Abstract

This study analyses the implementation of good governance principles for the economic revitalization program under the supervision of Riau Province’s Badan Restorasi Gambut (Peatland Restoration Agency). One of the aims of this program is to support the haze-free ASEAN 2020 roadmap. Riau province is an area prone to forest fire disasters. Its peatland area, which is larger than Malaysia’s total peatlands, have a very high potential for damage due to forest fires. To mitigate the damages, BRG initiated the 3R program: Rewetting, Revegetation, and Revitalization. What makes this topic interesting is BRG emphasizes the aspects of economic empowerment of local communities to prevent further forest and peatland damages. To assess the implementation of BRG’s program, our research team conducted several interviews with representatives from Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry, NGOs, academics, farmers, and villages’ facilitators who assisted local communities that received the BRG’s assistance packages. Our study shows that BRG’s economic revitalization program had succeeded in creating small scale economic activities such as honey industry, pineapple farming, and catfish farming. However, the ineffective coordination and communication between BRG and the local communities had prevented them from constructing an effective method to prevent future forest fires.

Abstract

Tourism is one of the sustainable income sectors that is predicted as a post-mining sector. Thus, the area of tourism activities, especially beaches are minimized to be damaged, including juxtaposing it with mining. The research aims to elaborate on spatial contestation that occurred at Tanjung Putat Beach and Lepar Beach, Belinyu District, Bangka Regency. The theoretical basis used in this research is using the concept of spatial production from Henri Lefebvre which consists of 3 concepts related to the production of space, namely spatial practice, representational space, and spatial representation. The method of the research is qualitative with a descriptive method. In collecting the data, in-depth interviews were used with the informants who were closely related to the research being studied. The spatial contestation has indeed occurred in Tanjung Putat Beach and Lepar Beach, Belinyu District, Bangka Regency. However, the impact of mining activities has an impact on tourism in the vicinity, this is reinforced by protests against these mining activities.

Abstract

This study tries to observe and describe the meaning of women in the socio-political movement in the colonial era, which was described by the writer Pramoedya Ananta Toer in the book tetralogy of Buru Island (Bumi Manusia, Anak Semua Bangsa, Jejak Langkah, and Rumah Kaca). The analysis in this study observes the three female characters described in the book as representations of the meaning of women, described by Pramoedya Ananta Toer as struggle figures in initiating socio-political movements. The book, which describes the embryonic formation of the Indonesian nation during colonialism, has the style and analogy of an emancipatory struggle in a society that does not look at gender, as well as the absence of previous research that holistically discusses the four series of books in the context of women and the socio-political movement as a whole. This study uses a qualitative approach using a semiotic analysis model from Charles Sanders Peirce, which includes representation, object, and interpretant, which is then supported by compatible literature studies. The results of research on women from the natural side or in terms of their strength to fight colonialism with socio-political movements are arranged in a network of text symbols in the Tetralogi Pulau Buru novel series.

Abstract

This study examines what armed conflict is for children and how to resolve it. It aims to develop where it affects early childhood in various countries disclosing the adverse consequences of armed conflict on health outcomes for children under five. Especially those who are exposed to the conflict. Although recent evidence suggests a significant and long-lasting detrimental effect of armed conflict on children's health, there needs to be more assessment of the effectiveness of various social and economic development interventions aimed at reducing the impact of armed conflict on children's health. The research method applied in this research is a systematic literature review using 113 scientific articles sourced from the Scopus database. Review articles using the Vosviewer application. the results of this study yield on the challenges faced by conflict-affected countries. Social funds, one of the main instruments used to promote development at the local level, can be used to reduce the impact of armed conflict on children's health and the role of UNICEF in helping the mental healing of these children. For children living in displaced households, specific interventions should be designed to reduce the impact of armed conflict. The articles used are only sourced from database coverage, so research findings cannot be comprehensively described on the issue of child health due to the armed war in their country. Conflict is a significant stress and social determinant of children's health. In the statements within this data scope, much of the data review available knowledge about the impact of armed conflict on children and support the recommendations in the accompanying Policy Statement on children and armed conflict. Future research needs to use scientific articles sourced from other reputable international databases, such as the Web of Science and Dimensions Scholars.

Abstract

Privatization of education in Indonesia is legitimized by a number of regulations, for example Law no. 20 of 2003 on the National Education System and Law no. 9 on Education Legal Entities. The existence of this education legal entity makes educational institutions free to seek capital to invest in educational activities. So that the world of education turns into a commercial investment land. This condition, in the view of sociology, will lead to interclass conflicts caused by the inequality of the community in accessing education. This study aims to describe the views of conflict theory regarding the phenomenon of privatization of education. The method used is the study of literature or literature by collecting secondary data from books, news and journal articles. The results of the study show that 1) the conflict theory view of education privatization can be viewed from the community analysis unit and the individual analysis unit; 2) At the level of the community unit of analysis, education privatization can be explained through Karl Marx's conflict theory and Weber's theory of power. 3) Marx's conflict theory emphasizes the two social classes formed due to differences in ownership of capital production factors. Meanwhile, according to Weber, the process of conflict is caused by the existence of authority or power that separates society into superordinate groups and subordinate groups. 4) At the individual unit of analysis level, conflicts due to education privatization can be viewed from Coser's conflict theory, where conflicts do not only have a negative impact, but also a positive impact on society.

Abstract

Dubbing translation research is one of the translation studies in Audio Visual Translation (AVT) that has not been widely discussed, especially with dubbing which is carried out by fans. In this research, the researcher will examine the dubbing done by fans in translating short clips from western films, they are divided into two groups; fundubbing and fandubbing. The fundubing are Fathur Bysmi and Fluxcup, while fandubbing are Raihan Hakim98 and Ky Ameron. Fathur Bysmi dubbed movie clip from Spiderman movie, while Fluxcup dubbed one of Batman TV series entitled Batman the Batus. Raihan Hakim98 dubbed video clip from Resident Evil III game, while Ky Ameron dubbed a video clip from the movie entiled Frozen. Based on findings, it can be seen that the two Fundubbing dubbers are poor in translation quality, because they more focused on having fun and not on meaning. On the other hand the Fandubbing dubbers are better at both of dubbing and translation quality. Both of fundubbing and fandubbing are able to maintain synchronization between the voice and lips, as well as synchronization in gestures or kinetic.

Abstract

This paper analyzes and explores the use of language in public spaces using the field of linguistics landscape. The purpose is to indicate and analyze the linguistic landscape features of billboards, road signs, commercial shop signs, campaign posters, etc that found in Braga Street, Bandung City. Braga Street is one of the famous areas in Bandung because Braga has many unique buildings so that people, especially youngsters come to Braga even just to hang out. The data collected by the writer are virtual spaces using the Google Street View application. The writer explores the Braga Street area with that application and then takes screenshots of those signs. Qualitative descriptive conducted in this paper by applying Shohamy and Gorter’s theory which refers to the analysis of the characteristics of bilingual and multilingual signs to better understand the multi-ethnic and multi-cultural city. The result is the use of monolingual and bilingual signs dominates especially in the private sector. Sundanese is still maintained by the people as evidenced by the existence of signs that use the local language. English is a foreign language that is quite often used by sign makers in this Braga Street area. This is because English can attract visitors by giving an impression, especially in the economic sector as their marketing strategy. Although the multilingual aspect in the Braga area is still very minimal, it can still show that the use of language in public spaces (Braga Street) areas is already varied.
