Abstract

This article examines Islamic education as a social movement that contributes to ideological production, the formation of habitus, and the transformation of Muslim society in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative methodology, the study utilizes library research to review theoretical works and academic literature on social movements, hegemony, habitus, and the sociology of Islamic education. The findings indicate that Islamic education functions not only as an institution for transmitting religious knowledge but also as a cultural arena where religious values are produced, negotiated, legitimised, and internalised through curriculum, teacher and kiai authority, and everyday social practices. These processes shape a religious habitus that influences religious understanding, social identity, interactional patterns, and collective moral orientation. The theoretical synthesis presented in this article posits that Islamic education is a dynamic socio-cultural movement capable of both reproducing and transforming social structures. The article advocates for strengthening reflective, inclusive, and contextual Islamic education to address global change, the digitalisation of religious authority, and the plural realities of contemporary Muslim society. The implications of this study inform the development of the sociology of Islamic education and the formulation of moderate institutional policy.

Abstract

The growing global ecological crisis requires a multidisciplinary approach, including contributions from spiritual and religious dimensions. This study is important because it highlights the potential of world religions, through interfaith dialog and cooperation, in shaping environmental ethics and encouraging restorative action against natural destruction. This study aims to explore how an interfaith perspective can strengthen the contribution of religious communities in environmental restoration efforts, what forms interfaith collaboration can take in an ecological context, and how religious values from various traditions can converge to form an inclusive environmental ethic. Using qualitative methods based on literature study and discourse analysis, this research examines theological narratives and environmental praxis in religious documents, as well as interfaith initiatives that have been implemented in various local and global contexts. The main results show that there are universal values such as responsibility for creation, ecological justice, and simplicity of life that serve as common ground between religions in responding to the environmental crisis. In addition, faith-based collaborative practices are proven to strengthen the capacity of communities to manage and restore local ecosystems. The integration of religious perspectives in the environmental restoration movement not only enriches the ecological approach, but also broadens the base of public participation through a deep spiritual foundation.

Abstract

This article examines the transformation of Islam-state relations in Indonesia through a comparative analysis of two periods of government: Joko Widodo's second term (2019-2024) and the early presidency of Prabowo Subianto (2024-present). Drawing on qualitative library research and critical discourse analysis, this article proposes the conceptual framework of "State Islam" and "Oppositional Islam" to capture dynamics that exceed the conventional secular-religious dichotomy. The findings indicate that political Islam has undergone structural rearticulation rather than depoliticisation. Under Jokowi, the state developed a defensive-combinative strategy that combined legal instruments, the technocratisation of religion through halal certification, and moderate religious discourse to neutralise ideological opposition. Under Prabowo, this strategy has shifted towards proactive co-optation, incorporating key Islamic actors into the governing coalition through institutional access and patronage, thereby blurring the boundary between state and opposition. Theoretically, this study contributes by explaining how religious authority is managed and integrated into state structures. Empirically, it demonstrates that elite co-optation produces internal fragmentation within "State Islam" and leaves a residual, value-based opposition within civil society, with significant implications for democracy and identity politics in Indonesia's compromised democratic landscape.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the strategies used by the Islamic Spirituality Club (Rohis) in shaping the Islamic character of students at Sunggal 1 Public High School. This study uses descriptive qualitative research. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, with the main informants being the head of Rohis and two active administrators. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the Rohis da'wah strategy in shaping the Islamic character of students is planned and systematic through two forms of planning, namely short-term and long-term strategies. The short-term strategy began with an introduction to the organization through Ta'aruf Rohis activities as an effort to realize the characteristics of students as the target of da'wah. Furthermore, this strategy was realized through various religious and social activities, such as recitation (taklim), a program for students skilled in da'wah through kultum activities, and activities for students who care for the poor, which aimed to instill values of social care and empathy among students. Meanwhile, the long-term strategy is implemented through annual activities such as Islamic Holidays (PHBI), Hijab Day, and short Islamic boarding school programs, which serve as a means of strengthening Islamic values in the school environment. The strategies are supported by the role of supervisors, school policies, and adequate facilities; however, they are constrained by limited time, differences in students’ religious understanding, and the low interest of some students. This study concludes that the Rohis da’wah strategies at SMA Negeri 1 Sunggal are not merely oriented toward the implementation of religious activities but represent an integrated and contextual da’wah planning process aimed at sustainably developing students’ Islamic character.
