Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the physiological response of empty and lactating buffalo mothers in semi-intensive rearing system in Pemalang Regency, Central Java. This study is an observational study with t-Test analysis. The population in this study were all empty and lactating buffalo mothers in Surajaya Village, Pemalang Subdistrict, Pemalang Regency, Central Java. The sample was determined using purposive sampling. Instruments used in collecting data on buffalo physiology and environmental conditions using thermohygrometer, stopwatch and thermometer gun. Data analysis method used t-Test and Pearson correlation test to determine the difference between body temperature andrespiration rate of empty buffaloes and lactating buffaloes. The results showed that empty and lactating buffaloes had no differences or comparisons because both animals were in normal conditions, which means that the animals were in a comfort zone and able to adapt to their environmental conditions. However, based on the calculation of Temperature Humidity Index (THI) the cattle fall into the category of moderate heat stress. It is necessary to correct THI in accordance with the climatic conditions in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of slaughter age on the carcass characteristics of Muscovy ducks (Cairina moschata). The research at the Laboratory of Animal Science and Production Technology, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Halu Oleo University. A total of 20 male Muscovy ducks were randomly selected from a farm in Cialam Jaya Village, Konda Sub-district, South Konawe Regency. The study was designed using a completely randomized design with four treatments and five replications. The age treatments included ducks aged 6 months (P1), 12 months (P2), 18 months (P3), and 24 months (P4). Before slaughter, the ducks were fasted to minimize bias from digestive tract contents, and their live weights were measured. Halal slaughtering was conducted by severing the esophagus, trachea, jugular vein, and common carotid artery. After complete bloodletting, the ducks were scalded in hot water to facilitate feather removal. This was followed by evisceration and separation of the head, neck, and feet to obtain the carcass. The carcass was weighed and divided into parts: breast, thigh, back, and wing, which were then individually weighed. The observed variables included slaughter weight, carcass percentage, and percentages of carcass parts such as the breast, thigh, back, and wing. The results showed that age significantly affected carcass percentage and the percentage of carcass parts, including thighs, breasts, and wings, but had no significant effect on slaughter weight or the percentage of the back. It was concluded that as the age of the ducks increased, so did the carcass percentage and the percentages of carcass parts, particularly the breast and thigh.An abstract is a concise summary for readers to get a general understanding on the research conducted. Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of understanding the production performance of local sheep in Indonesia, particularly in Gucialit Village, Lumajang Regency, considering its significant role in meat production. This study aimed to examine the effect of age and sex on the production performance of local sheep, which includes body weight, chest girth, body length, and shoulder height. An observational method with a quantitative approach was employed. Local sheep were grouped based on sex (male and female) and age (<1 year, 1-1.5 years, and 1.5-2 years), followed by measurements of the aforementioned variables. Data were analyzed descriptively and statistically using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The results showed that age had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on all sheep production performance variables. As the age of the sheep increased, body weight, chest girth, body length, and shoulder height increased significantly. Sex differences also showed a significant effect on production performance. Male sheep had greater body weight, chest girth, body length, and shoulder height compared to female sheep within the same age group

Abstract

Sago flour contains high starch and low price so it can be used as a substitute in making meatballs. The large amount of carbohydrate content (starch) contained in sago flour as a filler makes starch ingredients high and cheap so that it can be used as a substitute in making meatballs. This study aims to determine the effect of the addition of sago flour with different concentrations on the Physical and organoleptic tests of free-range chicken meatballs. This research was carried out in the laboratory room of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Technology, Sumbawa University of Technology, West Nusa Tenggara. This research was carried out in June 2024. Data analysis used a Complete Random Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 adventures. The treatment given in making kampung chicken meatballs is the addition of different chewy ingredients. The results of the study showed that the Physical and organoleptic properties of free-range chicken meatballs with the addition of free-range chicken at different concentrations had an effect on the pH of P0 15% 6.14 ± 0.8a, Taste P0 3.40 ± 0.86a, Color P3 3.16 ± 1.37a. while in the variables of cooking succulents, the yield, aroma and texture did not differ significantly (P>5%).

Abstract

The experiment was conducted to determine the effectiveness of condensed tannin from sengon leafs extract in protection of Indigofera zollingeriana leafs meal protein (IZLMP). The experiment was conducted using a complete randomize design consisting of five treatments, four replications and two experimental units. The treatments was P0 : IZLMP +0% condensed tannin (CT), P1: IZLMP + 0.5% CT, P2: IZLMP + 1% CT, P3: IZLMP + 1.5% CT, P4: IZLMP + 2% CT. Parameters measured was N-ammonia, total protein, rumen undegradable protein (RUP) and ruminal pH. The experimental result showed that protection of IZLMP with CT decreased ammonia concentration, increasing total, RUP value, and without effect on ruminal pH. The experiment concluded that the use of CT from sengon leaf extract at a level of 2% was effectively used to protect the IZLMP from degradation by rumen microbes.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the relationship model between the performance of jawarandu goats with the level of corn tebon silage feeding and the length of maintenance. The material used was 20 Jawarandu goats consisting of 4 treatments. The treatments given were field grass + corn tebon silage + concentrate with treatment levels P0 = 70% field grass 30% concentrate; P1 = 50% field grass, 20% corn tebon silage, 30% concentrate; P2 = 20% field grass, 50% corn tebon silage, 30% concentrate; P3 = 70% corn tebon silage, 30% concentrate. The results of this study were the average feed consumption of 684.15-908.94 g/head/day, average daily body weight gain of 68.00 g/day; 71.34 g/day; 77.02 g/day; 79.15 g/day, average feed conversion of 10.08 ± 2.16; 10.52 ± 2.38; 10.84 ± 1.78; and 10.61 ± 1.72, average feed cost per gain of Rp 20. 161.75 /kg; Rp 26,302.25/kg; Rp 27,105.74/kg; Rp 26,519.50/kg. After analyzing various regression models, the multiple linear regression model is a good model for research because the relationship between treatment and length of maintenance with feed consumption shows the coefficient of determination (R2) which is close to 1. The research concluded that the best treatment level in the study was the P3 treatment level in the 5th month with a daily body weight gain of 86.67 g/e/day with a feed conversion value of 9.53. The regression model that can be used for estimation of ration consumption from the treatment of corn tebon silage and length of maintenance is Y = 349.437 + 3.193X2 + 111.427X2, The value of the coefficient of determination (R2) which is close to 1 is on the feed consumption variable with a value of 0.982 or 98.2% which means that the closer to the number 1, the better the results

Abstract

Merawang chicken is a dual–purpose type of chicken whose egg and meat production is relatively high. The use of fish meal in chicken feed plays a role in the formation of chicken meat, but the high price and availability of feed are obstacles in rearing. The use of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggots can be an alternative feed to replace fish meal because it has a protein content of around 60%. The aim of this research was to test the effect of giving maggot meal as a substitute for fish meal in the ration on the percentage of boneless meat in merawang chickens. This research was conduced at Papidoka Farm (Caringin, Bogor) from October 2023 to November 2023. The study used 60 merawang chickens on 9 weekold with an average body weight ranging from 721.8 ± 68.6 g/bird. The research design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications, and the test results were analyzed using IBM SPSS for ANOVA and Duncan's advanced test. The treatment given in the ration is P0 = 0% maggot meal + 10% fish meal, P1 = 2.5% maggot meal + 7.5% fish meal, P2 = 5% maggot meal + 5% fish meal, P3 = 7, 5% maggot meal + 2.5% fish meal, P4 = 10% maggot meal + 0% fish meal. The variables observed were the percentage of meat, the percentage of boneless meat, the percentage of bone, and the percentage of skin on the breast and thighs of the merawang chicken. The results of the analysis of variance showed that giving maggot meal as a substitute for fish meal at a level of 0 – 10% in the ration of merawang chickens had a significant effect (P<0.05) on breast percentage, boneless meat percentage, breastbone percentage, breast skin percentage, thigh percentage, thighless meat percentage, thighbone percentage, thigh skin percentage and meat bone ratio (MBR) of chicken breasts and thighs. The conclusion of this research is that giving maggot meal as a substitute for fish meal at a level of 5% maggot meal and 5% fish meal can increase the percentage of boneless breast and thigh meat.

Abstract

Buffaloes are potential livestock that are widely developed and cultivated by the community because of their role as meat producers and their role in the economy and culture in rural areas. Buffaloes as potential livestock need to be conserved for their genetic resources so that their existence and biodiversity can be maintained. The genetic quality of a livestock can be known through the measurement of body morphometrics of livestock that are in the growth period because their body performance is still dominantly influenced by parental factors and inherited genetics. This study aims to analyze the comparison of morphometric characters between male and female pre-weaning buffaloes and their conformity with SNI in semi-intensive rearing system in Surajaya Village. The research method was quantitative observation with the object being pre-weaning buffaloes with 12 males and 5 females determined through purposive sampling and then analyzed using t-test. The observed variables included chest circumference, height, body length, body weight, and body ratio. The results showed that all morphometric parameters were not significantly different (p>0.05) between male and female buffaloes and body measurements that met the SNI requirements for swamp buffaloes included chest circumference and body height of male buffaloes. Meanwhile, body measurements that do not meet the SNI for swamp buffaloes include the body length of male and female buffaloes, as well as the chest circumference, body length and body height of female buffaloes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the superovulation response in several breeds, namely Angus, Friesian Holstein (FH), and Ongole crossbreed (OC). A total of 152 cows were used in this study, namely 39 Angus cows, 62 Friesian Holstein cows, and 51 Ongole crossbreed cows. The parameters of this study were the number of CL, response rate, recovery rate, number of embryos collected (1, 2, 3, 4 (DG/UFO)), proportion of transferable embryos, proportion of DG, and proportion of UFO. The collected data were tested using the Kruskall-Wallis test, if there was a difference, it was continued using the Mann-Whitney test. The results of this study included the number of CL, recovery rate, total embryos collected, proportion of DG, and proportion of UFO of Angus, FH, and OC cows showed significantly different results (P <0.05), the response rate showed very significantly different results (P <0.01), but the proportion of transferable embryos was not significantly different (P > 0.05). This study concludes that CO cattle have the highest average of CL, response rate, recovery rate, and total embryos collected. Meanwhile, Angus cattle produce the lowest percentage of DG and UFO embryos

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to test the effect of BSF Maggot flour as a substitute for fishmeal in rations on the sensory quality of Merawang native chicken meat. The treatment given is feeding with the following composition: R0: 0% maggot flour + 10% fish meal in ration; R1 : 2.5% maggot flour + 7.5% fishmeal in ration; R2: 5% maggot flour + 5% fishmeal in ration; R3 : 7.5% maggot flour + 2.5% fishmeal in ration; R4 ; 10% maggot flour + 0% fish meal in the ration; The parameters tested are hedonic test and hedonic quality test including, aroma, softness, color, taste, and juiceness. The results of Kruskal Wallis analysis of each treatment showed that feeding by replacing fishmeal with maggot flour gave a significant difference (P<0.05) in the hedonic test on aroma, color, softness and taste but did not differ significantly (P>0.05) on juiceness. The hedonic quality test showed significantly different results in aroma, taste, tenderness and color but no significant difference in meat juiceness. The conclusion of this study is that the substitution of fishmeal with maggot flour from the level of 2.5 to 10% can increase the panelists' preference for Merawang chicken meat and can improve the sensory quality, especially in the aroma, color, tenderness and taste of Merawang chicken meat.
