Abstract

Background: The radiographic method for determining the estimated age has the advantage of being non-invasive and the orthopantomogram images are digitally processed. Canines have a strong correlation with chronological age and have good resistance and large pulp space. This study aimed to determine the difference in age estimates using the Kvaal method on the right and left mandibular canines.Subjects and Method: There were 80 orthopantomogram samples from dental and oral clinic patients who had undergone orthopantomography at the Radiology Installation of Dr. Moewardi Hospital, from January 2019 to December 2020. The estimated age of right and left canines was calculated based on the Kvaal method and performed a T-test.Results: At the estimated age of the right and left mandibular canines determined by the Kvaal formula, the T-test was performed showing a mean of 38.3 years for the right mandibular canine (Mean= 38.3; SD= 6.7) and 38.2 year the left mandibular canine (Mean= 38.2; SD= 8.9), with p = 0.910. Data analysis showed that there was no difference in age estimation using the Kvaal method on the right and left mandibular canines. Conclusion: There was no difference in age estimates by the Kvaal method on the right and left mandibular canines. Keywords: Oratopantomogram, Metoday Qual, Kaninus MandibulaCorrespondence: Sulistyani Kusumaningrum. Abstract

Background: Osteochondroma is the most common primary bone tumor manifested as a painless, slow-growing mass. Apart from its asymptomatic manifestations, the tumor is malignant potential so appropriate management needs to be acknowledged. The aim of this study is to discuss the possible clinical findings for diagnosing with managing this rare case properly, which may provide a good outcome for this patient.Case Presentation: A 17-year-old male presented with a chief complaint of a slow-growing lump on the back of his right thigh. On physical examination, a 7 cm x 6 cm mass with mild tenderness was found during palpation. Based on these clinical and imaging findings, we informed and gained consent from the patient for surgery followed by a histopathology examination. The histopathology examination confirmed osteochondroma in the right distal femur. Results: Surgery was performed to curatively remove the tumor, followed by a histopathological examination which confirmed the diagnosis of osteochondroma. One week after the surgery, the post-surgical wound care was performed showing an excellent result, without any signs of infection or complications. Conclusion: Typical manifestation of painful osteochondromas may be associated with mechanical compression to the surrounding nerve and vascular structures. Surgical excision is an appropriate management approach to provide consistent relief of pain and deformity in osteochondroma case. Keywords: arteriovenous malformations, CT scan, rare case, embolizationCorrespondence: Komang Septian Sandiwidayat. Abstract

Background: There has been an increasing prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) caused by life style such as sedentary behavior and western diet. Metabolic syndrome causes degeneration in ren’s structure and processes the elimination of by product in metabolism, which is uric acid. Moringa oleifera Lam. leaves contain antioxidant that can repair damages caused by MS. Studies about improvement of ren’s structure and uric acid level related to Moringa oleifera Lam. leaves’ consumption has not been found yet. Therefore, this study was intended to examine the effects of ethanolic extract in Moringa oleifera Lam. leaves to uric acid and glomerular surface area in male wistar rat (Rattus norvegicus) with induced metabolic syndrome model.Method: This study is an experimental laboratory study. The subjects of this study consisted of 30 rats which were divided into 5 groups with 6 in each group. K1 is control group, K2 is MS group, and K3, K4, and K5 are MS groups given variety of ethanolic extract doses. The induction of MS was done by giving high-fat diet in 28 days and injection of streptozotocin-nicotinamide (STZ-NA) in the 25th day. Rats in group K3, K4, and K5 were given doses of 150, 250, and 350 mg/kgBW in 28 days. Results: The administration of high-fat diet for 28 days and injection of STZ-NA caused MS condition in rats.  Repeated ANOVA and One-Way Anova test showed that the administration of ethanolic extract in Moringa oleifera Lam. leaves with doses of 150, 250, and 350 mg/kgBW in 28 days decreased uric acid significantly (p= 0.001; p=0.001; p= 0.001). Another result also found that ethanolic extract from Moringa oleifera Lam. leaves with doses of 250 and 350 mg/kgBW increased area of glomerular surface area in rats significantly. Conclusion: The administration of ethanolic extract from Moringa oleifera Lam. leaves with doses of 150, 250, and 350 mg/kgBW for 28 days decreased uric acid level in rats. Ethanolic extract of Moringa oleifera Lam. leaves 250 and 350 mg/kgBw doses increase glomerular surface area. Keywords: Moringa Oleifera, uric acid, glomerular cross-sectional area, metabolic syndrome, kidneyCorrespondence: Muhammad Dzaki Darmawan. Abstract

Background:  COVID-19 is caused by a novel virus that can cause lung abnormalities which can be measured with new chest x-ray scoring system named Brixia score. In COVID-19 patients, coagulation disorders are often found that can be seen through D-Dimer levels. This study aimed to prove the Brixia Score as a predictor of D-Dimer levels.Subjects and Method: This study was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. The subjects were 94 COVID-19 patients which taken from ICU Melati 1 Dr. Moewardi General Hospital, Surakarta from March 2021 to August 2021 who met the exclusion and inclusion criteria. The independent variable is the Brixia score performed by radiologists and the dependent variable is D-Dimer levels taken from laboratory results. Sampling was obtained by purposive sampling and the data were investigated using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results: 94 samples were obtained for analysis. The average Brixia Score of patients with D-Dimer <2 µg/mL was Mean= 15.85; SD= 1.43 and D-Dimer ≥2 µg/mL was Mean= 17.29; SD= 0.96. There was a significant difference between the Brixia Score of patients with D-Dimer <2 µg/mL and D-Dimer ≥2 µg/mL (p<0.001). Analysis with the ROC curve shows an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.793. The optimal cutoff value of the Brixia Score for predicting D-Dimer levels was 16.5 (sensitivity 77.9%, specificity 73.1%).Conclusion: Brixia Score proved to be a predictor of D-Dimer levels of COVID-19 patients in ICU care. Keywords: COVID-19, ICU, brixia score, predictor, D-Dimer.Correspondence: Widiastuti Soewondo, Radiology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sebelas Maret.
