Abstract

Aims: This study was to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its associated factors among nurses in Banten. Methods: The cross-sectional design of this particular type of quantitative correlation study. A total of 102 respondents were comprised of samples selected using random sampling. Variabel aktivitas fisik diidentifikasi menggunakan APARQ (Adolescent Physical Activity Recall Questionnaire) dan Stres diidentifikasi menggunakan DASS 21. Metabolic indicators include hypertension, Obesity, cholesterol, and diabetes. Data analysis used logistic regression.   Result:  The prevalence of metabolic syndrome among nurses was 16.7%. Older age (p=0.006), smoking (p=0.008), and stress (p=0.000) were significantly associated with metabolic syndrome. While gender and exercise were not significantly associated with metabolic syndrome.  Conclusion: smoking and stress were the major modifiable risk factors of metabolic syndrome among nurses. Campaigns and prevention of healthy behavior are crucial even among healthcare professionals.

Abstract

Aims: This research aims to analyze the relationship between Family Support in Fulfilling Activities of Daily Living and the level of Personal Hygiene - Bathing in schizophrenia patients. Methods: The population in this research consists of 88 families with schizophrenia patients, with a sample size of 47 respondents. The sampling technique used is random sampling, employing the Spearman's rho statistical test. This research was conducted from December 2022 to July 2023 in the village of Astambul, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan Province, this research is an analytical research employing a cross-sectional design. Results: Based on the Spearman Rho test, the value of ρ is determined to be 0.005 (ρ ≥ 0.050). With a Spearman correlation value of 0.000, it indicates a positive correlation direction with a moderate strength. Conclusions: Emotional support and increased attention are crucial in supporting a more effective recovery process. The better the family support in fulfilling Activities of Daily Living (ADL) for schizophrenia patients, the higher the level of personal hygiene - bathing in schizophrenia patients in the Astambul village area, Banjar Regency.

Abstract

Aims: Patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis must limit fluids to prevent fluid overload, which worsens the condition of patients with chronic kidney disease. Restricting fluids results in reduced oral intake, which results in a dry mouth and rarely flowing water on the tongue. This condition can trigger a feeling of thirst. One way to manage thirst is to chew ice cubes. Objective: to determine the effect of chewing ice cubes on reducing thirst in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Method: This research is a type of quantitative research with Quasy Experiment research with a pretest and posttest approach with a sample size of 60 respondents, 30 respondents in the intervention group, and 30 respondents in the control group using purposive techniques sampling. And for data collection using the DTI (Dialysis) questionnaire Thirst Inventory). Results: The effect of giving the intervention of chewing ice cubes to patients undergoing hemodialysis obtained a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) for pre-post in the intervention group and a p-value of 0.317 (p > 0.05) for pre-post in the control group. It can be concluded that the posttest value of the intervention group and the posttest value of the control group obtained a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05). It can be concluded that there is a significant difference in group posttest scores between the intervention group and the control group. Conclusion: The results of the study show that the intervention of chewing ice cubes in patients with chronic kidney disease has an effect so that it can be used.

Abstract

Aims: The purpose of this research was to examine into the recent spike in curiosity regarding mindfulness-based therapy and their benefits on patients with brain tumors. Methods: The approach to searching was implemented by using certain keywords in an online database. This review's inclusion criteria were: (1) study of experimental design, (2) only brain tumor patients, and (3) Mindfulness-based therapy. The search was limited to English and Indonesian literature published between 2017 and 2023. To assess the quality of the included studies, the Critical Appraisal Skills Program (CASP) tool, which is available for intervention research, was employed. Results:  For this investigation, the original search method returned 581 documents. After a comprehensive study of these papers and application of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, four papers met the inclusion criteria. The programs lasted between 8 and 12 weeks. While mindfulness-based therapies revealed a good benefit for brain tumor patients, one study found a negative effect on family well-being. Conclusions: According to the journals reviewed, this study intends to evaluate the benefits of mindfulness training for improving the condition of brain tumor patients. The biological factors of the tumor or the participant's cognitive profile may influence improvement.

Abstract

Aims: Muscle strength and Range of Motion (ROM) are very important for ischemic stroke patients because they can prevent contractures, and increase the muscle strength of ischemic stroke patients. Range of motion (ROM) exercises in the upper extremities can increase muscle strength so that post-stroke patients can perform Activities of Daily Living independently. Objective: To know about the effect of the effectiveness of ROM with various methods to increase muscle strength and range of motion of joints. Method: Literature review to determine range of motion exercise on limb joint muscle strength in ischemic stroke patients with 5 articles with 4 data  search tools: PubMed, NCBI, Science Direct, and Proquest. The inclusion criteria were patients who had an ischemic stroke, randomized control trials, and the full text available in a literature review published in the last five years, i.e. 2018-2023, articles in English. Results: From the articles obtained, 556 articles were found  Research campresearch searched in accordance with creteria found 5 articles on the effect of range of motion exercise on muscle strength of the extremity joints in ischemic stroke patients.  Positive results were obtained from the benefits of muscle strength and ROM. Clinical evidence was obtained from five journals analyzed that there was an increase in strength and range of motion and there were differences in the results of the experimental group and the control group. Conclusion: The provision of ROM intervention techniques is proven to increase muscle strength and joint range of motion in ischemic stroke patients, so as to help patients in the process of maintaining muscle strength and joint range of motion. In the future, this activity can be done independently by patients at home.

Abstract

Aims: This research aimed to explore articles regarding physical exercise for children undergoing cancer treatment. Method: The research method used is scoping review. The process of doing a scoping review involves several steps, including developing research questions, establishing criteria for inclusion, a comprehensive search strategy, literature screening and selection, organizing data, and compiling, summarizing, and presenting the findings. The inclusion criteria encompassed full-text papers, namely randomized controlled trials or quasi-experimental research, published in English during the past decade (2014–2023). Pubmed, CINAHL, Scopus, and Proquest are used as search engines and database searches. Selected articles were extracted into charting data, analyzed with descriptive approaches, and the results reported. Results: The results found 14 articles, which were then categorized into three physical exercise programs, such as integrated physical exercise, technology-based physical exercise, and multimodal exercise. Outcomes obtained are cardiorespiratory fitness, motor performance, cancer-related fatigue, and quality of life. Conclusion: The side effects of cancer treatment in children may be mitigated through the implementation of physical exercise programs. This scoping review can be a consideration for optimizing pediatric nursing services by adding physical exercise interventions to the rehabilitation protocol as a supportive treatment for children who are currently undergoing cancer treatment.
