masyarakat hanyalah sebatas mendukung peran gender tradisional, yaitu istri mendukung kesuksesan suami.
