Abstract

The implementation of medical records in hospitals can support the improvement of service quality through a fast and accurate documentation, so that the information produced is more effective and efficient. At Airlangga University Hospital, one of indicators of service that hadn’t been achieved was incompleteness of filling and returning medical record that exceeded 2x24 hours after service. The aim of the study was to analyze the implementation of filling and returning medical record for inpatients at Airlangga University Hospital. The research design was qualitative, using in-depth interview techniques with 30 main informants from doctors and nurses and 5 triangulation informants from assembling monitoring and medical record distribution officers. The results of the study illustrated that the implementation of filling and returning medical record was still lacking. In the input component, the doctor's activity and the number of items in the medical record caused incomplete filling. There was no reward and punishment policy from the hospital. In the process component, the incomplete medical records were found and the return of medical record wasn’t timely. In the output component, the most unfilled medical record forms were 58% informed consent and 33% doctor's signature. It was recommended that the hospital hold workshop about medical records and make policies related to reward and punishment.

Abstract

Low levels of hemoglobin in erythrocytes have an impact on reducing the ability of erythrocytes to carry oxygen throughout body's tissues; thus, the body becomes deprived of oxygen which may cause anemia. Anemia can be identified by carrying out blood tests to determine blood hemoglobin levels from capillary blood samples and venous blood samples. This study was conducted to analyze differences in hemoglobin levels from two methods, namely the digital method from capillary blood samples and the cyanmethemoglobin method from venous blood samples of third trimester pregnant women in Serang City. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional research design. The locations were in three working area of Serang City Health Center, Banten and the sampling technique was purposive. The data were collected from March to May 2023 on 81 pregnant women. The results showed that the average hemoglobin level using the digital method was higher (13.2 g/dL) compared to the cyanmethemoglobin method (11.5 g/dL). In addition, the cyanmethemoglobin method reported more cases of anemia (34.6%) compared to the digital method (8.6%). Pregnant women were suggested to check hemoglobin using cyanmethemoglobin method which has been recommended by the International Committee for Standardization in Hematology.

Abstract

Hypertension impacts on coronary artery blockage, infarction, heart failure, stroke, anxiety, and depression and cause of death; thus, a proper treatment must be done. One of the treatments is EFT therapy. This study aimed to analyze the effects of emotional freedom technique (EFT) therapy twice a week with the basic recipe method on lowering blood pressure. The design used in this study was a true experimental approach with a pre-posttest and control design. The sample of 50 people with hypertension was obtained by the consecutive sampling technique. They were divided 25-25 into the intervention and the control group. The data analysis used t-test. The results showed that the average systolic pressure before giving EFT therapy was 147.60 mmHg and the average diastolic pressure was 88.60 mmHg. Meanwhile, the average systolic pressure after giving EFT therapy was 136.20 mmHg and the average diastolic pressure was 76.24 mmHg. The blood pressure of the intervention group after EFT therapy showed a significant difference both in the systolic pressure (p value 0.020) and in the diastolic pressure (p value< 0.001). The analysis results showed that the blood pressures were lowered significantly after EFT therapy was given twice a week. EFT therapy is very useful for hypertensive patients as an alternative treatment to control their blood pressure.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that can lead hyperglicemia condition. Hyperglicemia can cause macrovasculer, microvascular, and neurophaty diseases which lead to foot disease. To prevent it, patients need knowledge and practice of foot care. This study aimed to find factors that contribute to patient’s knowledge and foot condition. The data were collected by a questionnaire to assess patient’s knowledge and an observation checklist to assess patient’s foot condition. The bivariate analysis used Kendall Tau test and ordinal regression for multivariate. This study had 30 respondents with characteristic of pre-elderly age (56.7%), graduating from high school (76.7%), living with DM <1 year (53.3%), hyperglicemia (53.3%), low in knowledge (73.3%), and having a bad foot condition (73.3%). The results showed that respondents’ characteristics have no significant correlation to knowledge and foot condition. The analysis results of Kendall Tau test showed that hyperglicemia (τ=0.409; p=0.012) and patients’ knowledge (τ=0.480; p=0.015) significantly related to foot condition. Hyperglicemia and patients’ knowledge became predictor of foot condition with determinant coefision of 39.5%. Thus, if patients have a good knowledge and do not have hyperglicemia, they will achive a good foot condition. Therefore, education about foot care and how to stabilize blood sugar to the patients is necessary for further study.

Abstract

Baduanjin exercise has an influence on cardiovascular system and stress which often occurs in stroke risk group. However, the pandemic condition limited nurses to provide education to them. Thus, the audio-visual educational media of Baduanjin exercise was created as an alternative for providing remote education. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of audio-visual educational media on the knowledge of stroke warning signs in stroke risk group. This research used a quasi-experimental approach and a one group pre-posttest design involving 47 respondents. The stroke risk group was identified based on stroke risk factors, followed by pre-test measurements. The used instrument contained of 12 items of stroke symptoms. The paired t-test was used to measure differences in knowledge scores of stroke risk group. The respondents received a link to educational materials that can be accessed anywhere without the need for face-to-face contact. The pre and posttest scores were analyzed using paired t-test and showed that there was a significant difference in the mean of knowledge of the stroke risk group before and after getting Baduanjin exercise audio-visual educational media (p value<0.000). Audio-visual educational media had a significant influence on the knowledge scores of the stroke risk group. The method of providing virtual education can be an alternative for nurses during the pandemic so that nurses can still carry out their role as educators.

Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic impacted on family planning drop-outs and an increase in pregnancies. The use of intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) is 99.4% effective in controlling the population; however, public interest in IUDs is low. This low interest can be overcome by providing education using Klik KB application. This research aimed to determine the impact of health education through Klik KB on the interest of IUD acceptors during the pandemic. The research type was quasi-experimental with a one-group pretest posttest design. The research was conducted from December to March 2022 with the population of 311 people and the sample of 31 people. The sampling technique was purposive sampling with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data collection was carried out by distributing a questionnaire and providing an intervention. The data analysis used a frequency distribution table and Wilcoxon test. The research results showed that before providing health education using Klik KB, the majority of the respondents had moderate interest and after providing health education, the respondents’ interest became high. Providing health education using Klik KB application media has an influence on the acceptor’s interest on IUD at Pemalang District Health Center with a p value of 0.000. Midwives and National Population and Family Planning Board (Ina. BKKBN) are required to carry out more comprehensive outreach to the public using Klik KB application media.

Abstract

One of the main causes of patient safety problems is the non-optimal implementation of effective communication SOPs by nurses. Whereas, the room head as a first line manager has an important role in implementing effective communication through a transformational leadership style. This study aimed to analyze the influence of transformational leadership training for room heads on the implementation of effective communication by nurses. This research used a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest post-test design approach. The sample size in the study was 197 nurses who were selected by a non-probability sampling technique, namely convenience sampling. A questionnaire consisting of 20 questions was used to measure nurses' perceptions of transformational leadership style in implementing effective communication. The test used in this research used the Wilcoxon test. The Wilcoxon test results showed a significant difference in the implementation of effective communication before and after transformational leadership training (p value <0.001). There is an influence of transformational leadership training for room heads on the implementation of effective communication by nurses. Transformational leadership style can be applied to minimize errors in the implementation of effective communication SOP.
