Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of teachers in developing students’ noble character at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Nahdlatul Ulama (MINU) Pilangsari, Beji. The formation of noble character (akhlaq al-karimah) in children is a fundamental objective of education and constitutes one of the primary responsibilities of teachers, particularly within Islamic-based educational institutions. In the context of contemporary challenges such as moral degradation and the weakening of ethical values among students, the role of teachers becomes increasingly strategic and essential. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. These methods are used to capture a comprehensive understanding of teachers’ practices, strategies, and experiences in fostering students’ character development. The findings indicate that schools, through the active involvement of teachers, play a crucial role in shaping students’ noble character. Teachers function not only as transmitters of academic knowledge but also as moral role models, mentors, and guides in practicing Islamic values in daily life.Various approaches are implemented by teachers, including the integration of religious and moral values into classroom instruction, habituation through exemplary behavior, and the reinforcement of character education via religious routines and ethical activities within the school environment. Through these efforts, teachers contribute significantly to cultivating students who possess strong moral integrity, discipline, and social responsibility in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Abstract

This research examines the philosophical foundations underlying the development of an Islamic Education Curriculum based on the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework. The study is motivated by the need to harmonize global educational standards with Islamic epistemological and axiological principles in order to produce learners who are both intellectually competent and spiritually grounded. The objectives of this research are twofold: (1) to analyze the philosophical foundations that inform the development of the IB-based Islamic Education Curriculum, and (2) to identify the typological model that characterizes its development. This research employs a qualitative approach through a comprehensive literature review, involving critical analysis of philosophical theories of education as well as contemporary models of Islamic Education Curriculum development. Various sources, including academic journals, books, and policy documents, are examined to construct a coherent philosophical framework. The findings reveal that the philosophical foundation of the IB-based Islamic Education Curriculum is predominantly rooted in essentialism, emphasizing the transmission of core knowledge, values, and moral principles derived from Islamic teachings. At the same time, the curriculum reflects a dynamic engagement with modern educational paradigms. Furthermore, the typology of its development can be categorized as a synthesis of modernist and perennial essentialist approaches. This synthesis is conceptualized as a “Perennial-Essential Contextual Falsification” model, which integrates enduring Islamic values with contextual adaptability and critical inquiry. Such a model enables the curriculum to remain relevant in a global context while maintaining its theological and philosophical integrity.

Abstract

Digital transformation in education has become essential in the Merdeka Belajar era, including Islamic Religious Education (PAI). The Merdeka Mengajar Platform (PMM) serves as digital innovation supporting teacher professional development and facilitating interactive, meaningful learning. However, implementation remains suboptimal, particularly in schools with limited resources and digital competence. Objectives: 1) examine PMM optimization implementation in PAI learning at SMPN 1 Lekok Pasuruan; 2) identify supporting and inhibiting factors in optimization. Method: Qualitative case study with PAI teachers as subjects and informants including school principal, curriculum vice principal, non-PAI teachers, students, and student affairs vice principal. Data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Validity ensured through source and method triangulation; descriptive analysis employed. Results: 1) PMM optimization conducted through four strategic stages: initial condition analysis, platform utilization planning, implementation with training and mentoring, and periodic evaluation through teacher reflection and discussion. PAI teachers actively access PMM features including inspirational videos, teaching modules, and diagnostic assessments. 2) Supporting factors: teacher adaptability, strong leadership support, and basic digital facilities. Inhibiting factors: limited devices, unstable internet connectivity, and need for improved teacher ICT competence

Abstract

Tafsir Al-Qur'an is a reflection of life experienced by its interpreters. and this paper will analyze Kiai Maimun Zubair's response to contemporary issues related to social, political, and religious issues in Indonesia through a study of the book Tafsir Safīnatu Kallā Saya'lamūn.  which was delivered by Kiai Maimun Zubair in Javanese, then translated into Arabic by his student, Lora Ismail Al-Ascholy. Kiai Maimun Zubair is a charismatic Ulama who is widely known by the Indonesian people and even the world not only as an active figure in the pesantren environment, but also has extensive experience in the Indonesian political realm. Therefore, his thoughts and views in understanding the Qur'an are important. The research methods used in this study are descriptive, historical, and explanatory methods, with the application of critical discourse analysis belonging to Teun A. Van Dijk. The results of this study show that KH. Maimoen Zubair not only uses the interpretation of the Qur'an as a means to understand God's words in the Qur'an, but also as a means to express his views and responses to social, political and religious problems in Indonesia. such as agricultural issues, democracy, the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, the spread of Islam in Java, and the security of the Indonesian State received attention from him.  The Safīnatu Kallā Saya'lamūn tafsir not only describes the social, political and religious situation in Indonesia, but also provides solutions and significant contributions in discussing these conformer problems. His attitude reflects the paradigm of thinking of Islamic boarding school scholars who are firm in their attitude and strengthen their beliefs, so that they make the Banayak Islamic boarding school play an active role in the process of building a more advanced and prosperous Indonesia.

Abstract

This study addresses the limited historical-analytical discussion of KH. Hasyim Asy’ari’s educational thought within the broader development of Islamic education in Indonesia, particularly in relation to the tradition and transformation of pesantren. The research aims to analyze KH. Hasyim Asy’ari’s educational ideas by situating them in the historical context of Islamic education and examining their contribution to the continuity and change of pesantren institutions. Employing a qualitative method with a historical approach and library research design, the study draws on primary sources, notably Adab al-‘Ālim wa al-Muta‘allim, as well as relevant secondary literature on Islamic education and pesantren history. The findings reveal that KH. Hasyim Asy’ari’s educational thought emphasizes adab, ethical teacher–student relations, and the integration of religious knowledge as the core of Islamic education. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that the transformation of pesantren—covering curriculum development, learning methods, and institutional management—represents a form of continuity rather than a rupture from tradition. KH. Hasyim Asy’ari’s ideas provide a conceptual foundation that enables pesantren to remain rooted in Islamic tradition while adapting to socio-historical changes. This research contributes to Islamic education studies by bridging the gap between classical ulama thought and the historical dynamics of pesantren transformation.
