Abstract

The elderly are a vulnerable age group prone to various degenerative diseases, one of which is hypertension. Uncontrolled hypertension can lead to a decline in the quality of life of the elderly, both physically, psychologically, socially, and environmentally. Family support plays an important role in maintaining the well-being of the elderly through emotional, instrumental, informational, and evaluative assistance. This study aims to determine the relationship between family support and the quality of life of elderly individuals with hypertension in the working area of Pembuang Hulu Public Health Center, Seruyan Regency, Central Kalimantan. This research employed a quantitative method with a descriptive-analytic approach and a cross-sectional design. A total sample of 30 elderly individuals with hypertension was selected using purposive sampling. The instruments used were a family support questionnaire and the WHOQOL-BREF to assess quality of life. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed that most respondents (60%) received low family support, and the majority had a moderate quality of life (63.3%). The Spearman correlation test indicated a very strong and significant relationship between family support and quality of life (r = 0.916; p = 0.000). The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between family support and the quality of life of elderly individuals with hypertension. Therefore, increasing the role of the family in elderly care is highly recommended, especially in providing continuous support to improve the quality of life in rural areas.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children under five worldwide, including in Indonesia. A significant risk factor is exposure to cigarette smoke from parents, which has been shown to increase the likelihood of ARI in young children. This study aims to examine the relationship between exposure to cigarette smoke and the incidence of ARI in children under five, as well as to explore the factors that contribute to parental smoking behavior. The type of research used in this article is a literature review, structured according to the PRISMA methodology. The article identification process was carried out through three databases from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and GARUDA. From a total of 1.235 articles identified, a selection and analysis process was conducted, resulting in 12 articles that met the eligibility criteria for further review. The literature review of these 12 articles indicates a clear association between exposure to cigarette smoke from parental and household smoking and the prevalence of ARI in children under five. Several contributing factors to parental smoking, including low levels of knowledge, smoking culture, high stress levels, socioeconomic conditions, and weak enforcement of tobacco regulations, have been identified as key drivers that indirectly increase the risk of (ARI) in children under five. There is a notable relationship between exposure to cigarette smoke and the incidence of ARI in children under five, which is influenced by parental smoking patterns.

Abstract

The Islamic Boarding School Health Post (Poskestren) is a form of community-based health effort (UKBM) implemented within Islamic boarding schools, based on the principle of being initiated by, from, and for the pesantren community. Poskestren plays a significant role in delivering promotive and preventive health services, without neglecting curative and rehabilitative aspects. Preliminary observations at Darul Huffazh Islamic Boarding School revealed that self-assessment surveys and community discussions—activities that should be conducted routinely—had only been held once, at the beginning of the Poskestren establishment. This gap has resulted in the absence of reports related to personal hygiene improvement, environmental health, and students’ health literacy, both at the pesantren and the local community health center (Puskesmas). Moreover, the number of health cadres—only nine for a total of 450 students—does not meet the proportional standard stated in the Poskestren implementation guidelines. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of the Poskestren program at Darul Huffazh Islamic Boarding School, Pesawaran Regency. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, involving seven informants, including pesantren administrators, Poskestren staff, health cadres, and students. The findings indicate that most input, process, and output indicators were adequately fulfilled, such as the availability of health cadres, facilities, policy support, and funding. The implementation process—covering planning, execution, and evaluation—was in place, although supervision from Puskesmas officers remained suboptimal. The program outcomes showed improvements in students’ health knowledge and clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS). In conclusion, the Poskestren program at Darul Huffazh has been implemented fairly well, although further efforts are needed to strengthen cross-sectoral guidance and improve health facilities.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis and can be fatal if not treated properly. This qualitative study with a phenomenological approach aims to determine the role of Drug Supervisors (PMO) in the success of TB treatment at the Sikumana Community Health Center in Kupang City. This study involved 16 informants selected using a purposive sampling technique. The results of the study indicate that PMOs play an important role in the success of TB treatment through several roles, namely the role of supervision by monitoring the medication schedule, ensuring the availability of drugs and supervising it is important, especially for children, the role of motivation by knowing and addressing the side effects of OAT, motivating patients to comply with taking medication, reaffirming the symptoms and impacts of not taking OAT, the role of reminders by helping and reminding patients to take OAT at the community health center and sputum examination to monitor the progress of treatment, by helping or accompanying PMOs to discuss with health workers and the role of education by providing education about TB, treatment methods, and prevention of transmission.

Abstract

Over-nutrition among Indonesian adolescents has increased significantly over the past decade. High consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and low physical activity are the primary contributing risk factors. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to changes in dietary patterns and lifestyle that may affect long-term health outcomes. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between UPF consumption and physical activity with over-nutrition status among students at SMAN 1 Jember. A cross-sectional design was employed involving 89 students from grades X and XI, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the SQ-FFQ and IPAQ. Nutritional status was determined based on BMI-for-age, following the standards of the Indonesian Ministry of Health. Statistical analysis was conducted using the chi-square test with a significance level of p<0.05. The results showed that the majority of respondents were not over-nutrition (76.4%), while 14.6% were classified as over-nutrition. A significant association was found between the frequency of UPF consumption and over-nutrition status (p=0.001). However, no significant association was observed between physical activity and over-nutrition status (p=0.797). These findings add evidence for further research on high UPF consumption on increased risk of over-nutrition in adolescents. In contrast, physical activity did not show a significant association, possibly due to the presence of other contributing factors.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a disease caused by the dengue virus, transmitted through the Aedes mosquito vector, which breeds in water containers that collect rainwater. The rainy season is the period when DHF cases occur most frequently. In Pesawaran Regency, the prevalence of DHF declined in 2023 compared to the previous year, with 149 cases reported in 2023, down from 432 cases in 2022. However, data from the Pesawaran District Health Office in 2024 indicated an increase to 252 DHF cases. This rising trend warrants serious attention to understand the contributing factors behind the increase in DHF cases in Pesawaran. This study aims to analyze the management of DHF control at the Roworejo Public Health Center in Pesawaran Regency. This is a qualitative study involving six informants, using in-depth interviews as the primary data collection method. The findings reveal that DHF control planning at the Roworejo Public Health Center has been systematically designed in accordance with existing guidelines, covering aspects such as budgeting, methods, facilities, and community participation. However, shortcomings remain in the provision of incentives for health cadres and the maintenance of facilities. The organizational structure operates based on a task-based and function-oriented (tupoksi) approach. All DHF control measures, including fogging, vector control (PSN), health education, and epidemiological investigations, have been implemented in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. Supervision of DHF control efforts is considered adequate from both management and field implementation perspectives.
