Two decades or more, in the global scheme, Islamic studies have been enforced to take broader paradigms from dogmatic-theology to popular-religious. Islamic studies is not merely discussing on sacred corpus only, but everyday life of Islam also. In academic space, this field has increasingly been an intersection -if not a contestation- across disciplines, such as political science, anthropology, sociology, history, economics, media, and cultural studies.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the participation of non-Muslims in Islamic financial institutions within the multicultural context of Singosari, Malang Regency. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and institutional document analysis. The findings reveal that non-Muslim participation is evident yet selective, with the highest interest directed toward universal products such as savings, microenterprise financing, and investment schemes emphasizing transparency and profit-sharing. Institutional factors, including regulation and human resource capacity, significantly influence the effectiveness of inclusion, as national policies have not been fully integrated at the local level. Market structure analysis indicates that hybrid business models incorporating fintech demonstrate greater outreach to non-Muslim communities compared to traditional models, although concerns over data security remain a critical barrier. Educational and communication strategies overly reliant on Islamic terminology were found to be less effective, whereas approaches emphasizing universal benefits, product visualization, and cross-faith testimonials proved more acceptable. Digital product innovations offering transparent contract explanations and profit-sharing simulations enhanced interest, yet digital literacy gaps persisted as obstacles. The stigma of exclusivity in Islamic finance continues to pose socio-psychological challenges, which can only be mitigated through multi-stakeholder involvement, including regulators, financial institutions, community leaders, and academics. This research underscores the importance of cross-religious financial inclusion strategies to strengthen social cohesion and support national financial inclusion agendas.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mechanism of leadership legitimacy in Indonesia’s direct regional head elections through the perspectives of constitutional democracy and the principle of shura in Islamic law. The critical issues underlying this research include the prevalence of money politics, weak accountability, and the limited application of deliberative values within the modern democratic system, all of which undermine the quality of leadership legitimacy at the regional level. The method employed is library research with a normative approach, utilizing primary legal sources such as Law No. 10 of 2016 on Regional Head Elections and the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as secondary sources on democracy and shura. The analysis is conducted through a comparative and conceptual approach, systematically examining the compatibility between the principles of constitutional democracy and the teachings of shura in Islam. The findings reveal that direct regional head elections represent a manifestation of people’s sovereignty as guaranteed by the constitution, yet remain vulnerable to abuse if not safeguarded by the principles of justice, transparency, and accountability. From the perspective of Islamic law, shura emphasizes deliberation in leadership selection, prioritizing public interest and social justice. Thus, constitutional democracy in the context of regional head elections can be viewed as compatible with the principle of shura insofar as it is implemented based on the values of justice, responsibility, and integrity. This research underscores the importance of integrating constitutional democracy and Islamic values to strengthen participatory and just local governance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of strategic resource management on the development of Islamic legal methodology in PKBM Ristek Nusantara Jaya. Using a quantitative approach, data was collected from 100 respondents through a Likert scale questionnaire instrument that had been tested for validity and reliability. The data analysis techniques used include Pearson correlation tests and simple linear regression. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between the effectiveness of resource management and innovation of Islamic legal methodology (r = 0.684; p < 0.01). These findings offer insights into how effective resource management can enhance pedagogical innovation in the teaching of Islamic legal principles in the context of non-formal education. The implementation of appropriate resource management strategies, such as strengthening educator competencies, utilizing technology, and adaptive program planning, has been proven to be able to create more dynamic and contextual learning. This research makes a real contribution to pedagogical innovation and curriculum development in Islamic education, as well as encourages the reform of the Islamic jurisprudence approach to be more relevant to the challenges of the modern era, khususnya di lingkungan lembaga pendidikan non-formal seperti PKBM.

Abstract

In Indonesia's increasingly digital religious landscape, online da'wah has become a key agent in influencing public reasoning and civic engagement. This research aims to provide digital da'wah with the potential to be a transformational force in shaping a more critical, open, and active Muslim society in democratic socio-political life. Using a quantitative approach, as many as 100 respondents were randomly selected to fill out a validated questionnaire. The results of statistical analysis showed a significant positive relationship between digital da'wah and the formation of critical and democratic thinking, with a correlation coefficient value of r = 0.602 (p < 0.01). Simple linear regression analysis showed that digital da'wah significantly predicted the formation of critical and democratic thinking, with a regression coefficient value of β = 0.547 and a significance of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). The R² value of 0.363 indicates that 36.3% of the variation in critical thinking and democratic attitudes can be explained by the digital da'wah variable. These findings confirm that digital da'wah not only plays a role as a medium for the dissemination of religious values, but also as a means of forming critical thinking awareness and involvement in the democratic process in Indonesian society.

Abstract

This study investigates the critical issue of Regulatory Ambiguity surrounding the iddah period, specifically examining the friction between the Indonesian Circular Letter No. P-005/DJ.III/HK.00.7/10/2021 and the persistent, widespread practice of unregistered (sirri) marriage in Pontianak City. This intersection creates a crucial challenge to the coherence of Islamic Family Law, amplifying wider theoretical debates on Legal Dualism and the effectiveness of state intervention in personal status matters, ultimately jeopardizing women's rights and the legal protection of children. The primary purpose is to systematically identify the systemic causes of this discrepancy and analyze its profound impact on legal certainty and the state's authoritative capacity regarding matrimonial enforcement. Employing a combined juridical-normative and empirical approach, the research utilized legal document analysis alongside in-depth, strategic interviews with 10 key informants, comprising both officials from the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) and citizens directly involved in sirri marriages, thus providing credible insights into the practical realities of legal pluralism. Findings reveal a profound administrative breakdown, exemplified by the critical statistic that 93% of KUA officials demonstrate a failure to distinguish accurately between iddah talak raj'i (revocable divorce) and iddah talak ba'in (irrevocable divorce). This lack of administrative competency directly translates into a systemic vulnerability, where legal loopholes are routinely exploited, leading to the disenfranchisement of wives and children in property and inheritance claims. This article contributes significantly to the discourse on Islamic Family Law Reform, providing an evidence-based framework for jurisprudential clarity that promotes judicial authority and ensures equitable enforcement of marital rights in the long term

Abstract

The rapid expansion of cryptocurrency as a digital financial instrument raises critical concerns about the validity of contracts and their alignment with Shari’ah principles, particularly regarding price volatility and the absence of comprehensive regulatory frameworks. While cryptocurrency transactions promise substantial returns, they also entail considerable risks due to speculative behavior and market instability. This study examines the validity of such contracts and the practice of cryptocurrency transactions in light of classical Qur’anic exegesis and contemporary Islamic economic thought. Employing a qualitative hermeneutic analysis of Lubab al-Tafsir min Ibn Katsir combined with thematic comparison to contemporary Islamic economic models, this research explores the contractual principles of honesty, justice, legal certainty, documentation, and mutual consent in regulating cryptocurrency practices. The novelty of this study lies in constructing a framework for Shari’ah-compliant digital contracts, integrating classical tafsir insights with the challenges of blockchain-based finance. The findings reveal that although blockchain technology enhances transparency and security, persistent challenges such as volatility and regulatory ambiguity require urgent Shari’ah-based governance. This study contributes to Islamic economic jurisprudence by offering a novel evaluative framework with practical implications for policymakers, regulators, and Islamic financial institutions, ensuring that innovation in financial technology remains ethically grounded and Shari’ah-compliant.

Abstract

This study explores how social and economic factors simultaneously influence the choice of halal-labeled food and beverages among Muslim Generation Z, with a particular focus on students of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra. Previous research has largely examined these factors in isolation, leaving limited attention to their simultaneous effects in shaping halal consumption. Employing a quantitative survey of 100 respondents analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), the study reveals that social factors, such as family and peer influence, serve as the strongest drivers of halal choices, while economic factors, including price and accessibility, function as moderating conditions. The findings contribute to the halal consumption literature by integrating social and economic dimensions within the context of Islamic higher education, thereby addressing a gap concerning young Muslim consumers. Practically, the study suggests that policymakers and halal certification bodies should enhance community-based halal literacy, while businesses may strengthen market engagement through price affordability strategies and the utilization of family and peer influence.
