Abstract

Pregnancy during adolescence is vulnerable to psychosocial problems, including prenatal distress, which can have adverse effects on the well-being of the mother and fetus in both the short and long term. This study aims to identify the prevalence of prenatal distress among adolescent pregnant women and its determinants. A descriptive-analytical study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 242 adolescent pregnant women in Serang City, selected using consecutive sampling. Instruments included a socio-demographic questionnaire, PTSD Symptom Scale (PSS), Multidimensional scale of perceived social support (MSPSS), London Measure of Unplanned Pregnancy Instrument (LMUP), Marital Adjustment Test (MAT), and Prenatal distress Questionnaire (PDQ). Data were analyzed multivariately using logistic regression. Most respondents (66.5%) experienced prenatal distress. Significant determinants included gravida status, social support, pregnancy planning, and marital satisfaction. Logistic regression showed low social support (OR=8.77), marital dissatisfaction (OR=5.40), unplanned pregnancy (OR=3.80), and primigravida (OR=2.61) as the four main predictors. Supports from various parties are needed to overcome prenatal distress in pregnant adolescents, so that mothers are better prepared for their pregnancies.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that can lead hyperglicemia condition. Hyperglicemia can cause macrovasculer, microvascular, and neurophaty diseases which lead to foot disease. To prevent it, patients need knowledge and practice of foot care. This study aimed to find factors that contribute to patient’s knowledge and foot condition. The data were collected by a questionnaire to assess patient’s knowledge and an observation checklist to assess patient’s foot condition. The bivariate analysis used Kendall Tau test and ordinal regression for multivariate. This study had 30 respondents with characteristic of pre-elderly age (56.7%), graduating from high school (76.7%), living with DM <1 year (53.3%), hyperglicemia (53.3%), low in knowledge (73.3%), and having a bad foot condition (73.3%). The results showed that respondents’ characteristics have no significant correlation to knowledge and foot condition. The analysis results of Kendall Tau test showed that hyperglicemia (τ=0.409; p=0.012) and patients’ knowledge (τ=0.480; p=0.015) significantly related to foot condition. Hyperglicemia and patients’ knowledge became predictor of foot condition with determinant coefision of 39.5%. Thus, if patients have a good knowledge and do not have hyperglicemia, they will achive a good foot condition. Therefore, education about foot care and how to stabilize blood sugar to the patients is necessary for further study.

Abstract

The surge in COVID-19 cases has a negative impact on the mental health of individuals, such as stress, depression, or fear, leading to a decline in immune response. The effects of this virus also affect the quality of life of heart failure patients. The aim of this research was to identify the barriers faced by heart failure patients in returning to hospital care during the COVID-19 pandemic and maintaining their quality of life. This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The research samples consisted of 53 heart failure patients selected through accidental sampling with the inclusion criteria of patients readmitted to the hospital. The majority of patients experienced mild barriers, especially in self-care management. Non-compliance with treatments remained a major challenge for patients. The data regarding various barriers faced by heart failure patients in maintaining their quality of life during the COVID-19 pandemic can serve as a foundation for developing intervention models to enhance the quality of life for readmitted patients during the pandemic.

Abstract

Baduanjin exercise has an influence on cardiovascular system and stress which often occurs in stroke risk group. However, the pandemic condition limited nurses to provide education to them. Thus, the audio-visual educational media of Baduanjin exercise was created as an alternative for providing remote education. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of audio-visual educational media on the knowledge of stroke warning signs in stroke risk group. This research used a quasi-experimental approach and a one group pre-posttest design involving 47 respondents. The stroke risk group was identified based on stroke risk factors, followed by pre-test measurements. The used instrument contained of 12 items of stroke symptoms. The paired t-test was used to measure differences in knowledge scores of stroke risk group. The respondents received a link to educational materials that can be accessed anywhere without the need for face-to-face contact. The pre and posttest scores were analyzed using paired t-test and showed that there was a significant difference in the mean of knowledge of the stroke risk group before and after getting Baduanjin exercise audio-visual educational media (p value<0.000). Audio-visual educational media had a significant influence on the knowledge scores of the stroke risk group. The method of providing virtual education can be an alternative for nurses during the pandemic so that nurses can still carry out their role as educators.

Abstract

The increasing number of patients and the threat of complications make hypertension need to be watched. Non-pharmacotherapeutic treatment of hypertension can implement wet cupping therapy. This study aimed to determine the effects of wet cupping on the pulse and blood pressure of hypertensive patients. This research used a quasi-experimental method with pretest and posttest control group design. The samples consisted of control and intervention group consisting of 40 respondents in each and were selected by consecutive sampling technique. Wet cupping intervention was carried out once by a nurse as an assistant. The instrument used standard operating procedures, cupping tools, a digital sphygmomanometer, and an observation sheet. The statistical test used paired t-test and Wilcoxon test. The difference test used independent t-test and Mann Whitney. The control group experienced an increase in pulse and diastolic (3.98 times/minute and 1.77 mmHg), while the systolic was decreased (5.9 mmHg). The intervention group experienced a decrease in pulse, systolic and diastolic (1.05 times/minute, 8.13 mmHg, and 3.75 mmHg). The bivariate test in control group on the pulse, systolic, and diastolic variable showed p value of 0.035, 0.773, and 0.106. The bivariate test in the intervention group on the pulse, systolic, and diastolic variable showed p value<0.001, <0.001, and 0.001. The difference test on the pulse, systolic, and diastolic variable obtained p value of 0,057, 0.003, and 0.079. Cupping therapy effectively reduces hypertensive patients' pulse and blood pressure so that it can be used as an inexpensive therapeutic option.
