Abstract

The iddah period in Islam is the period lived by women after divorce or the death of their husband, which has a deep meaning both philosophically and spiritually. This research aims to examine the philosophical and spiritual meaning of the iddah period and its influence on the formation of the character of Muslim women. The study also identified that iddah plays a role in shaping the character of Muslim women by teaching patience, wisdom, and maturity in the face of life's trials. Psychologically, the iddah period helps women cope with the loss and trauma caused by divorce or death of a partner. In addition, the iddah period also provides time for women to adjust to society after changes in their social status. In the social context, iddah helps women to return to improving social relationships and live a more independent life. The results of this study show that the iddah period is not only a legal obligation, but also an important process in women's spiritual, emotional, and social self-development, as well as contributing to the formation of a stronger and more mature character.

Abstract

This study analyzes recurring collective delinquency among adolescent gangster groups aged 15–18 years in Bengkulu City, focusing on social dynamics and post-criminal activity adaptation. Employing Émile Durkheim's Mechanical Solidarity Theory, a descriptive qualitative method with in-depth interviews was applied to informants actively involved in 2024. Results indicate that adolescent involvement is driven by strong Mechanical Solidarity formation, where social cohesion, trust, and daily interactions serve as primary bonds, compensating for weak conventional social ties indicated by family emotional neglect and structural gaps in residential environments. This solidarity generates Delinquent Collective Consciousness, manifested through repressive law and driven by collective deindividuation. Crucially, 2025 findings reveal strategic adaptation: the group's decision to cease criminal activities, triggered by increased legal risks (formal social control), while maintaining solidarity through non-criminal activities. This confirms that for adolescents, preserving social bonds outweighs continuing criminal acts. The study concludes that Delinquent Mechanical Solidarity represents a functional response to affection deficits and limited community involvement in Bengkulu.

Abstract

Violence against women remains a significant concern that necessitates accessible, community-based service models. The One Stop Service and Learning (OSS & L) program, implemented by Cahaya Perempuan Women Crisis Center (WCC) Bengkulu, engages grassroots women cadres as primary agents in delivering integrated support to victims. This study examines the role of OSS & L cadres in enhancing services for women experiencing violence and identifies challenges encountered during program implementation. Employing a qualitative descriptive methodology, data were gathered through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation with WCC coordinators, OSS & L cadres, and health center stakeholders. The results indicate that cadres are instrumental in community outreach, case identification, initial support, and referral to health and support services, thereby improving access and empowering victims. Nevertheless, challenges persist, including limited cadre capacity, insufficient institutional acceptance, and enduring social stigma rooted in patriarchal norms. The study concludes that OSS & L cadres significantly strengthen victim services through a community-based empowerment approach; however, ongoing capacity building, inter-agency collaboration, and policy support are necessary to ensure program sustainability.

Abstract

The research problem addresses shifts in religious communication within the digital era, where scholars' identities are shaped not only by direct interaction but also by curated representations on social media platforms. This study examines how the Instagram account @officialdarsun constructs the identity of KH. Previous research by Ali Mustafa Yaqub focused on content, production, and audience. The central argument is that the construction of ulama identity posthumously is influenced by message selection, presentation strategies, and the negotiation of meaning between account managers and the public. The theoretical and conceptual framework is informed by Branston and Stafford's work in The Media Student's Book (2003: 265–279), which highlights the importance of analyzing content, production, audience, and academic perspectives in media research. The methodology adopts a constructivist paradigm and an interdisciplinary approach, integrating communication science, digital media studies, and da'wah-hadith. The research employs virtual ethnography, utilizing non-participatory observation, digital documentation, interviews, uploaded recordings, archive review, and literature review. Data analysis involves reduction, visual reading, narrative interpretation, and presentation of findings, with validity ensured through source triangulation. The findings indicate that directed curation, production strategies, and audience engagement are crucial in affirming Kiai Ali's scholarly authority in digital spaces and demonstrate how religious identity can persist through media construction. This research offers a significant contribution to the field of Islamic communication in the context of the rapidly evolving digital era.

Abstract

This study investigates spiritual transformation within the Mayang Twins tradition as practiced in the Central Java wedding ritual in Pisang Indah Village, Way Kanan, Lampung. The research aims to identify shifts in symbolic meaning and the underlying factors influencing these changes within the migrant community context. Employing a qualitative methodology grounded in religious anthropology, primary data were gathered through participatory observation, document analysis, and in-depth interviews with key informants. The analysis reveals a process of desacralization, whereby the Mayang Twins' role has shifted from a sacred medium of cosmic-spiritual communication to a decorative element valued primarily for its visual prestige. This transformation is attributed to internal factors, such as the stagnation in the intergenerational transmission of philosophical knowledge, and external factors, including the influence of rapid modernization and cultural adaptation strategies aligned with Islamic values. The study concludes that the tradition's spiritual essence has diminished, despite the preservation of its physical form. It is recommended that the Village Government and the local Cultural Office establish communal cultural spaces, such as annual festivals or digital pocket books on traditional philosophy, to revitalize cultural understanding among younger generations and sustain Javanese identity within the diaspora.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of the Gusdurian Community in Bandar Lampung as an agent for promoting humanitarian values and religious moderation within a multicultural society. The research is prompted by increasing challenges posed by intolerance, social exclusivism, and the diminishing observance of humanitarian values in contemporary social contexts. The study analyzes the mechanisms by which the Gusdurian Community internalizes and disseminates the values of humanity, tolerance, and religious moderation through social activities and interfaith dialogues in Bandar Lampung City. A qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collected via participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving community leaders, active members, and public participants in Gusdurian activities. Data analysis utilized the interactive model developed by Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings demonstrate that the Gusdurian Community of Bandar Lampung plays a significant role in advancing humanitarian values and religious moderation through interfaith dialogue, Gus Dur Thought Classes (Indonesian: Kelas Pemikiran Gus Dur/KPG), social initiatives, public discussions, and humanitarian programs. These activities foster religious tolerance, social solidarity, empathy, and harmonious interfaith relations within the city's multicultural society. However, the community faces both internal and external challenges in program implementation, including variations in members' backgrounds and personal commitments that affect participation, as well as limited financial resources that necessitate adjustments based on available funding.

Abstract

The Ngaruat Kampung tradition represents a form of local wisdom that strengthens ecological awareness among the residents of Kampung Ranjeng, Garut Regency. This tradition is performed to express gratitude to God, honor ancestors, and maintain harmony between humans and nature. The research explores the meanings, functions, and ecological values inherent in the Ngaruat Kampung tradition, as well as its contribution to environmental conservation. A qualitative approach utilizing ethnographic methods was employed. Data collection involved participant observation, in-depth interviews with traditional leaders and community members, and documentation. Qualitative data were organized and analyzed thematically using NVivo 15 to identify patterns, categories, and relationships among the findings. The results indicate that the Ngaruat Kampung tradition embodies ecological values through various ritual activities, such as respect for natural resources, environmental cleanliness, preservation of water sources, and reinforcement of social norms that promote environmental stewardship. Additionally, the tradition serves as a medium for transmitting environmental knowledge to younger generations through symbols, traditional advice, and collective community practices. The findings demonstrate that Ngaruat Kampung holds cultural and spiritual significance and plays a crucial role in fostering ecological awareness within the community. Preserving this tradition is therefore an effective strategy for supporting sustainable development based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of holistic therapy grounded in Islamic spirituality by the Terapis Muslim community in Simpang Selayang, Medan, and examines the meaning and functions of Islamic spirituality within therapeutic practices as a response to the needs of modern society. A qualitative approach is employed from the perspective of the sociology of religion. Data collection methods include observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the community founder, therapists, therapy trainees, and patients. The findings indicate that holistic therapy is implemented through the integration of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions using various therapeutic modalities, such as hijama (cupping therapy), mental therapy, ruqyah (Islamic spiritual healing), and back reflexology (sipung). Islamic spirituality is conceptualized as an awareness of the relationship between human beings and Allah, expressed through the values of ikhlas (sincerity), sabr (patience), shukr (gratitude), and tawakkul (reliance upon Allah). Within therapeutic practice, spirituality functions as a source of meaning in life, a coping mechanism for addressing the pressures of modern life, and a means of promoting behavioral and social transformation. Drawing upon the perspectives of Symbolic Interactionism and the Theory of Religiosity, the findings demonstrate that holistic therapy grounded in Islamic spirituality serves not only as a healing intervention but also as a process of meaning-making and the strengthening of religiosity in contemporary society.

Abstract

Kitab kuning (the Yellow Book) constitutes a central element of Islamic boarding school (pesantren) intellectualism in Indonesia. The religious understanding cultivated within these institutions is primarily derived from this classical literature. The kitab kuning’s heterogeneous content, combined with ongoing scholarly dialogue and debate among traditional scholars, ensures a dynamic and non-monolithic interpretation of Islam. In promoting moderate religious understanding (wasathiyyah), the kitab kuning functions as the primary form of cultural capital within pesantren. This study examines how pesantren fulfill the role of cultural reproduction, particularly regarding the transmission of moderate Islamic values, through the teaching of the kitab kuning. Employing a qualitative methodology, the research integrates a comprehensive literature review with empirical field data collected at the Nurul Taqwa Islamic Boarding School in Bondowoso, East Java. Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu's concept of cultural reproduction, the findings indicate that the pedagogical tradition of the kitab kuning serves as a significant resource for reinforcing and transmitting values of moderation to students (santri). This reproduction process is facilitated not only by traditional teaching methods, such as bandongan and sorogan, but is also fundamentally supported by the authoritative scholarly capacity and habitus of the teaching figures (kyai and asatidz). Their demonstrated expertise in classical texts plays a crucial role in shaping a tolerant and inclusive religious perspective.
