Jurnal Ilmu Peternakan dan Veteriner Tropis diterbitkan oleh Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Papua. Abstract

The purpose of this research to determine the level on the quality of pork jerky (aroma, texture and TPC). The research design used was a complete random design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications, and continued with Mann-Whitney test. The sensoric data used hedonik test according to Kruskal-Wallis method. The treatment consisted of R0 = without roselle flour, R1 = roselle flour 5g, R2 = roselle flour 10g and R3 = roselle flour 15g. The results showed that the addition of roselle flour 5g, 10g and 15g gave a significant difference (P <0.05) to the aroma and TPC values while the texture had no significant effect (P>0,05). But the best texture value is at the level of 10g roselle flour. Conclusion, The level of roselle flour influences the value of the aroma of jerky and can reduce the total bacterial growth in the pork jerky. The best activity level of 15g roselle flour can reduce the lowest total bacterial colony.

Abstract

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate minerals and nutrient composition of young coconut husk silage fermented with rice bran at different concentrations. The study was conducted for seven months in the Laboratory of Feed Technology of State Agricultural Polytechnic of Kupang. A completely randomised design was employed with four treatments and five replicates. The treatments were young coconut husk without rice bran (P0) or the husk plus 4% (P1), 8% (P2) or 12% (P3) of rice bran out of the silage total weight. Variables measured were dry matter, ash, crude protein, crude lipid, crude fibre, Calcium, Potassium and Phosphorus. Analysis of variance showed that rice bran significantly (P<0.01) affects all variables measured. The Duncan’s range multiple test showed that 12% and 4% were the best rice bran concentrations to increase nutrient content and minerals of the silage, respectively. It can be concluded that adding 12% of rice bran to young coconut husk silage increased dry matter, ash, crude protein and crude lipid but reduced Calcium and Potassium. Crude fibre and Phosphorus increased at the inclusion of 8% rice bran. Key words: Nutrient; Minerals; Rice bran; Silage; Young coconut husk. Abstrak Penelitian yang bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi komposisi nutrien dan mineral silase sabut kelapa muda pada berbagai level penambahan dedak padi, telah dilaksanakan selama 7 bulan di Laboratorium Teknologi Pakan Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Kupang, dengan menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan 4 perlakuan yang terdiri dari P0 : sabut kelapa muda tanpa dedak padi, P1 : sabut kelapa muda + 4% dedak padi, P2 : sabut kelapa muda + 8% dedak padi, P3 : sabut kelapa muda + 12% dedak padi dengan 5 kali ulangan. Variabel yang diukur adalah kadar bahan kering (BK), kadar abu, kadar protein kasar (PK), kadar lemak kasar (LK), kadar serat kasar (SK), kadar kalsium (Ca), kadar kalium, dan kadar fosfor. Analisis ragam menunjukkan bahwa level dedak padi yang berbeda berpengaruh sangat nyata (P<0,01) terhadap kadar BK, kadar abu, kadar PK, kadar LK, kadar SK, kadar Ca, kadar K, dan kadar P. Uji Duncan memperlihatkan level dedak 12% menghasilkan nutrien terbaik dan level 4% menghasilkan kadar mineral terbaik. Disimpulkan bahwa penambahan level dedak padi hingga 12% dapat meningkatkan kadar BK, kadar abu, kadar PK, dan kadar LK. tetapi menurunkan kadar Ca dan kadar K. Kadar SK dan P meningkat hingga penambahan level dedak padi 8%. Kata kunci : Dedak padi; Kadar nutrient; Kadar mineral; Silase; Sabut kelapa muda.

Abstract

Tamarind seeds have a high energy content but have limited use for pigs because the seed coat is tough and contains anti-nutrient tannins. Therefore, liquid feed fermentation technology is carried out. The aim of this research was to assess the gross energy, digestible energy, and metabolic energy content of liquid feed fermentation (Lff) with different fermentation times in growing pigs. The research materials were whole tamarind seeds, bran, corn, meat and bone meal, and soybean meal. The study used a completely randomized design and consisted of 5 treatments and 5 replications. Treatment = Lf0: Lff time 0 days; Lf1: Lff for 7 days, Lf2: Lff for 14 days, Lf3: Lff for 21days, Lf4: Lff for 28 days fermentation. The research variables were the energy content of the ration and the prediction of digestible energy and metabolic energy value. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and Duncan's advanced test. The results showed that the Lff with different fermentation time had a significant effect (P <0,05) on gross energy, digestible energy, and metabolic energy value. The best value of energy is Lff for 21 days. It was concluded that the time for fermentation of liquid feed made from tamarind seeds which can produce good energy content, digestibility, and metabolic energy is 21 days.

Abstract

Abstract Stomatitis is an inflammation that occurs in the oral mucosal tissue, characterized by ulcers. This case study aims to diagnose and treat stomatitis in a cat. A 7-month-old female domestic cat weighing 2.7 kg with lethargy, lost of appetite, decreased thirst, and was having sores for 2 days was examined. The cat was examined physically include anamnesis, an inspection of body condition and eating behavior, palpation of the skin, hair, and parts of the body that can be palpated, and auscultation of the thorax and abdomen. The blood sample that was examined includes the erythrocyte count, hemoglobin value, leukocytes count, and their differentials. Physical examination results showed hyperemic gingival, swollen submandibular and retropharyngeal lymphoglandula, and there were multiple ulcers on the lips and tongue. Hematological examination showed thrombocytopenia and monocytosis. The stomatitis was diagnosed to the cat with a good prognosis. Therapy was given for 5 consecutive days in the form of intramuscular injection of Amoxycillin 10 mg/kg BW twice daily, intramuscular injection of diphenhydramine HCl 1 mg/kg BW once daily, subcutaneous injection of 0.5 ml vitamin C once daily, oral administration of 0.5 ml multivitamin twice daily, and povidone-iodine for gargle twice a day applied lightly to the lesion area. Stomatitis in this case study was cured within 5 days by treating with amoxicillin, diphenhydramine HCl, vitamin C, multivitamins, and topical povidone-iodine. Keywords: Amoxicillin; Cat; Stomatitis; Vitamin C. Abstrak Stomatitis merupakan radang yang terjadi pada jaringan mukosa mulut yang ditandai adanya ulser. Studi kasus ini bertujuan melakukan diagnosis dan pengobatan stomatitis pada kucing. Studi kasus ini melaporkan seekor kucing domestik betina umur 7 bulan dengan berat badan 2,7 kg dengan keluhan lesu, tidak ada nafsu makan dan minum, serta menderita sariawan sejak 2 hari sebelum diperiksa. Kucing diperiksa secara fisik meliputi anamnesa, inspeksi terhadap kondisi tubuh dan perilaku makan, palpasi terhadap kulit, rambut, dan permukaan tubuh lainnya, serta auskultasi pada daerah thorax dan abdomen. Sampel darah kucing diperiksa terhadap jumlah eritrosit kadar hemoglobin, jumlah leukosit dan diferensialnya. Hasil pemeriksaan fisik menunjukkan limfoglandula submandibula dan retropharingeal bengkak, gingiva hiperemi serta adanya ulser multiple pada bibir dan lidah. Hasil pemeriksaan darah menunjukkan trombositopenia dan monositosis. Berdasarkan hasil pemeriksaan kucing didiagnosis stomatitis dengan prognosis fausta. Kucing diberi terapi selama 5 hari berupa amoxicilin dosis 10 mg/kg BB dua kali sehari secara intramuskuler, dyphenhidramin HCl 1 mg/kg BB satu kali sehari secara intramuskuler, vitamin C sebanyak 0,5 ml satu kali sehari secara subkutan, multivitamin sebanyak 0,5 ml dua kali sehari secara per oral, dan povidone iodine dua kali sehari dioleskan pada lesi stomatitis. Stomatitis pada kasus ini dapat disembuhkan dalam waktu 5 hari dengan pemberian amoxicilin, dipenhidramin HCl, vitamin C, multivitamin secara sistemik dan povidone iodine secara topikal. Abstract

Abstract The aims of this study were to examine the slaughter weight, the percentage of apparent carcasses and the conformation index of carcasses of local sheep fed indigofera sp. as a substitute for commercial concentrates with different levels. The research method was an experiment with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The experiment was in vivo in 18 sheep fed different level of indigofera sp, P0 treatment being a basal ration as a control consisting of concentrate (K) and elephant grass (RG) with a ratio of 80: 20%. P1 was 40% K: 40% indigofera: 20% RG, and P2 was 30% K: 50% indigofera: 20% RG. Each treament was repeated 6 times. Sheep were offered feed 4% of body weight on dry matter basis. slaughter weight data were analyzed using Ancova, SPSS program version 16 with initial body weight as covariate. Apparent carcass percentage data and carcass conformation index were analyzed with anava. The results of covariance analysis showed no significant difference (P > 0.05) amongst treatments. The average initial body weights of P0, P1 and P2 were 9.58 ± 1.68, 10.58 ± 3.09 and 9.28 ± 1.91 kg, respectively. after receiving treatment for 70 days the slaughter weights for P0, P1 and P2 were 15.57 ± 3.64, 13.58 ± 2.76, 12.58 ± 1.65 kg, respectively. The average consumption of dry matter for P0, P1 and P2 were 400.19 g / head / day, 401.20 g / head / day and 398.59 g / head / day, repectively. The average percentage of apparent carcasses for P0: 40.61 ± 2.43%; P1: 34.33 ± 0.63% and P2: 34.03 ± 4.61%. Average carcass conformation index for P0: 0.47 ± 0.04; P1: 0.43 ± 0.01 and P2: 0.43 ± 0.01. Indigofera sp had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on the percentage of apparent carcass and carcass conformation index. In Conclusion, indigofera sp. does not decrease local sheep productivity and can be used to replace concentrates as a source of protein. Abstrak Penelitian bertujuan mengkaji bobot potong, persentase karkas semu dan index konformasi karkas domba lokal yang diberi Indigofera sp. sebagai pengganti konsentrat komersial dengan level yang berbeda. Metode penelitian adalah eksperimental. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL). Penelitian berlangsung secara in vivo pada domba sebanyak 18 ekor, dengan perlakuan P0 adalah ransum basal sebagai kontrol yang terdiri dari konsentrat (K) dan rumput gajah (RG) dengan perbandingan 80%: 20%. P1 adalah 40% K: 40% indigofera: 20% RG, dan P2 adalah 30%K: 50% indigofera: 20%RG. Masing2 perlakuan diulang 6 kali. Pemberian pakan sebesar 4% bobot badan berdasarkan bahan kering. Data bobot potong dianalisis dengan Ancova, program SPSS versi 16 dengan bobot badan awal sebagai covariat. Data persentase karkas semu dan index konformasi karkas dianalisis dengan anava. Hasil analisis covariansi menunjukkan tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) antar perlakuan. Rataan bobot badan awal P0, P1 dan P2 masing-masing adalah 9,58±1,68, 10,58±3,09 dan 9,28±1,91 kg, setelah mendapatkan perlakuan selama 70 hari bobot potong untuk P0, P1 dan P2 berturut-turut 15,57±3,64, 13,58±2,76 dan 12,58±1,65 kg. Rataan konsumsi bahan kering P0, P1 dan P2 berturut-turut adalah: 400,19g/ek/hr, 401,20g/ek/hr dan 398,59g/ek/hr Rataan persentase karkas semu pada P0: 40,61±2,43%, P1: 34,33±0,63% dan P2: 34,03±4,61%. Rataan index konformasi karkas untuk P0: 0,47±0,04, P1: 0,43±0,01 dan P2: 0,43±0,01. Pemberian Indigofera sp tidak berpengaruh nyata (P>0,05) terhadap persentase karkas semu maupun index konformasi karkas. Kesimpulan Indigofera sp. tidak menurunkan produktivitas ternak domba lokal, dan dapat digunakan untuk menggantikan konsentrat sebagai bahan sumber protein. Abstract

Investment of parasitic worms of captive wildlife was an impact on their health condition. This study was conducted to determine the intensity of parasitic worm infection in wild animals kept by communities in Manokwari, West Papua. The Natif method was used, by centrifuge of 20 birds and 20 mammals (Kangaroo and Deer) faeces collected from the sites. Sampling was carried out from October to November 2016. The analysis of collected faecal samples showed that bird species were not indicated (negatively infected by worm). In mammals, Nematodes and cestodes were found. Identification of existing findings showed that 3 (three) types of worm eggs were found, namely Taenia sp in kangaroos (Macropodidae), Ascaris sp (berembrio), and stronyle sp in deer (Cervus timorensis). The highest parasites intensity was stronyle sp (10 worm eggs) and the lowest intensity was Ascaris sp (3 worm eggs) .The rate of infection and investment of parasitic worm eggs in wild animals in Manokwari was categorised relatively low.

Abstract

The heritability (h2) of a trait shows phenotypes variance of the trait caused by additive genetic variance. The h2 value is used to estimate the quantitative trait breeding value of livestock in order to improve these traits through selection. This study aims to estimate the h2 of egg production characteristics in Papua local chickens with different genotypes from the 24-bp InDel (Insertion-Deletion) locus in the prolactin gene promoter region (24-bp InDel/cPRLp locus). A total of 13 pairs of Papua local chickens consisting of 3 pairs of II genotypes (♂II x ♀II) and 11 female offspring, 5 pairs of ID genotypes (♂ID x ♂ID) and 19 female offspring, and 5 pairs of DD genotypes (DD x ♀DD) and 17 female offspring were used in this study. Observations were made on the characteristics of egg production in female offspring of each genotype group. The variance component for h2 estimation is obtained by the one-way analysis of variance method and the separation of the variance components for single pairs. The results showed that the h2 at first laying of eggs in all genotype groups was moderate (0.10 to 0.30); the h2 of the number of eggs produced from the time they first laid eggs until the age of 240 days in II and ID genotype groups was high (> 0.3), while in the DD genotype group was classified as moderate (0.10 to 0.30); and the h2 of egg weight in all genotype groups was moderate (0.10 to 0.30). The high h2 of a trait indicates that the trait is more dominated by additive genes and is more responsive to the selection treatment.

Abstract

Abstract Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) is one of the main causes of impaired productivity and reproduction of cows. Antigen capture Elisa (ACE) is one of the serological technique that is sensitive, reliable and used regularly for detecting persistent BVD infection individually which simpler than multiplex nested PCR. The aim of this study was to determine the agreement between ACE and multiplex nested PCR as a routine laboratory diagnostic technique to detect the presence of BVD infection. A total of 128 cow serum samples consisting of 63 positive and 65 negative samples based on ACE were used in this study. The samples were collected from active and passive surveillance in dairy and beef cattle conducted by Balai Besar Veteriner (BBVet) Wates. The serum samples were then tested molecularly using multiplex nested PCR against BVD. The result showed 48 out of 63 BVDV-1 positive samples were found positive BVD antigen whereas 57 of 65 BVDV-1 negative samples were negative using multiplex nested PCR, . The agreement value between the two different assays based on statistic analysis using Kappa method was 0.64 and classified a good one. The result concluded that the ACE BVD assay was equally suitable as routine diagnosis to determine BVD infected cattle in the farm. Antigen capture ELISA (ACE) merupakan salah satu teknik serologis yang sensitif, dapat diandalkan dan digunakan secara teratur untuk mendeteksi infeksi BVD persisten secara individual yang lebih sederhana daripada multiplex nested PCR. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kesesuaian antara uji ACE dan multiplex nested PCR sebagai teknik diagnostik laboratorium rutin untuk mendeteksi adanya infeksi BVD. Sebanyak 128 sampel serum sapi yang terdiri dari 63 sampel positif dan 65 negatif berdasarkan ACE BVDV Antigen Test Kit/Serum Plus (Idexx®) digunakan dalam kajian ini. Sampel serum sapi merupakan koleksi dari surveilans aktif dan pasif pada sapi perah dan potong yang dilakukan Balai Besar Veteriner (BBVet) Wates. Sampel serum kemudian diuji secara molekuler menggunakan multiplex nested PCR terhadap BVD. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dengan teknik multiplex nested PCR, 48 dari 63 sampel positif BVDV-1 ditemukan positif untuk antigen BVD sedangkan 57 dari 65 sampel negatif BVDV-1 negatif untuk antigen BVD. Analisis statitik berdasarkan perhitungan metoda Kappa menunjukkan nilai kesesuaian antara dua uji sebesar 0,64 dan tergolong bagus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kesimpulan bahwa uji ACE BVD sesuai sebagai diagnosis rutin untuk menentukan ternak yang terinfeksi BVD di peternakan. Abstract

Ayam kampung super merupakan salah satu ayam kampung yang ditingkatkan performannya dengan perkawinan silang. Akan tetapi, perkawinan silang tidak serta merta memperbaiki performan. Ada beberapa hal lain yang mempengaruhi performan yaitu lingkungan dan feed additive. Oleh karena itu, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh Temperature Humidity Index dan pemberian enkapsulasi fitobiotik minyak buah merah terhadap konsumsi air minum dan performans ayam kampung super. Materi yang digunakan adalah alat ekstraksi, alat dan bahan enkapsulasi, buah merah, kandang individu dan ayam kampung super serta pakan starter. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu Rancangan Acak Lengkap 5 perlakuan dan 4 ulangan dengan uji lanjut Duncan Multiple Range Test. Pemeliharaan dilakukan selama 56 hari dengan Temperature Humidity Index yaitu 24,44 - 35,21 oC. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penambahan enkapsulasi buah merah tidak berpengaruh terhadap konsumsi air minum (P>0,05), konsumsi pakan (P>0,05), feed conversion ratio (P>0,05) dan berpengaruh nyata terhadap pertambahan bobot badan (P<0,05). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa kondisi lingkungan dilokasi penelitian (Papua) relatif ekstrim dilihat dari selisih THI. Selain itu, berdasarkan uji lanjut bahwa penambahan enkapsulasi fitobiotik minyak buah merah terhadap penambahan bobot badan menghasilkan perlakuan terbaik pada penambahan 2,5% enkapsulasi minyak buah merah.
