Abstract

Abstract History and culture always been a part of a city. This community service activity intended to give a supervision about how to reflect history and local culture to a city corridor in the making of planning and design concept in Katingan, Kasongan City of Central Kalimantan. Participants were the government employee of Katingan’s public work and spatial planning services. The tools and materials used in the supervision are a mini portable projector, laptop, and software: Arc GIS 10.4, and Sketch Up. The outcomes of this training activity are the employees can identify, analyze and incorporating history and local culture of a city and produce it into planning and design concept for a city corridor. A draft of planning and design document of Tjilik Riwut Street as a case study was produced during the activity and can be used as references as one of a tool to control spatial planning activity.

Abstract

The development of preservation of the turtle ecotourism area at Tapak Paderi Beach by increasing the skill and innovative soft skills for out-of-school youth is the goal achieved in this community service. Through the Appreciative inquiry methods approach with the stages of team coordination, turtle counseling socialization and education, the introduction of basic welding techniques, making RUBAH and turtle aquascape. Overall results achieved are the implementation of socialization activities, training and guidance for school dropouts besides being realized in the implementation of basic techniques of small library welding (RUBAH), turtle aquascape making and encouraging youth to become tourist education guides for domestic and foreign tourists

Abstract

Speaking as means to communicate is still hard to master for many learners in non-native countries. This fact makes the teaching of speaking for English teachers become a challenging task too. That was the problem in English Transmigration Village, Mandastana, Barito Kuala Regency. Therefore, the lecturers from English Department, University of Muhammadiyah Banjarmasin conducted a training on communicative language learning techniques and teaching media, so the tutors can use it for their future classes. The training was in five sessions, full of practices. The tutors enjoyed the training and planned to use their knowledge based on their needs.

Abstract

To success “Gemarikan” program such government’s design needed creativity along process. One of creative process was shredded making. This way had good prospect to be developed nevertheless the circulation of capital oftentimes stuck due to not sold completely but left in the market due to consignation system ever. This community engagement aimed to increase Catfish shredded marketing to break capital and product circulation stuck dealing with ran well and sustainable business and also create new entrepreneur throughout Small and Middle Entrepreneurs in county. The method used extension and implementation possible marketing mix. The result defined that producer was helped by these strategies for distributing, marketing catfish shredded faster than before deal with combining between direct selling, reselling and using market place of social media. In addition, student begin to blaze the way to be entrepreneur.

Abstract

Introducing young learners to learn a foreign language need extra efforts. It is due to the unique characteristics of young learners which require the teacher to live up the classroom’s atmosphere to engage them during the lesson. The present article elaborates the interactive instructional strategies can be used by teachers for teaching them. Thirty-eight students in the “Sentosa” orphanage and five caregivers joined the workshop to experience the practice of interactive teaching. The interactive teaching worked out three games, including I See Something, Spelling Bee, and Board Race. Questionnaire was given after the workshop and observation was also conducted so the students’ responses toward the strategies can be recorded. The result indicated that most of the young learners love to learn through those games. The interaction among them were also intense so it fostered the process of acquiring the new vocabulary. The teachers also commented that this strategy was fun and interesting.

Abstract

Speaking is one of the four macro skills of English. It is also a productive skill that requires language learners to gain much exposure to use it. Accuracy and fluency are two elements to be used as parameters of speaking ability for foreign language learners. Apart from this, language learners still find it hard to express out their speaking ability in front of classroom as well as outside the class. Lack of self confidence, limited vocabulary acquisition, and English grammar have become obstacles for learners to develop their speaking ability. Through this hands-on workshop, we introduced three educational games, namely, hot seat, comic strip, and that’s an unusual view to students and teachers at panti Asuhan Sentosa Banjarmasin. These games are intended to make learning english more fun, to help students gain self confidence to use the language, and to boost cooperative work between students and teachers. The participants responded positively to the ideas and they would use those games as learning media.

Abstract

Learning English is indispensable from the use of games as one of the teaching media. Even, in traditional classes, where teachers are the center of information, games are sometimes introduced and played to make the classroom atmosphere more fun. Now, as the rapid growth of information technology. The forms and types of games have also evolved significantly. This is like two sides of the coin which has both positive and negative impacts on students’ learning motivation. However, this community service report just looks at the benefits of the game in the English classroom and its feasibility to be used as a catalyst to make students engaged in learning English grammar. This community service was conducted in SMAN 1 Amuntai as the host. Teachers of English from around Amuntai regency were invited to come and introduced to use Kahoot as a learning tool. They were taught how to design quizzes and exercises about grammar using this game application. The participants enjoyed it and would plan to use it as learning media for their English classes.

Abstract

Abstract Land use in forms of built environment and green space is an essential element in urban and regional planning. This community service activity designed as a supervision for the people of Semangat Dalam Village to define built environment and green space area in the whole village. Participants were community and local people of Semangat Dalam Village. The tools and materials used in the supervision are a camera, a mini portable projector, laptop, and software: MS Office. The outcomes of this activity are the community can identify the positive and negative aspects of their village through data collection, therefore it can be used as a baseline to draw strategies for the future. A set of village profile was produced at the end of the supervision.
