Abstract

Sugar industry has an important role in the Indonesian economy because of its ability to absorp a lot of manpower.  AFTA (ASEAN Free Trade Area) provides transaction convenience both export and import between the member of ASEAN.  This study aims to analyze the competitiveness of Indonesian sugar export inside ASEAN area and to estimate the trend of Indonesian sugar export.  The competitiveness analysis uses RCA (Revealed Comparative Advantage) method while trend estimation uses Trend analysis.  The RCA analysis result shows that Indonesia has low competitiveness but shows progress in last 3 years.  While RCA analysis of Thailand and Myanmar shows declining trend.  The declining trend of Thailand’s RCA is caused by the development of sugar cane based ethanol industry.  While the declining trend of Myanmar’s RCA is caused by the decrease of sugarcane area and only temporary.  The trend analysis result shows that Indonesian sugar export is increasing.  The main export destination country for Indonesian sugar product is Vietnam.  Vietnam also shows increasing trend in sugar import.  So it will become an opportunity for Indonesia to increase its export value.

Abstract

Even though it has the potential to increase cassava production, the level of application or adoption of the double row cultivation technique by cassava farmers seems to be unsatisfactory. This study aims to evaluate the variables that influence cassava farmers' decisions to adopt double row cultivation techniques. This research was conducted in Muara Jaya Village and Sukadana Ilir Village, Sukadana District, East Lampung Regency from September to November 2022. The cassava farmers surveyed (systematically randomized) totaled 200 people, and the quantitative analysis used was heckprobit regression (which able to minimize selection bias and probability bias). The results showed that farmers' decisions to adopt double row cultivation techniques were directly and significantly influenced by barriers to selling to factories and non-factories, the number of family dependents, the farmer's side job, the type of commodity planted, input constraints, the activeness of farmer groups, and perceptions farmers to technology. Thus, it was concluded that the decision-making process of farmers adopting cultivation technology is quite complex, and is a combination of on-farm and off-farm considerations.

Abstract

Coffee is a mainstay of the plantation sector which has long been a driving force for the economy in Indonesia which has export value. The still not optimal production of coffee in Indonesia has a lot to do with productivity. Factors causing the low productivity of Indonesian coffee include lack of mastery of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Handling Practices (GHP), low-quality beans at the farm level, attacks by plant-disturbing organisms, old plants that are no longer productive and farmer institutions that are still weak. Seeing the conditions of the existing problems, the development of coffee businesses needs to be studied for the feasibility of the business. The method used in conducting a business feasibility financial analysis is Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Net B/C Ratio, Gross B/C Ratio, R/C Ratio , Return Of Investment (ROI), Payback Period and Profitability Index (PI). The method used is literature study by conducting a review of ten journals related to research. All journals use Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Payback Period calculations. Net B/C Ratio is used by eight journals. Profitability Index (PI) is used by two journals. The Gross B/C Ratio is used by the three journals. R/C Ratio and , Return of Investment (ROI) are only used by one journal. The results of this study are expected to be a reference in assessing the feasibility of the coffee business.

Abstract

An analysis of the food sufficiency of farming households in shifting and permanent farming systems in South Central Timor Regency, Tobu sub-district (Tobu Village and Tutem Village) and Fatumnasi sub-district (Fatumnasi Village and Kuanoel Village), villages directly bordering the Mutis nature reserve, was carried out in October - November 2018. The aim of this research is to analyze the adequacy of food availability in farming households through shifting cultivation systems and settled farming systems and to determine the diversity of plants in shifting cultivation systems and settled farming systems. This research was conducted using a survey method through direct observation in the field and interviews with people in shifting and permanent cultivation. Farming household data was taken from Fatumnasi sub-district (sedentary farming) and Tobu sub-district (moving farming) and carried out in a balanced manner (Proportionate Random Sampling). The results of diversity analysis in swidden and permanent farming households are categorized as moderate diversity (1 < H < 3), this is because there are few types of plants planted in the location.
