Abstract

The Tunas Harapan Women Farmers Group, Limau Manis Village, Pauh District, Padang City is one of the farmer groups that has various problems such as drought, high amount of unused land and arid land. The main crop planted during the rainy season is lowland rice, but most of the land becomes idle land during the dry season. Another problem that is often faced during the implementation of cultivation is the problem of soil quality, the lack of organic matter in the soil can also be the cause of degradation which has an impact on decreasing the productivity of rice plants. In terms of fertilization, farmers in this location still use artificial fertilizers (chemical fertilizers), where the use of chemical fertilizers can also reduce the quality of agricultural food so that it is not safe for consumption. The purpose of this activity is to increase public knowledge that corncob waste and cocoa waste that are widely available in the surrounding environment can be used as compost material. The method used is the method of socialization, counseling and discussion as well as demonstrations in the form of the practice of making rhizocompost directly in the field with farmer groups and the surrounding community. The results of this activity obtained rhizocompost made from corn cobs waste and cocoa waste. The conclusion that can be drawn from this activity is the increasing understanding of the community, especially the Farmers Group (KWT Tunas Harapan) about the benefits of corncob waste and cocoa waste that can be used as the main ingredients for making compost.

Abstract

Soil fertility is a basic component to produce quality agricultural products so that farmers enjoy the results they have fought for continuously. Therefore, a tool was created to help the community in the process of agricultural processing, one of which is by producing a tool to detect soil fertility while farmers are cultivating it. The tool is made in a very simple way using a 100 watt light bulb, 1 inch pipe, T pipe, 2 plugs, 2 electrical wires containing one (red 1 meter black 2 meters), light fittings, glue, plaster/duct tape. Soil fertility check tool made as much as 2 pieces. The working principle of this tool uses the principle of ohm's law (Ω), where when a medium has a small resistance value, the electric voltage it transmits. If there are many of these cations in the soil, the soil can be said to be fertile. But on the contrary, if the light is dim or does not light up, then the conducting value in the soil is of little value, and the soil can be said to be infertile. The demonstration of this soil fertility checker was carried out directly to farmer groups in the hill rice fields, Solok city. The demonstration of making this tool is expected to provide information to farmer groups on how to make simple tools and check their soil without having to buy expensive soil pH measuring devices. The main points conveyed: the meaning of soil fertility and a demonstration of how to make a simple soil fertility check tool.

Abstract

The primary feed source for ruminants is forage, which must be available in sufficient quantities. However, sometimes in the long dry season in Ujung Gading, West Pasaman, this forage is challenging to find. One source of feed that has not been utilized is rice straw. Straw is part of the rice stem without roots. Giving rice straw directly to livestock has low digestibility and low nutritional value. The objectives of this activity are 1. to improve the knowledge and skills of farmers in processing rice straw as quality animal feed from agricultural waste and 2. to develop the ammonia technology of straw as feed for ruminants. This activity has been carried out in Nagari Ujung Gading, Lembah Melintang District, West Pasaman Regency. The targets of this activity are farmers and the community in Nagari Ujung Gading, West Pasaman. The method of implementing the activities are socialization, training, and evaluation. The result of the implementation of the exercise is that there is an improvement in farmers' understanding and skills in rice straw processing using straw ammoniation technology as animal feed. The processing of agricultural waste in the form of ammoniated rice straw aims to improve the knowledge and skills of farmers in processing rice straw as quality animal feed from agricultural waste. Using straw ammonia technology aims to improve feed quality and digestibility for ruminants. This ammonia technique is easy to do, inexpensive, and does not pollute the environment. From the activity results, it can be concluded that rice straw ammoniation technology using urea can increase the nutritional value of rice straw as animal feed. The ammoniated rice straw can increase the energy value of the feed and effectively remove the microorganism contamination found in the rice straw.

Abstract

Nagari Sungai Abang is one of the areas in Lubuk Alung District, one of the rice production centers in Padang Pariaman Regency. One farming group that intensively cultivates rice is the Farming Business group. The problem with the farmer groups is their ignorance of the benefits of straw as a source of organic matter in the soil. The composting process is long, so farmers always burn rice straw after harvest in preparation for planting the following season. If the burning of straw is carried out continuously, it is feared that nutrients will be deficient in the soil. This activity aims to empower Farming Business groups in Nagari Sungai Abang, Lubuk Alung District, to utilize Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) as a bio activator in making straw compost as organic fertilizer and an alternative to addressing the problem of straw waste in Nagari Sungai Abang, Lubuk Alung. This activity has been carried out in the Farming Group of Farmers in Sungai Abang Dalam Nagari Sungai Abang, Lubuk Alung District, Padang Pariaman Regency. The method used is outreach, counseling, and training to demonstrate making PGPR suspension and compost from straw. From the activities that have been carried out, ready-to-use PGPR is obtained as a bio activator reproduced in coconut water media and used as a bio activator to speed up the composting process. The conclusion of this activity is increasing farmers' understanding of the benefits of straw as a raw material for compost and the use of PGPR as a bioactivator in making straw compost.
